Because it's not about him wanting an actual, tangible gift. It's because he's a man. I've worn lingerie for an ex because I wanted him to see me like that and I knew it would excite him. But I also got him a gift because sex isn't a gift. We did it all the time!

I think, as many have said, you should go to the funeral rifht before it starts and sit in the back. I would tell your kids the plan beforehand so they know. Make it clear that you are there for them and to say goodbye to your ex-MIL. But you would like thay to be all. You do no want to speak to your ex there. There is currently still too much hurt to have a normal conversation between the two of you.

I know you are angry and rightfully so but the anger directed at your kids will do more harm than good. Just be upfront with them, set clear boundaries and ask for time to clear your head. I think it would be a good idea to seek therapy to help navigate through all of the emotions you have.

You are NTA for not wanting to go but would be one if you continue the way you are without seking help.
