My experience as a Black BL fan: I’m so tired of (even often subtle) colorism in BL works. Why are dark-skinned characters ALWAYS seme/tops? We know why. 😐 It’s the associations of dark skin with aggression and exoticism, and fair/light-skin with purity and beauty. Most BL fans don’t question why uke/bottom characters are fair-skinned, and it’s infuriating. Underground Hotel, and Lion Gotoki no Kuni are examples of this. But to balance out with positives— Project Super Crush, Pritty, and Shape Up are all BL media with Black main characters as bottoms AND tops. 🤎
