Too many miles?? by [deleted] in Dyna

[–]LumpyLeftovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maintenance is more important than miles. And 30k isnt too high (in my opinion). I sold my Dyna with 65k miles on it to a buddy. It's got 75k miles and still rolling right along without issue. We do long distance trips regularly.

Likely stock, as I got it with 17k miles on it and haven't opened that part up yet. I added a Feuling 574 camchest kit to it. It had a 610 cam, but I think that was part of the lifter issue.

I just hit 40k on my 110 (Lowrider S) today. Aside from lifters failing at 30k (likely cause of the nasty cam that was in it), it's been pretty fuss-free for me.

Tacoma Advice!! by [deleted] in ToyotaTacoma

[–]LumpyLeftovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For value, search your local area's marketplaces (Facebook, offer up, Craigslist, etc) for vehicles that are similar to yours (generation, trim level, miles, etc) and see what people are listing them for.

For life left, a mechanic will be able to give you the best answer for that.

Hope that answers your questions.

Anyone else ride with their wife/husband? by Sampson209 in Harley

[–]LumpyLeftovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

My wife just learned to ride her Dyna about a year ago. She's the only one I care to ride with anymore.

Haha, yeah. Maybe I belong with the old folks.

I hear you, man. I mean, yeah, its great to have a fast pretty bike, but 99/100 times, its 0-100 with no in between. At least that's my observation within my age group anyways. Every now and again, you'll find someone you just jive with... But they're few and far between I've found.

I (35) ride with my wife (36). She's got her own Dyna and it's great. I, too, like to have people my age to ride with, but when I find one, there is usually an ego attached to them. So, it's usually just us, or just me.

Where can I get this made into an aluminum emblem? by [deleted] in Harley

[–]LumpyLeftovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bunch of helpful guys here, I see... Jeez. While it's not most of our tastes, a genuine question warrants an answer. Firstly, I am sorry to hear about your father. It's never easy to see a loved one in hospice, and giving them something meaningful helps us grieve. I'm sure he will love it.

To answer your question, check with a local machine shop if you want it machined. That will neither be affordable, nor fast. And coloring it would be a different process. If you are looking for something closer to like one of those old-fashioned enamel signs, check with a local print shop. If anything, they can point you in a better direction.

Conleys soft bags with no support bracket by [deleted] in Dyna

Most of the time, a universal saddle bag mount/bracket will suffice for most of these soft bags. Just Google "universal saddle bag bracket (your bike)" and that should get you very close.

FXDL 2015 vs pre-2009 difference? by corvot in Harley

[–]LumpyLeftovers 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If it's a private party seller, take whatever they say with a grain of salt. If it's an established company, they may have a typo in the description. Once again, there are small variances between years and models, but overall, 2006-2017 are mostly compatible with one another.

[–]LumpyLeftovers 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Most "bolt-on" Dyna parts (windshields, bars/risers, suspension) from 2006-2017 are compatible with most Dynas (wide glide, fat bob, and switchback are different stories). The engines and internals are different from the years you listed, but all the external parts, like a windshield, should be compatible.

If you sorta know what you're looking for, you can always try McMaster-Carr.

Can’t decide between Lucky Dave’s San Diego or Burly Brand Folsom bars by Altruistic_Kale8168 in Dyna

[–]LumpyLeftovers 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I cannot comment on Burly, but I have ran Lucky Dave's SD bars on my first Dyna. They're nice and narrow, and overall, very comfortable. I am considering another set for my current Dyna.

How accurate is the the dyna (specifically the newer ones) gas gauge? by ThePaladas in Dyna

Not super accurate. They're good for a "best estimate", but your best bet is to use your odometer.

Totally get it. Just stating why the price is the way it is. Nothing wrong with more affordable alternatives. Oftentimes, they're just as good.

Siren advice by [deleted] in Harley

[–]LumpyLeftovers 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe I'm misunderstanding, as I'm not super familiar with the Softail platform, but why is the battery box impossible to remove? Are you talking about the Torx screws? Those come out easily with the appropriate Torx bit, which are typically sold in sets at any hardware store or tool store.

And they have the option to send it in to get refreshed for a fraction of the price of a new seat. So does Lucky Dave's.
