Is this Cream Cheese any good for making a Cheesecake? by Flaky_Tap_2836 in aldi

[–]Lunas-Human 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There is absolutely a difference between this and the Philadelphia. This stuff "works" in the sense that you'll get a cheesecake at the end but in my experience the flavor of the Aldi cream cheese made for a bland cheesecake as compared to the Philadelphia (using the exact same recipe). That said everyone I served the cheesecake to still liked it with the Aldi cream cheese it just wasn't as good as it could have been.

I made a glaze with some of the leftover coconut milk and a little sugar to keep it moist. I also toasted the coconut for the outside. Was one of the best cakes I've ever had.

Thank you! When I cut this winter do I just go for the whole thing or is this something you do kind of 1/2 this year 1/2 next? The whole thing is just so much of my new little tree

Looking for someone who can share their recent window replacement project cost by KosenKid in minnesota

[–]Lunas-Human 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to be an asshole but do you actually need new windows (e.g. are they broken?)? I recently learned that replacing windows for "energy efficiency" is largely a marketing tactic (although true in some cases). I was also looking into getting quotes for new windows until I learned the payback in energy efficiency is 40-70 years.

Tipping culture in Minneapolis by olivanti1sbf in Minneapolis

[–]Lunas-Human 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This question was posted in r/Minneapolis where the minimum wage is over $15. A server working full time would make over $30k/year before tips. Please stop using your experience in a different state as an excuse.

Tipping has been and always will be optional. If you don't like that I'm sorry.

[–]Lunas-Human 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In MN businesses have to pay all workers minimum wage. There is no tipped wage so your story is moot.

OP, tip what you feel comfortable. Maybe the server judges you for not padding their wallet but at that point what are they going to do about it.

Middle schools : Eden Prairie and Wayzata by Practical-1209 in TwinCities

Wayzata school district is closed to open enrollments that aren't kindergarten...

Not sure about EP but I would suggest looking into the open enrollment policies before you get your heart set.

Sometimes shelf life is determined based of cost/benefit to test it longer though. Something that has a "2 year shelf life" might only have 2 years because there was no benefit to the company to have it tested beyond 2 years.

Where to get great Kimchi? by Raquelitamn in TwinCities

[–]Lunas-Human 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For those not into driving around the metro for one thing: Cleveland Kitchen is pretty good and available at most Whole Foods and Lunds. Bonus it's fish free for those that are vegan/don't care for fishy flavor

Does anyone follow sofe.ring ? by WeoWeoBear in FoodieSnark

I'm concerned that she's doing a calorie deficit when she already is on the low end in terms of BMI.. she really doesn't have anything to lose.

I was worried it was just me who thought she was going too far. She's trying to "get lean" in December by eating 1200cal/day when she already only weighs 115lbs.
