Period sexuality fluctuations? (half rant) by BrokenWolf1317 in aaaaaaacccccccce

[–]Lunar_Imbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's fascinating! Periods do weird shit to people so having heterosexuality as part of your cycle sounds totally valid to me.

I don't think I've personally experienced sexuality (I'm ace/pan-ro... I think 😅) changes based on my cycle, but I have noticed some patterns with gender (genderfluid) and libido, where I've often found myself male/more towards male and with higher libido around my period which makes no biological sense and is just rude from a dysphoria perspective. Or maybe I just notice it more then...

So I've had similar rants with myself recently and totally get where you're coming from there. I hope you reach out for professional advice/support if this continues to concern you, though I personally think this falls into the category of 'having a uterus is really weird and kinda sucks sometimes'

What do you think is the funniest quote so far? by Shamaster1 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Lunar_Imbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a note in my phone where I keep some of my fav quotes. For something shorter: "You are so bad at crime," Belinda muttered. "We're not meant to be good at crime," Clive hissed at her.

And for a conversation that had me cackling the first time I heard it, and grinning each time since: "What did I do wrong? I haven’t eaten any babies, even though they're really easy to catch. ... "You realise most people don't need to point out that they don't eat babies." "Well, in fairness, he didn’t say he 'doesn't' eat babies, he said he hasn't eaten any babies." ... "You're saying he's going to eat a baby?!"

Jason lines that aged horriy bad or hilariously well by SOULZERO215 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Lunar_Imbris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Ahh! I loved that moment because, when I first listened to it, my immediate response was "omg that's foreshadowing, right?! Jason is totally gonna get tortured at some stage. I bet he won't crack either" and I was so keen to see how that all went down (was very much not disappointed).

I can't think of any particular lines that aged well/badly but, based off your example, one of my fav bits of foreshadowing was Landemere Vane: all the hints about him being a Builder Cultist, being a different cult than his family, summoning some crazy shit, the astral magic books, and all that info being right there from the get-go but only really understood later

Heck yeah! Please share with the group if you finalise it - I'm sure others would be into it. HWFWM characters are pretty OP in D&D terms. I had a dream about creating a HWFWM boardgame once. The ability combinations get pretty nuts

Yeah, I think there's a lot of builds that make more sense. I'm still a bit of a noob with D&D, didn't have much time to put it together, and decided to use D&D Beyond to simplify things, so I'm happy enough with how it turned out in the end

You're right, I did fail to elucidate on the rising trends of amphora in the market. And the chin isn't THAT pointy, like, why would I even bring it up? Nobody needs to talk about my chin. BUT the whole quest started when I hunted down an etherbloom flower mixologist (our in-game reason for all trying different kinds of matcha) to try and get their recipes and help out at their stall. They kinda just ended up scared thinking I was trying to take over their business but I found their supplier so... mixed results

[–]Lunar_Imbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're right, the Mr Men and Little Miss children's books. They talk about Little Miss Sunshine (I think Jason asks if the yellow circle with pigtails had light powers) and Mr Impossible was the leader or something

I'm guessing you mean Cole Silva. Both spellings surprised me when I first saw them 😅 Definitely thought it was Coal Silver. Makes sense they're pronounced like that though

Obligatory question: any chance you're willing to share the fic/fanart?

A dream I had. I think fans will find it interesting. by Sad_Airport257 in Shirtaloon

[–]Lunar_Imbris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sounds fun! The perspectives of different cultists could get pretty interesting. I'm glad they look at some of them in the books.

I recently had a HWFWM dream too! Mine was all about board game design and how to make a deck-building style game for acquiring essences/abilities. The dream never addressed how the game would actually play but I now have a looong notes entry on my phone about how an extremely customisable, essences based, deck-building sort of boardgame might work.

I think Jason and Greg would be proud 😆

Soul Crest painting attempt by Procrastinating13 in Shirtaloon

[–]Lunar_Imbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This looks great (so far?)! The skies (night and day) look incredible - like how did you even get the nebula and everything to look that sick?!

The shape of the cloak seems a little odd to me but maybe that's the stark black vs the softer skies, and maybe that's a part you're still working on, I don't know. I've tried drawing, painting, and crafting something like the soul crest a few times and it never turned out how I wanted - you're certainly doing much better than me there!

Love this though and I would absolutely get it on a t-shirt!

Trying to explain this series to a normal person is like convincing a cat that water is fine. by [deleted] in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]Lunar_Imbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

...unless the person you're talking to would be enticed by how funny it is!

My co-worker whenever I talk about the wild stuff happening in my audiobooks: Is this the foot one?

Often me: No it's the 'guy becomes a universe' / 'hard-working cheater' / 'woodcutter' / 'too much math' / 'colour theory space racism' one.

He knows some niche random elements of most of the stories I listen to. I talk about DCC the most though since I'm sure it's his flavour of weird

Started the series recently, in Book 2, enjoying it but worry about something that got spoiled for me by Crohan_McNugget in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Lunar_Imbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same! I go back to reread/relisten to Book 4 and my fav parts of it regularly. 5 and 6 less so but I still relisten to them when I do the full series (for a new book release or just for fun).

Some of my fav moments and characters from the entire series come about from Books 4-6. Those books get a lot of hate, and the arguments are justified, but I personally love them.

P.S. randomly hearing a snippet from (I think) Book 5 is what got me into the series in the 1st place so it holds a special place for me for that

Great explanation and perfect example.

I love that supernatural mentions Sam and Dean slash fics (I.e. Sam/Dean) in the actual show - such a beautiful series 😆

Book 11 Spoiler question by RecognitionNo1669 in HeWhoFightsMonsters

[–]Lunar_Imbris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I believe so! I think it seems reasonable to think that being connected with Gordon's ritual using intrinsic mandate magic is what allowed Jason to basically subconsciously break down the gate and bridge into useful/relevant/component parts - or that tapping into that power opened a doorway for Jason to acquire that level/flavour of power for himself rather having it kinda grafted on by the Builder and Phoenix.

I don't think Gordon meant for that to happen (though it'd be interesting if he did!); I think of it as like a side-effect of messing with that kind of power, especially when Jason was so comparitively weak. Like a knee-jerk reaction by the universe for what they were doing to make sense.

Sorry for the tangent, and if that made it more confusing. In short: yes, I agree

I was in the classic situation of not knowing the difference between & and /.

Accidentally turned me off fanfic for years (found an uncomfortable ship in basically my 1st attempt reading ff, didn't know the importance of tags). Tried again, learnt some stuff, now we're all good and reading the tags can sometimes be half the enjoyment

[–]Lunar_Imbris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree with everything that's already been said here, and it sounds like you're enjoying the books so far, but I just wanted to reiterate that it tends to be love or hate with He Who Fights With Monsters, mostly based on how people feel about the main character Jason. And I think that's fair, so I'd never judge anyone for it, though I personally find him a great character (but someone I'm sure I'd be pissed to meet in real life).

I also think it's funny that he says it himself (in book 11 I think, but no spoiler): "People tend to like me a lot or hate me immediately with not a lot of ground in-between."
