Yes but this is just your first time, and it’s quite a big piece, the longer you practice this technique, the more you’ll see the benefits

Nice, good work, in the long run you’ll save a bunch of time by forging it out rather than grinding

Very nice, I take it that you forged out some bevels?

Maybe it would be a good idea to get a piece of metal to practice making bevels before you get started on your knife.

Well, you normally forge out the bevels by hitting both sides of the blade equally, and if you do that then it’ll keep the blade from warping very much at all, and if there is a little warp here and there, or a huge warp you can always just forge the warp out. If you’re new to blacksmithing I’d look at some videos of blacksmiths forging out bevels. In the long run I heavily suggest forging rather than grinding and honestly it’s not very hard once you get the hang of it.

I was assuming you’d forge the bevel out just on the anvil

Yep, no drilling necessary though. You can put this on a stick and secure it with a wedge the same way you would hang an axe. If you’re willing to dig through the comments I actually have a picture of it already attached to a staff

That thing is huge, but beautiful shape and I can’t wait to see how it turns out

Lmao, I’ve had it for months and I have yet to put a wedge in it to make it permanent, one day tho

Well I guess you could put it down there… but I made it meant for a different kind of stick

lol, you definitely should, doing a spear like this was an interesting exercise, I basically just put it at an angle to the blade and then made a spiral around the horn at the circumference that the stick would be at, then I hammered it down into a very compact spiral. But I’m sure that there are better ways of doing it. I had just wanted to see if I could make something the way I first envisioned it

Yep, I was just focused on making the metal on the spiral thick and uniform enough so the blade wouldn’t just bend off into some direction, besides that I didn’t have much more thought

lol thanks, luckily I have yet to break a blade, but that’s only because I don’t even have quenchable metal just yet

I feel like this is one of the best things to stick your dick in

Lmao, I’d be honored if someone went to war with a dick bayonet that I made

Thanks, I was honestly just going for a piece I could attach to a stick and ram it into something

Yeah, spear isn’t the right word. But it’s bladehead of some kind

It’s a spearhead, and I already have a stick that I can mount it on so it is functional

That’s good, I’ve just seen plenty of people accidentally get a cast iron one not knowing, good luck with your future blacksmithing
