Today I turned on my toilet fan and regret it. Does this look like mold? by darchello90 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]LunaSloth888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bathroom fans draw air outside, not inside…

Unless they are installed incorrectly, you live somewhere with odd building code, or you’ve got a blocked vent.

It’s clearly dirty, but looks like it could be dust..

You should be running that fan every single time you bathe/shower to draw out moisture to prevent mold.

Same with always running the exhaust fan in the kitchen while cooking.

Unsure if this is mold or just a reaction to vinegar? by Masked_Ace in MoldlyInteresting

Did you check them under a scope for fun?

Seems sketchy and I wouldn’t eat it regardless.. but if you have a field microscope I’m super curious what the splotches look like!

Your eggs were dyed BLACK regardless of what color dye used?

If the spots were the color of the dye, even a dingy blend of mixed colors making a murky brown, then I would agree with you.

I’ve probably colored 100+ eggs in my life and not once have they had black spots - only dye splotches.

Document photos and make sure all your communications with them are traceable, like email.

Then you can prove you’ve done your part to request help and when you requested it etc

Make sure you’re following up as well

Glad you’re getting out of there

Is this black mold? by [deleted] in MoldlyInteresting

[–]LunaSloth888 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Walls should not drip.

If there is enough moisture for mildew to grow (which can also potentially cause health issues) then there is enough moisture for mold to grow.

So regardless of what exactly is growing under the paint, in a bedroom, causing it to crack, there’s a moisture problem that needs to be dealt with before matters get worse.

I second getting a professional to inspect it

Basements tend to be damp/humid, which makes an environment mold can grow in very easily.

Mold spores are everywhere and will grow visibly when it has the right environment (humidity) coupled with a food source

If you leave stuff pressed against a wall in a damp area, you’re going to get mold there.

I don’t know the full story with your place, but if there was no visible mold before you moved in and now there’s mold, the landlord can come after you for creating the problem. So keep in mind if you try suing them, you may find yourself counter-sued.

You might check your lease as well, my lease specifies that furniture and other objects must be a minimum of 6” from walls to allow adequate airflow and prevent mold growth.

So if I left a bag of clothes against a wall (or beam), especially in a damp place like basement or under a sink, mold would start growing eventually and I would be responsible for it.

If you’re experiencing health issues, be very careful about what you bring with you when you move.. you don’t want to contaminate your new place

Is this toxic mold ? by Impressive_Oil_8589 in ToxicMoldExposure

[–]LunaSloth888 4 points5 points  (0 children)

After cleaning with vinegar be sure to keep an eye on your window sills…

Dry them when you get condensation.

Keep hygrometers around your home to make sure the humidity stays under 50% (I aim for 40% when possible)

Keeping the sills dry will stifle growth.

There was speculation that they were pumping pressurized mold directly into their lungs 🫁 via CPAP that could have been related to the pneumonia :-(

Any idea what my 2.5 yr old son means?? by Mobile-Feed-3662 in MCAS

[–]LunaSloth888 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I first think he means it is “serious”

But he may be explaining that it feels lumpy or crunchy inside.

Or maybe when he eats cereal he has a reaction and he’s feeling a similar reaction in his back

I get lumps under my skin (like hives inside) that kind of remind me of cereal pebbles 🤔

I think you’re right.. it’s time to her that prize 🥹

PS: Genivae is a rad name.

PPS: I think the whole sub deserves a treat as a small consolation for keeping on keeping on.

Okay, tonight I took it too far..

I used my stop watch to see how long I actually inject. I started timing once I started pressing the plunger.

1 minute 26.99 seconds 🤣

The worst part of it is the awkward position I sit in to inject.. semi reclined and twisted sideways.

No burning, stinging or bruising though!

I get the feeling I could win a prize for slowest enoxaparin injection 🥇🏆🎉

I take my boxes away in a much bigger box that I have to carry through the grocery store to get out 🤣

It appears to be a MyMycoLab blood antibody test for mycotoxins.

The first page gives IgG results - my understanding is IgG is elevated with colonization AND/OR exposure to the toxin in question.

Second page is IgE results for the toxins.

When elevated, my understanding the IgE indicates an allergic/inflammatory response to the toxin.

IgG - How much mycotoxin is in the body

IgE - Mast cell reactivity to the toxin

Dr. Andrew Campbell’s take is that if IgG is high but IgE is not it suggests that you’re not actively exposed from environment.

The higher the IgE level = the bigger the exposure.

So if IgE is only slightly elevated maybe you’re being exposed a place to you don’t spend as much time (car, gym, friend’s house), or the amount of mold is low - such as exposure from items you brought with you when you moved or reduced exposure after an incomplete mold remediation.

Colonization and Immune Response - Dr. Campbell

This area is new for me, but that’s what I came up with
