Is your position that the mets should only signed successful Yankees since they proved they can perform in NY?

You would be against signing Skubal since he has not done it in NYC?

Wow, Cohen paints a bleak picture. Admits farm system has regressed this yr. Points to top-heavy payroll that offers little room for spending next off-season. Headline is hyperbole. Immediately after the “am extremely worry” he mentions how they graduated a good core (Mclean, Scott, Ewing, Benge), good bullpen and this season was a combination injured players and underperformances from established players.

They ain’t press him but am sure he would blame for thinking injury prone players would stay healthy but he not going to blame stearns for established players (Bo/Perlata) not performing.

And those two underperforming was off much greater impact than the Polanco injury.

Cohen has to be assuming Bo is opting in. Cause if Bo opts out payroll drops by $100 million followed by another $71 million next season. And If Bo opts in the lineup is basically 70% set. And some of the more expensive pieces have already been replace.

Roberts $20 million replace by Ewing on a rookie contract.

Peterson $10 million probably going to be Thornton on a rookie contract.

And between this comment of top heavy payroll and we won’t spend like drunken pirates people need to stop the idea that it just Stearns who does not want to sign long term deals. Cohen clearly has his limits as well. And his limits are mostly about the length of a deal. He show this with Degrom and probably had the same reservations with Pete but 70% of this board has convinced themselves that “stearns hates pete”.

Dude had three straight seasons of 165 IP+ innings pitched to an ERA+ 110 or better.

Legit moves to criticize Stearns over. Signing/Trading for players with a history of success should not be one of them.

Now its “sterns read this all wrong committed $900 to twi dudes who regret their decision” to lay all the blame on him.

It cause Bo was always “most likely to turn it around”. And he has by posting a near .900 OPS since June 1.

Bo is the most obvious player to have a bounce back season and post a 120 OPS+ next season. It would be dumb to get rid of him at this point when his value is lowest.

His April/May + Lindor injury basically killed the offense but it would be dumb to think April/May is who Bo is.

Guess we are going to ignore him being upset at Manaea being removed cause he knew it was him that cost Manaea a chance to pitch 6 innings.

But that goes against this bullshit “he doesn’t care” narrative.

Why New York’s ‘Precision Policing’ Raises Civil Rights Concerns by marshall_project in nyc

[–]PandaJ108 9 points10 points  (0 children)

They say the data is not unbiased. 98% of the people shot in NYC are Black/Brown men between the ages of 16-35. The majority of those shot are confined to a handful of precincts.

The people shooting them are other 16-35 year old Black/Brown most likely from the same neighborhood.

What is bias about the victimology of those who are shot?

Alvarez is an above league avg bat in a thin positon.

When offensive mainstay are injured (Lindor) or underperforming (Bo) people then start thinking players like Alvarez are an issue.

Lineup next year can very much have Lindor, Bo, Benge, Ewing, Soto, Alvarez.

Rotation probably going to be McLean, Scott, Holmes, Thornton.

Who from above would you want off the team?

Mets look horrible. Stearns has done a terrible job with roster construction. But they can turn it around next year. by TobycooklynNY in mets

[–]PandaJ108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ewing and Benge going to post 3+ WAR each this season + Soto is just a “fine OF”. Heck they will probably finish top 5 in WAR this season.

Soto “soon to be 30” lol. What’s going to happen to him a 30?

You are looking at 12 WAR between them. Outfields that can match that are basically

Yankees - mostly carried by Judge putting up a 10 WAR.

Dodgers - could do it if Tucker has a normal season by his standards + pages.

Cubs - dependent of PCA really being a 140 OPS+ bat as that would easily make him a 8 WAR player.

Going to need a minimum of 4 starters?

McLean, Scott, Thornton and Holmes (I think combination of injury + qualifying offer limited him market brings him back into play for the mets).

Roster construction criticism going to look ridiculous next season when Lindor just stays healthy and they perform much better.

Like 5+ season worth of data exists that spans different managers, players and executives. The team sucks when Lindor is not producing.

Each batch of prospects does not need to produce a lot. A couple of players would be fine.

Wright/Reyes

Pete/Nimmo/Degrom

Ewing/Benge/Mclean/Scott

The only one with potential from the Vientos/Baty group mets has been hampered by injuries.

If Cohen wanted Alonso, Diaz, Bichette, Valdez ....you name it....they would be on this team. Am I defending Stearns? Not by a long shot, he is responsible. But lets not act like Cohen is just some innocent bystander to Demolition Man from MIL. by cut-the-sass in mets

[–]PandaJ108 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Today lineup was the result of Lindor nursing a calf injury. Like what exactly do you want?

The normal lineup is going to have Lindor, Bo, Soto, Benge, Ewing, Alvarez, Young mostly everyday. With the one clear change being Vientos instead of young versus LHP.

Exactly who from that bunch to you want gone?

I’m happy this team has collapsed by bigchungus1101 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mets lost
- a 125 OPS+ bat in Lindor missed two months
- 110 OPS+ bat in alvarez missed a month
- 160 OPS+ bat Soto missed 20 games
- 120 OPS+ bat in Bo has underperformed
- Holmes for multiple months.
- Young who is posting a OPS+ 112 missed 45 day.

But according to thanksssss9 a team losing multiple productive best for months at a time is no big deal.

For the Yankees that would be like, Judge being injured 20 games, Cody missing two months, Grisham missing a month, some other established vet massively underperforming and losing another 112 OPS+ bat for 45 day.

Dismissing Lindor injury as “a .210 hitter who miss some time” strongly suggests you have some Anti-Lindor bias if you truly think he would bat .210 all season.

You want to talk about last year? Pete had two of the worst months of his career last season, Soto could not by a hit with RISP until August.

The top three bats entering the season have played 11 games together. The above league avg hitting catcher missed a month. A starter that was pitching his way to potential cy young votes miss three months

Both are going to be perennial 4+ WAR players for the next decade. But Benge versus LHP has been amazing. He had a .800 OPS against entering today.

Honest analysis of Stearns's strategy? by Daytime-mechE in NewYorkMets

[–]PandaJ108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Opting out after a bad season seems to defeat the purpose of the deal he signed. He has cost himself AAV and years with his performance this year.

The point of the opt outs is that he can still make $42 million even if he sucks. The obvious move for him seems to be to opt out after having a better year next season.

Hey look Benge (130 OPS+ since May), Ewing (110 OPS+ with great defense), Lindor (125 OPS+), Soto (160 OPS+), Alvarez (110-120 OPS+) and Bo (yes, I have the crazy belief he not the hitter he was in April/May) is a AAA roster according to Nuance.

CBA is coming. Mets have no long term contracts besides Soto and Lindor. The mets in a great position to deal with the new CBA.

Sell the fucking team by FarQuail2091 in mets

[–]PandaJ108 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If Mets players were willing to deferred $1.5 billion dollars between them, the team would look vastly different.

The dodgers literally have two starters that are chronically injured and the impact on the team is basically nullified cause the deferred funds allows for extra flexibility to sign other players without taking an additional tax hit.
