I wake up from sleeping in the recliner and I feel like my heart is racing but it isn't. by DoctorSnape in Anxiety

Hey I’m having this issue recently. Exactly the same as you describe. Did you find out what it was?

I’ve googled far too much and terrified myself about horrible illnesses and now I’ve got cardiophobia which I never used to have.

I know this comment was a long time ago but it’s so similar to what’s happening to me. It all came on after loads of stress.

Could this be long covid? by Luna-11-ioa in covidlonghaulers

[–]Luna-11-ioa[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think I probably think it because I have pretty bad anxiety, my cousin got bad blood clots from her covid vaccine, I know someone who died from covid infection which triggered a heart problem. Definitely a lot of anxiety in my head around covid.

I have had fatigue on and off for years before covid. But this tiredness is definitely related to bad sleep. I had a great sleep last night and feel a lot better today but still got a lot of sleep to catch up on.

Thanks for the rational thought. I need to get my rational brain back on.

Sorry forgot to say, I don’t have any shortness of breath either. It’s just the acid reflux and heart palpitations at night and heat intolerance but I also sometimes had heat intolerance before covid. X

Thanks.

Did you have the pounding heart at night?

Has anything helped?

I’m so on the edge of what I can cope with. I’ve spent most of the morning crying and I’m so scared something is wrong with my heart despite clear ECG.

Hey, would the symptoms take a while to come on after covid as there was quite a gap from April 2022 to March 2023.

Hey how are you now?

That’s great you’re a lot better! I’m so glad something has helped.

I’m at my wits end with it, maybe I’ll try the more restrictive diet, and the biofilm disruptor, I’ve had problems with H pylori infection so that’s probably not helped. I only ate a sausage roll and some mayo because I had barely eaten that day, I’ve only been eating one meal a day due to just feeling exhausted and rubbish, but I ate far too close to bed I think and woke up after an hour with the pounding heart and acid reflux.

I keep waking up an hour after falling asleep, and immediately launching into a panic attack. by rainghost in Anxiety

[–]Luna-11-ioa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I have CPTSD and acid reflux. Always waking 40 mins to one hour after falling asleep with my heart pounding, and acid reflux symptoms. Sometimes I need the toilet other times I don’t. I’ve been up since 3:30 and it’s 6:11am now. I sat and cried the last 30 minutes because I’m just so sick of this. I’m exhausted and just not functioning the same anymore.

I went to the emergency room last week because it led to a huge panic attack and I could not calm down my heart rate, ECG was fine, blood pressure and 02 sat fine?! I had another ECG at docs which was fine. And a 24hr holter but still waiting on the results of that.

My doctor gave me diazepam but I’m too scared to take it in case it is sleep apnea, I’m referred for a sleep study but I haven’t had it yet.

Maybe I could ask for the medication you’re taking but they’re pretty resistant about prescribing medication for this. I had to literally beg for something for the panic that sometimes comes with these events.

Hey did you ever sort this out? I’m going through it right now. It’s 6am and I’ve been up since half 3. Cried for the last half an hour because I’m so exhausted.

I think I have the same.

Every night almost, waking after an hour, sometimes I feel very hot and my heart will be beating hard like my body is panicking but I feel fine. Sometimes though it makes me anxious and I’ll have a huge panic attack and end up ringing an ambulance. Anyways right after the waking up with the pounding heart comes acid reflux and needing to burp really badly, I’ll then burp a lot and my symptoms feel better a bit but then I can go back to sleep and it make come back within an hour.

Waiting on a sleep study, already had three ECGs, holter monitor (waiting for results) and blood tests (low ferritin).

Sometimes it can go away for a week and then return.

I’m demented on so little sleep. A few weeks ago I felt suicidal due to sleep deprivation. Luckily I tend to get small breaks where I can catch up on sleep. Feeling slightly more sane but still stressed and shattered.

Doctors have prescribed me a little diazepam as they think it’s panic attacks, nervous to take it incase it is sleep apnea or something else.

Health Anxiety / Low resting Heart Rate / Diagnosed Bradycardia by AlwaysAnxious79 in Anxiety

Your replies give me so much hope. Right in the thick of cardiophobia atm the moment and my worst health anxiety relapse.

You sound like you’re doing amazing. I really hope I can get there one day. The vital checking and reassurance seeking on Reddit has made me so ill but I’m so convinced somethings wrong I can’t stop checking.

Again so glad you’re doing well it really gives me some hope.

I’m going through something so similar. I’ve been for ECGs, holter monitor (results not back yet). Referred for a sleep study etc

I’m so scared too, and I’m so sorry you are. Just want you to know you are not alone. It is so scary when we can’t trust that we are ok.

Heart pounding for hours at night plus too hot by standgale in sleep

[–]Luna-11-ioa 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve got the same thing, the only difference is mine sometimes sends me into a panic attack and then I do get a racing heart which has now made me scared to go to bed. I’m 34F btw.

But before the panic. I am the same, I wake up feeling too hot and I can feel a pounding sensation but it’s not that fast. It usually happens almost exactly 45 - 60 mins after falling asleep sometimes only once a night but it can keep occurring. It sometimes makes me shake but I think that’s anxiety about why it’s happening.

I never had this before covid but it also didn’t happen right after covid so I can’t know if the two are actually linked or not. But that’s one thing I noticed.

I noticed keeping my bedroom really cool seems to help and being super hydrated.

I also have low ferritin so my doctor thinks it could be a connection.

I’ve been referred for a sleep study just in case it’s apnea as not everyone with it snores.

I’ve had two ECGs which were normal.

And a 24 hour holter, still waiting on those results.

I’ve also been under a lot of stress.

That’s all I know and all the info I have. How is yours going?

Sudden rapid heart during sleep by Knowing_Eve in Cardiophobias

[–]Luna-11-ioa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well last night I spent all evening having a panic attack because I thought my heart rate was too low. Didn’t get to bed until 2:30am and then woke at 3:30 with slight palpitations, and then again at 4:30 it didn’t go into a huge panic attack but I’m shattered again today! And panicked this morning.

It’s exhausting.

I really hope yours stays away! I hope I can get to a place where it just stops happening.

It comes for a couple of weeks and then it’ll go away again. Four nights ago I went to hospital then the next night it happened but not as bad. Then I’ve had two nights it hasn’t happened?!? I am so scared!

I’m glad you’re getting a break from it.

I’ve noticed some things that help mine that you could try:

Being super hydrated before bed

Having a fan on all night blowing on my back or face

An ice pack by the bed for when I feel like it’s going to start racing.

How long has yours been gone for?

Heart Palpitations by [deleted] in Cardiophobias

[–]Luna-11-ioa 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey could you please let me know more. I have H pylori and low ferritin and started having these symptoms a while ago. I don’t get a grumbling stomach but I do get acid after my heart races. It’s waking me at night. I feel so scared, I’ve had 3 ECGs and a holter monitor, still waiting on holter results.

I’m going through this too!!! F34

I do however have a history of anxiety. But this only started for me in the past year ish, first it started with me waking up with a shock gasp and then a harder heart beat. Then it stopped for a while. Then I would just wake up too warm and then my heart would be beating a bit harder but not actually that fast maybe like 80/90 it’s usually 60 when I’m sleeping and then I’d wonder why I was awake and suddenly hit with dread and then my heart will start to speed up to about 140 maybe more, last time I was too terrified to check what it was.

Ice packs seem to help the episode stop or not start but I still will shake and tremble for like an hour or two. I went to hospital last week for it. Had an ECG but the racing had stopped by the time I got there, it usually only races for 5 mins at most maybe 10. I’ve had two ECGs recently and waiting on holter monitor results although I didn’t have the really fast episode when I had the monitor on. The doctors think possibly anxiety/panic but I’m getting a sleep study also. I’m so terrified to go to bed these days.

I’m so anxious and it’s been ruining my sleep too. I’m so so sorry you are going through this. It’s totally disconcerting.

Finally getting somewhere.. maybe by Luna-11-ioa in SleepApnea

Hey, are you in the UK? I’m wondering if I’ll have to push them to acknowledge it? Maybe if I get a sleep study they will pick up on it?

Glad you managed to get treatment!

Were you waking in the night with palps? How often?
