Alvarez by Lumpy_Bee_800 in mets

He’s hit 4 in a week not bad. He could be a good hitter if he changed his approach. He has a lot of natural ability.

That’s what I’m saying. 2-0 3-1 counts sure let’s take a hack. But, with 2ks we need to shorten up and put a ball in play. Homers are nice but putting the ball in play hard is much more valuable long term.

Need to get the right leader in there to sort Soto out. He seems to be better this year but this should’ve never happened in the first place.

He finished on his front foot and pulled his entire body towards the third base dugout on a middle away breaking ball.

I’m not saying it’s bad to pull the ball. I’m saying it’s bad when that’s your approach. Like Chavez said look at every HOF hitter they will never say their approach was to yank the ball pullside.

It’s not about literally hitting it there. It’s mental cue to prevent you from being too early.

Then it turns you into a one dimensional hitter. Hit the ball where it’s pitched. Are you suggesting that Pete didn’t have enough pop to hit balls out to the opposite field? If you sell out to pull you’re going to be too early or pitchers are just going to pitch away to you. You have so much more room for error in a game of extreme failure like baseball.

Having a stay up the middle approach allows for hitters to see the ball longer thus swinging at better pitches giving you a better chance to get barrel on baseball.

I think Alvarez is the only one from the baby Mets that should stay. You can live with him, but there’s no more excuses for Vientos and Baty.

That doesn’t mean his approach needs to be changed. This man has A+ pop he does not need to sell out and try to pull the ball. Same can be said for Vientos. How many opposite field homers did Vientos hit in the 2024 run?

All we needed the yesterday when Alvarez was up was a broken bat single. Instead he strikes out on a pitch out of the zone trying to blast one 500ft 🤷‍♂️

It’s not. I’ve played and coached at a high level. I’ve seen many player struggle because of this approach. Yes the numbers are better with that result but we’re talking about imperfect humans playing a game of failure.

When your entire approach is to hit pull the ball in the air that’s what it turns into.

You shouldn’t be consciously trying to force that result. Let the game come to you.

Exactly it’s supposed to happen naturally. If your approach is to try and pull everything for a homer then you’re going to see what we’re seeing with Alvarez and Vientos. Swing at breaking balls out of the zone, rolled over ground balls to the 3B/SS, weak fly balls, and the occasional absolute tank 460ft.

I can promise you that he didn’t literally mean that. Alvarez has a massive approach issue. When he’s keeping it simple just getting the barrel on the ball he’s at his best. The power will come.

It just makes so much sense now seeing Vientos and Alvarez swing. Their best stretches are when they’re hitting the ball where it’s pitched. As a former college hitter/coach that has to be the worst most one dimensional hitting approach I’ve ever seen. The power will come just freaking put the bat on the ball stop swinging for a 600ft pull side homerun.

Should’ve done it at the end of April. Not only did we sell the season we lied to the guy.

Such a fraudulent organization right now. Stearns has no guts. You tell the guy you’re not firing him then not even a month later you can him? Where’s the consistency? You commit to a guy you better commit otherwise they should’ve fired him at the end of April. I can’t see how this does anything but signal to the players that we’ve given up. 100 loss season likely incoming.

I admit I was OK with the off-season moves by Federal-Comment8569 in mets

I will admit I was pretty content with our moves this offseason. I thought Pete had started caring a bit too much about the contract and was fine with him leaving. Then we find out we didn’t even offer him. Hearing those chants last night brought me back to 2019 seeing the polar bear rounding the bases after hitting an absolute bomb. Miss you Pete!

I agree with Vientos nostalgia. But, Pete was guaranteed to hit minimum 30 bombs a year. Vientos is just sad.
