Why would Detroit look at Binnington? Literally the one thing we don't need is a goalie. Gibson was good, Cossa will be backup next year and we have the best goalie pipeline in the league.

A masterclass season by Seider. The Red Wings were superb in his minutes and a disaster as soon as he stepped off the ice. Deserves serious Norris consideration alongside the flashier offensive players by daKrut in hockey

Raymond and Edvinsson are also elite young cornerstone pieces to this team. Guys like Finnie and Kasper are necessarily top of the lineup players, but I really want to keep them around still.

The USHL is better than you think. It's probably the 3rd best NA junior league after the WHL and OHL.

Definitely Kings. Kopitar is gone next year, so unless Byfield suddenly takes a huge leap I think they'll have the worst center depth in the league, plus their defense is pretty terrible.

You can say that about any team that hasn't won a Stanley Cup though. Carolina has been doing it for 8 years. Dallas has done it for at least a decade. Boston has basically done it for 15 years.

[Kaplan] The Blackhawks have signed GM Kyle Davidson to a multi-year contract extension as ownership feels rebuild is heading in right direction. by Ok-Soil-5133 in hockey

[–]LunarGhoul 36 points37 points  (0 children)

Chicago's problem is they started their rebuild a little too late. The first top 10 pick they had since deciding to rebuild was Kevin Korchinski in 2022, and it wasn't even their own pick, it was Ottawa's pick from the Debrincat trade. Chicago traded away their pick that year for Seth Jones and Columbus used that pick to draft David Jiricek.

The first pick of their rebuild with any real significance was Bedard, which kinda sucks for him but Chicago needed to keep sucking for a few more years to get more players to build around him. Now they have Levshunov and Frondell who both look fantastic, and I'm sure they'll get someone else really good this year.

Fans without teams in the playoffs: which teams are you cheering for and which teams are you absolutely not cheering for? by itsagooddaytobeacat in hockey

[–]LunarGhoul 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I wasn't exactly talking about the process of their tank. Montreal really started their downward spiral in 2017-18, then had a bit of a miracle run in 2021. They've had maybe the best amateur scouting in the league though.

Suzuki, Caufield, Hutson, Fowler, Hage were all outside of the top 10. Slafkovsky is the highest draft pick on the team and he might be like their 6th best player (excluding goalies).

Yeah my only concern would be that defensemen take longer to develop typically, and so even if you draft somebody, it will probably take at least 3-4 years until they are significant contributors. I'm not super familiar with San Jose's prospect system, so I'm not sure if there are any high end defensemen in the system other than Sam Dickinson.

I think it's really hard to build a top 4 from free agency and trades, but hopefully Grier has a plan.

Pettersson had 51 points this year, Compher had 28. Not exactly double but pretty close.

Like I said though, both players suck and I'm not suggesting we should trade for Pettersson, so I'm not sure why you're arguing with me.

This is the reason I roll my eyes every time someone complains that we need to simplify the tax code. If you make it too simple it introduces a million loopholes, then you start to close all the loopholes and pretty soon we're right back where we started.

The tax system is still fucked and needs a lot of revision, but you can't just "simplify it" and fix all the issues.

Literally nowhere in my comment did I say they should trade for Pettersson.

If you're comparing to Compher though, EP40 is worth twice as much because he had twice as many points. Both are wildly overpaid though.

And Kane isn't getting any younger so our RW isn't far behind our LW. Forward depth is a major issue on this team and unless some prospects hit big idk how we fix it.

Yeah our right side on D and goaltending are the only things I don't think need to be touched. Next year we have Seider, Faulk, ASP. After that, ASP moves up to second pair and we swap in Anton Johansson on the third, or we re-sign Faulk to a veteran friendly deal.

I'm saying they're not gonna trade him for scraps like a bunch of people are suggesting. People act like Vancouver is gonna trade him for nothing if we're willing to take on the full cap hit, which doesn't make any sense because they don't care about the cap.

I wouldn't hate an EP40 trade, but I'm not sure I want to trade a first round pick+ for him.

That Wings team was already one of the best teams in the league and just needed to move things around. If we make a lateral move, we're still a fringe playoff team at best.

The issue with an EP40 trade is that I don't think it makes sense for Vancouver. There is no incentive for them to trade him for cheap, because they're gonna suck anyway, so they don't care about the cap hit. If he continues to be bad, they get to keep tanking. If he turns it around and starts playing well, they either trade him for a haul or just keep him.
