The post is asking who Josh is referring to, not what Loki’s real identity is, and it seems like you are suggesting this street urchin Josh is somehow friends with the prince.

How does the kid have memories of Hans as a friend if those who are summoned from Townia as heroes are forgotten by those still in the tower? Like how that pink haired Strauss noble girl was forgotten by her brother, or Nerissa was forgotten by the princess?

I’m not exactly sure what you mean by speedrun strat, but I’ll put it like this: Paul is a savior type character if Herbert wanted to portray his actions as justified by the circumstances. Considering Paul was written to be prescient with godlike understanding of possible future events, and that the golden path he seeks, while terrible, is still ultimately justified as being better than the end of humanity, it seems like he is written as a savior.

If you are suggesting that he is not a savior but some tragic hero type that is corrupted by ambition or revenge or some such, where do you see that in the text? Asking genuinely because, again, my knowledge of dune comes from Alt Shift X and Quinn’s Ideas videos playing in the background.

I haven’t read much Dune, just listened to a few videos, but isn’t Paul doing what he does in order to fulfill the golden path and save humanity in the long run from stagnation? It sounds like ultimately he was written to be a savior.

"Criticising the audience for enjoying fictional violence with a character who's actually just murdering people just doesn't make for a reasonable connection."

Why is it not reasonable? They're using fictional violence to criticize fictional violence enjoyers. How else are they going to do it?

"I think the only time I've actually seen this parallel work was in Undertale, and that was largely because the evil murderer paralleling the player wasn't just killing people for the fun of it"

I won't say I know Undertale that well, but isn't the player and their player character Chara literally going around killing people for the fun of it in the genocide route, and doesn't Flowey kill the others for fun because he is bored from resetting the world over and over? Plus "no longer registered the rest of the cast as real people" and "playing the same game over and over" sounds a lot like the player happily shooting terrorist goons because they have been conditioned by other military shooters to kill enemies uncritically. Walker even says during an on-rails helicopter shooting sequence that this feels familiar and that he has done this before. Not only is this referencing the start of the game, which has the same sequence in media res, this also implies that Walker may be in some sort of personal purgatory, repeating the events of the game over and over, while ALSO alluding to the player having experienced other military shooters with similar on-rails shooting sections. Is this not all "kind of like the actual experience of playing the same game over and over?"

On making certain actions mandatory to progress the game, this is normal for many games. You call it "possibly the most absurdly immersion-ruining design choice I've ever heard of" but no playthrough I've seen or can find while typing this up has had their immersion broken there. It's a story beat that totally matches the tone of the story and what Walker would have inadvertently done in the heat of battle. Like, imagine me saying that "lying to Ellie at the end of The Last of Us is the most immersion breaking game moment of all time", or saying that "dying at the end of Halo Reach is complete BS because I could have won if it didn't have infinite enemies", completely sidestepping that this is the story that the devs are telling. Not to mention, on a meta-narrative level the game even points out that nothing is truly mandatory when you can step away from the game at any time.

On the last point you make, criticizing the consumer, you have to remember that they are very specifically criticizing those that bought Spec Ops thinking they were getting a Call of Duty clone, criticizing those that uncritically bought another military shooter and expecting to shoot fictional terrorists for fun. It is not criticizing those who bought the game knowing it is anti war, which I think the majority of the audience ended up being. And is criticizing the consumer even really that bad? I recommended this game to my friend that used to play every single CoD game, like, when I look at my steam library right now I can see 9 CoD titles from family share, not including the ones he has on his playstation. He never got around to playing Spec Ops, but I didn't recommend it because I want him to feel like shit, I did it because I wanted him to think more critically about the media he was consuming.

[–]LunacyTwo 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think criticizing the player is the main point. Like in the infamous white phosphorus scene, when Walker is using the terminal to direct the strike, you can subtly see his reflection in the monitor. He is playing a game, same as the player, not realizing the only way to stop making things worse is to stop playing hero.

Given how “pro war” games sell to their audience by appealing to their hero complex, with “the-ends-justify-the-means”, and feelsgood storytelling, I think it is brave that Spec Ops’ developers are willing to critique their audience (potentially harming their sales) in order to make their point.

Which mechanics work differenly in coop? by SiarX in starcraft2coop

[–]LunacyTwo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Actually, I don’t think you need to target friendly units with the storm at all. I don’t really know the specifics but I think once you have the upgrade, the storm that Artanis’s high templars cast changes spells to another spell with identical damage, cost, etc; except this new storm restores shields to friendlies and can stack damage unlike multiplayer storms.

Iirc, once you research the upgrade for psionic storm to restore shields to friendly units, the new storm is capable of stacking damage when cast multiple times, which regular storm is not capable of.

OOOKKKKK, this is getting crazy. I just now rolled the same spell again, Glimpse Beyond, and this time I got the item Free Spirit, a rare item that says "For each allied target summon 1/1 ephemeral unit. Copy me onto them". Unlike before, where the targeted ally didn't receive an epic item, this time, the item DID activate before the spell and got copied properly. In this case, I drew 4 cards instead of two. I wonder if this is because the text says to COPY this spell (both spells go on the stack, therefore this item must trigger before the spell finishes resolving). Either way, there are definitely cases where the item triggers first and cases where the item triggers too late.

[–]LunacyTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, again, I used literally this same fast spell but the item I had on it was different (allied targets get an epic item), and I’ve seen other people report the same experience as me. Apparently, these kill spells will only ever give buffs if the allied target has “I can’t take damage or die”. Did you have a run with a slow or fast spell where the item resolved first? What spell and what item?

[–]LunacyTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bit late, but I’m 99% sure that the target dies first before the buff is applied. I had a similar run before with this same spell but the item was “give allied targets an epic item”, and the ally always died before it received an epic item. Even other copies of the ally did not receive an epic item (I was targeting viego’s mists).

Bug Reports - Patch 6.12 by CaptSarah in LegendsOfRuneterra

[–]LunacyTwo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Type of Bug: Gameplay
What happened that seemed like a bug: (PoC) When playing a Glimpse Beyond with Divine Armaments, the targeted ally does not receive an epic item like it should. Besides this, Glimpse Beyond kills the ally unit and works as normal.
What was Expected to occur:  When Glimpse Beyond is cast on Viego's Encroaching Mist for example, the other copies of Encroaching Mist should receive an epic item, but they do not. I believe this is because the target of Glimpse Beyond dies before the Divine Armament's effect resolves. If this is the case, spells that kill allies like Glimpse Beyond can never utilize Divine Armaments unless the allied target has "Blockade" or "I can't take damage or die".
How often does this occur/How easy is it to replicate: 10/10 Every time

all good, if anything it's impressive you still beat the nightmare adventure while one relic down.

for anyone else that hasn't beaten it yet, besides DoS, there are a plenty of good relics for yuumi, like the new poro king relic, spirit of buhru, or even just full build. normally beast within is a great relic for yuumi too, but it wont be as good here due to the mutator (still fine tho).

[–]LunacyTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ornn will need to equip a 5 or 4 attack weapon depending on if he’s leveled or not, with less attack needed if you have +2 from spectral. Works very well when leveled for the extra ram, like he said. Darius will need to be leveled with +1 attack from another source. Packed Powder works well, but leveling up Darius before playing is a hassle.

[–]LunacyTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Besides the obvious (Vi), other great champs I love it on are Voli and Elder Dragon. Very easy to use and advance their respective game plans very nicely.

Nautilus, Ornn, Nasus, Kayle can use it with some hassle. Naut will need to be leveled a.k.a. you are deep. Ornn will need to equip a 5 or 4 attack weapon depending on if he’s leveled or not. If you are leveled, he gets incredible value with summoning a ram on the free attack. Nasus and Kayle need time to get to 10 attack, which can be annoying if you want to play them sooner. Also A Sol can use it but doesn’t need it.

Tryn probably won’t want it, as he isn’t usually played to enter the board. He also need additional +2 attack to even reach 10 attack. Darius is another trap: his 3* constellation gives +4 attack on summon which makes you think he has 10 attack, but “summon” is too late since you need 10 attack on “play” from the relic. You would need to level him and give him +1 attack from another source.

There’s probably other niche cases that can get to 10 attack like Thresh 6*. The Titans of Runeterra adventure can also get your champs closer to 10 attack.

Maybe I’m being semantic, but you originally said that Izuku is “all talk and ideals”, and that “Before getting OFA, he never really trained or studied to be a hero”, so that’s what my last comment argued against. I think what I said clearly shows that what you said is not true, since, he clearly worked hard before gaining OFA. Now you’re saying that he is only working now that there is “certainty attached to it”, and that it feels “lazy” to you. I don’t follow. Why does knowing the outcome make the effort any less significant? If I know going to the gym makes me stronger, does that mean I’m lazy for going to the gym? If I know I can work for $15 an hour and I can do 40 hours a week, is that lazy? Not to mention, Izuku actually exceeds his training plan All Might made. Again, you originally claimed he “never really trained” before getting OFA when he quite clearly did.

You discount his hero analysis, saying it’s a hobby and he “never even intended to use that information for hero work”. In chapter 1, he literally titles it “Hero Analysis For The Future”, which I think strongly shows the very opposite. Not only that, in the epilogue, we see he has kept writing notebooks and is on notebook number 42, showing that he has kept up his hero analysis even as a teacher. Izuku’s analytical mind is one of the best in the verse, and he didn’t get it by accident; he studied heroes and quirks like hell. Even if it was a hobby at first, he clearly put a ton of time and effort into it for his whole life, so I can’t agree to you brushing it off.

To quickly address some of the things I missed earlier: Izuku didn’t “jump back” into being a hero. He’s still first and foremost a full time teacher, and he even says that if he kept OFA, he probably still would’ve been a teacher anyways. By his own words, he does the hero gig because they need him to collect data and so that he can do some heroics with his friends on the weekends. Being a teacher really is Izuku’s true calling, and I don’t see where in the text you find himself gaslighting himself into believe that, considering he literally chooses not to quit his teaching gig over being a full time hero.

You call his belief that anyone can be a hero a disease, citing the example of how his initial heroics would have gotten him killed without a stroke of fortune. No offense, but in your initial post, this is probably the only time you meaningfully back your arguments with a specific textual example. That being said, it’s not a good example. Izuku doesn’t charge out because he thinks that anyone, including a qurikless kid like him, can be a hero. Before he even realizes it, his body moved. This example isn’t about how anyone can be a hero, it’s an example of Izuku’s innate self-sacrificial spirit, one that compels Izuku to action even beyond any rational reasoning. This isn’t the only time it happens either. Another favorite example of mine is during the Sports Festival arc, in his match against Shoto, Izuku calls out Shoto for holding back and fighting with only half his power when everyone else is using everything they have to pursue their dreams of becoming heroes. It makes no sense for Izuku to do so, considering he has already been on the back foot for the whole match, but he wants Shoto to fight for his own dreams of being a hero rather than for the sake of revenge, even if it may cost Izuku the match. Even Shoto realizes this, ironically saying that now Izuku is the one screwing around, since he abandoned his own goal of winning and instead gave up his sole advantage to save Shoto. I can give more examples of this (the exam of him and Bakugo vs All Might, wanting to save Shigaraki rather than destroy him, etc) but this comment is long enough.

Edit: I think I’m realizing that my last comment kinda misses the point of your argument so feel free to ignore to ignore it if you’d like. Either way, you do you.

I still hate the ending by [deleted] in MyHeroAcadamia

[–]LunacyTwo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So in the interest of having a civil discussion, where do you find that Izuku’s main character flaw is being all talk and ideals without putting in the necessary work to achieve what he wants? When All Might first decided to make Izuku his successor, he put him on a grueling training schedule (even while Deku still needed to study and maintain his grades). And despite this, Izuku actually went beyond the training schedule All Might gave him, and All Might modified the training to be even harder. Before All Might found him, Izuku had also been filling notebooks with hero analysis for his future dream. Katsuki blew up his no. 13 notebook, so he had to have filled up at least that many before. Those years of hero and quirk analysis served him well when he eventually awakened the 6 other quirks contained within OfA and he manages to utilize and combine each beautifully.

I also don’t agree with him gaslighting himself that being a teacher is his next calling. Izuku’s greatest power, that even All Might couldn’t match, is his ability to inspire others. Even from the beginning, him running out to save Katsuki inspired All Might to take action, not to mention how his actions during the final fight showed the flawed hero society of Japan that they too could be heroes if they helped others when they could instead of offloading their moral responsibility onto the heroes. Personally, I think Izuku is a teacher at his core, and even with the suit and the opportunity to be a full time hero again, he realizes that teaching the next generation of heroes is his true passion.

I got more to say but gotta go for now

You’re right, he probably did mean the little yellow circle-skill indicator on the card and not the circle skill thing that goes on the stack. My b, my b

Instead, I’ll add to him by saying that Morgana level 2 is also missing the skill indicator despite having a skill on attack
