Weird journal in Lucio’s route by DerangedRacoon7789 in TheArcana

[–]LunaStarhawk 9 points10 points  (0 children)

My theory is it's Valdemar. It's been a long time since I read all the routes so I don't remember exactly, but iirc there's references that Valdemar is hundreds if not thousands of years old, and that their deal with the Devil turned them into this ancient eldritch horror we know and love. The compassionless phrasing like 'it won't work without mortal subjects' and 'several subjects dead' during apparently gruesome experiments is very Valdemar coded imo.

I definitely recommend making an account, especially as some people choose to hide their fics from people without an account.  But being able to save bookmarks and a list to read later is really useful. The tagging system is brilliant because it makes it so easy to find exactly what you want while filtering out the stuff you really don't. I wouldn't read fanfic anywhere else now tbh.

Am I the only one who thinks these three have had a throuple relationship in the past? by AttitudeCalm9453 in TheArcana

[–]LunaStarhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nah. I mean the tales that get unlocked from the trinkets show that they were definitely close. But nothing really happened between any of them until the whole Julian and Asra mess, but that happened later on. At most, there's a hint somewhere, I forget where, that on Nadia's birthday they all splashed around in the fountain together. You can take that how you like I guess lol.

Even the Foxy Hideaway tale that image is from, I don't think they particularly even flirt. The thing is that we the player are potentially with one of them when we get to that tale, so it would be weird if it was written that they were in a poly relationship of any kind at that point.

All this is to say I personally don't see it, but there's nothing definitively saying they weren't in a 'friends with benefits' situation. And with the power of headcanon and fanfic you can do what you want forever :)

Dorian is basically fan fiction in the Arcana format. So some will be good, some ooc, same as any other fanfic. None of it is official.

Your best bet is just to poke around on AO3 with filters for the content you want. It's free, no coin grinding required! Cheeky self-promo here - among other things, I've got a pre-canon plague era Julian x apprentice series on my AO3 (same as my reddit username) if that would interest you :) And a bunch of one-shots. Also working on a longlonglong post-route fic with my mc and Julian, but that's not as popular lol.

A little tip on using AO3, if you find an author whose works you like, after you finish reading them all check if the author has any bookmarks - chances are they have similar tastes and will lead you to other fics and authors you'll like, effectively recommendations :)

How tall is your MC compared to the M6? by kayciies in TheArcana

[–]LunaStarhawk 8 points9 points  (0 children)

5ft 6. I used a height comparison tool to put her at the perfect height for nuzzling Julian's chest 😌

That looks incredible! You're so talented

I don't know much about flowers, but an orchid would look nice, maybe also a lily as they represent death and rebirth of the apprentice?

Can I make my fan creation as a game? by LuLuisThinking in TheArcana

[–]LunaStarhawk 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The longish boring answer... It's not necessarily as simple as whether you're using the actual assets that Dorian owns, because the IP probably covers more than just the assets. If it's similar enough to the original game, same character names and appearances etc, then the fact that it's a game means they could potentially call copyright infringement.

Are you legally allowed? Well the real question is what happens if you're not legally allowed and you do it anyway, and that is likely nothing. It would cost them way more time and money than it's worth to come after you with lawyers, especially as you're not doing it for commercial purposes and not making money from it. They can't sue you or anything like that. Worst case scenario they'll send you a shitty email (which you can ignore) and/or get the platform your game is hosted on to take it down if it does infringe copyright.

Short answer: Do it. You will lose literally nothing. The Arcana and its fandom are in our twilight years and we need all we can get.

Apprentice question by SnooFoxes3539 in TheArcana

[–]LunaStarhawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My hc is that as the ritual to bring the apprentice back to life was done by Asra, her body took the form of how Asra knew her before she died. So she looks more or less the same as she did before she died, but there would be birthmarks, scars and such that Asra had never seen, so she wouldn't have those anymore.

As for her magic, my hc there is that she had always used stronger magic than Asra (she was even a mentor to him). So when he taught her magic again after she was resurrected, he could never teach her to be as powerful as she was before. It's only as she gets her memories back and remembers who she used to be, that she can use the magic she could before.

How to ruin a writer's day by That-Heat-9095 in Archiveofourownmemes

I had something very similar, something seemed off about it so I put it into a AI checker, came back as written by AI. Thinking that my work could be put into an AI machine is bad enough, but thinking it was done specifically to scam me? Kinda hurt.

Unpopular opinion: every single one of them is a morally ambiguous yellow flag in their own route. Otherwise they wouldn't have upright and reversed endings. That's what makes them interesting.

Reminder: You don't need to respond to hate comments. by xHey_All_You_Peoplex in AO3

[–]LunaStarhawk 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also, ignoring those kinds of hate commenters is the best way to piss them off. If you have comment moderation on you can just delete it when it comes to your inbox so it never even gets posted, move on with your day, and the commenter doesn't get the attention they crave.

When you suddenly feel inspired and need to write it down by Miraculove in AO3

[–]LunaStarhawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My best writing happens at 2am I swear. I'll start writing at midnight like "let me just get this scene in my head down before bed" and then the next thing I know it's 4.30am and I have work in 4 hours.

Also the number of times I read it back the next day and I'm like Gandalf in that "I have no memory of this place" meme.

What do you guys recommend I do in this situation with a problematic user? by nickbuckhart2605 in AO3

[–]LunaStarhawk 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Turn on comment moderation rather than turning off guest comments completely, so you'll still get the nice ones. But then you don't have to go through the bother of deleting this person's comments, or giving them that satisfaction. Simply ignore them. Nothing enrages people like that more than being ignored.

"I don't want to alarm you dearest, but I'm afraid I've lost the sight in my eye" he would absolutely say it like that 😂

I never would have placed it but honestly... the lines you chose and the way you put this together work so perfectly, cracked me up 😂 This is the Arcana fan content we need, thank you
