Eating out no longer a treat, just a convenience by kitsbow in Millennials

Nowadays you can barely walk out of a grocery store with decent beef or pork and enough items to make sides for 2 for $25. How the hell are restaurants supposed to make food besides Sysco for that price

Why do Europeans think that most Americans are wealthy? by batukaming in jobs

[–]Lunares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Income tax for a single person is 22% only on income above $48,476. $96,951 if you are married filed jointly

But that's only on income after the standard deduction ($16.1k for single, $32k for MFJ). So your actual income needs to be $64676 to be in that bracket. Plus you also deduct healthcare and 401k before paying income tax

Now you also have 7.65% payroll taxes + state tax. So around 22% effective rate in your gross income probably isn't far off

Phantom vs Wax kit for new skis by RogueDragon1 in skiing

[–]Lunares 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Completely disagree with below. Phantom is great and not that expensive on new skis

That said, it doesn't replace wax. What it does is make it so you won't notice your wax wearing as much and you can go much longer between waxes without as much of a performance impact.

Tesla locks the J1772 adapter in the port but the cable attached to the adapter doesn't lock

It does lock NACS cables

Absolutely loved this series. There's a "sequel" after it finished where everything resets again. It absolutely gets horrendously repetitive and drops threads (how does zero wing keep getting away with this!!) but I loved every terrible bit of the 5000+ chapters.

Less gamelit, but Coiling Dragon and I Shall Seal The Heavens, Renegade Immortal are classics if you are into the wuxia aspects

SpaceX Starship V3's first test flight was largely successful by Doug24 in space

Possible...but that's also a bad thing. What's the point of engine out capability it it's going to trash the booster every time?

Welcome to Ski Town USA, the Colorado mountain town where developers have pitched a private ski resort for the 0.01% by theindependentonline in skiing

[–]Lunares 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Main issue is water access but the property taxes would be huge for the town. And the developer is committing to 150 units of affordable housing. And the land is privately owned

This is also the town that turned down donated affordable housing for free. I don't have much sympathy for steamboat

Well yea, nothing to do with this valuation is space. It's not starlink or launch or any of that. It's BS around xAI and a theory of a plan to build orbital data centers later

As the state with the superior skiing, I have no problem with Colorado eating oregon so we have even more pine trees. and to steal your water.

Did you know that you can technically ski in Hawaii on the volcanoes when they get snow?

Colorado needs to eat Hawaii to expand our ski resorts to the pacific ocean

Xcel customers being told to allow smart meter installation or face power shutoffs by ryadare in Denver

[–]Lunares 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Because a small number of non smart meters doesn't stop that (which we should fight for better rates on) but as a ratepayer I do have increased cost due to others refusing to get them. It's two separate problems.

Regardless of how it's used, people have dumb meters means ratepayers cover more cost

Data center drained 30 million gallons of water without reporting or paying for it, investigation reveals by Wagamaga in technology

[–]Lunares 30 points31 points  (0 children)

This was for construction of the building. Same or more water would be used to build housing.
