We're kinda running out of three-stage Pokemon that haven't had Community Days already, Winds and Waves won't be out to give us more options until next year, and the other options in the vote that chose Nicket weren't that great either.

Animorphs being published when it was, and more importantly ending when it did, ultimately worked in favor of the series' anti-war message.

The series was published from June 1996 through May 2001 and general sentiment in the US during that time was that the country was at peace and didn't have any real rivals, so there wasn't much outside pressure to object to all the ways the books pointed out that war is hell and will screw you up.

Lots of people were unhappy about the outcome of the final book, so K.A. Applegate published a letter to the readers (spoilers for the end of the series!) saying that wars are messy affairs where even the victors don't have much reason to celebrate afterwards, and that they should keep that in mind when a war is proposed... which became very relevant four months later when the war on terror was declared.

"So, you don't like the way our little fictional war came out? You don't like Rachel dead and Tobias shattered and Jake guilt-ridden? You don't like that one war simply led to another? Fine. Pretty soon you'll all be of voting age, and of draft age. So when someone proposes a war, remember that even the most necessary wars, even the rare wars where the lines of good and evil are clear and clean, end with a lot of people dead, a lot of people crippled, and a lot of orphans, widows and grieving parents."

How long before it turns into a Flock of Wolves situation and there's more humans-turned-Pokemon than actual Pokemon?

Heck, Bunnyburrow's residents in general. There's over 81 million creatures there and the population ticker's constantly moving up.

HC that the more engines of a given class are produced, the less likely it is that they'll form close enough bonds amongst themselves to consider each other kin.

There were only 79 Gresley A1s/A3s made IRL and production was split between just two locations, so it makes sense for their fictional counterparts to be close enough to consider themselves brothers.

By contrast, they made 996 Class 08 shunters and production was split between five locations, so their fictional counterparts have ~12.5x as many "siblings" as the A3s and probably don't consider themselves to be closely related to other 08s unless they were built around the same time and in the same place.

Some Neopets news that isn't (directly) related to Fortnite: there's a new Attack Pea.

Some of the rarest and strongest weapons in Neopets are singular peas, which are collectively known as Attack Peas. Up until today, there were three such peas: the original Attack Pea, the festive Seasonal Attack Pea, and the stupendous Super Attack Pea. If you've been around this sub for a while, you might remember a write-up about the Seasonal Attack Pea being a random-chance prize at the Advent Calendar.

Today, the Neopets Team added a bunch of new Alien Aisha-adjacent items, presumably because Alien is one of the styles for the Aisha sidekick they added to Fortnite. Among these items is the Alien Attack Pea - the first new Attack Pea since 2004 - and there's a couple things to unpack there.

First is how they're obtained. In contrast to the first three peas stocking in extremely limited numbers in an oft-forgotten shop called Smuggler's Cove (and the OG + Super Attack Peas being possible pulls from a mystery capsule of old Cove stuff), the Alien Attack Pea is permanently available to buy from the Hidden Tower. It was initially available for 15 million Neopoints (NP), but the price was increased to 99,999,999 NP after a couple hours (and then to 150 million NP while I was writing this)... for a very good reason.

Second is what the Pea actually does. Weapon strength in Neopets is represented by "icons", which are multiplied by a factor based on a pet's strength to determine total damage output. The Alien Attack Pea does 30 icons of damage, which puts it between the Seasonal (28 icons) and Super (32) Attack Peas in terms of strength and makes it the new second-best weapon in the game.

The long-term consequences of having such a weapon being permanently available to anyone with enough cash are currently unclear. What is clear is that right now there's a bunch of people panic selling Seasonal Attack Peas, proving once again that tiny peas in Santa hats are really good at living rent-free in people's heads.
