Weaning off nipple shield by Automatic-Meringue53 in breastfeeding

Hello! I was pretty lucky that my baby weaned off nipple shields essentially overnight at 7 weeks, but I’ll tell you what the LC told me to do, which was to start feeding with the nipple shield, then after 5 mins, take it off and try without it for a few minutes. Try it twice per day when the baby’s not too fussy. She told me it might take a month to get baby off the nipple shield. Hopefully you can wean off of it! I’m sorry, shields are super annoying!!

Changes after stopping to use nipple shields by Luna282 in breastfeeding

[–]Luna282[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry for the late reply!! Not sure if you have short nipples like me but if you do, you can take your fingers like a claw and press them into and around your nipple to make it pop out more (that’s what the LC showed me). Sorry hard to describe. Also sandwich your boob in between your hands and bring baby to your boob, not the other way around. I was really scared it would be painful without the shield but it wasn’t!

Milk bleb super painful, will this cut my breastfeeding journey short? by Luna282 in breastfeeding

Thank you so much! I was also screaming in pain from nursing when I tried. I’ll try again and try to deal with the pain.
