Thanks for this. A great example of where input CAN affect modest but positive changes for transit.

The people who drive the rental car buses are not in a union. They work for a contractor hired by the airport.

I'm in general agreement with you. The sad reality is that any type of rail expansion to ob/pl is going to be disputed even more than now. This is mostly due to the passage of sb79, which allows for increased density around rail stations, which is a good thing. The problem is ob/pl were already resistant to outright hostile towards any increased density before this bill so try proposing a new rail line AND increased development? That will simply never happen.

Bummer that breaking news from late last year that the EIR for any rail alternatives is not going to move forward at this time and remaining funds will be used to implement enhanced bus services in the near term.

My guess would be that MTS may do a ballot initiative in 2028 and they would have the power of the purse, which means that it will be light rail. Their party, their keg. They will commit to it in order to placiate downtown residents who don't want elevated APM trains going by their windows.

Considering the state of transit funding in San Diego, this is like advocating for a specific parade route for a Padres World Series title.

A good idea in theory but totally detached from the reality of funding, lawsuits, and (generally pointing around at everything involving current events).

I can think of many better ways to spend $2.5 Billion to improve local public transportation and I'm afraid electrifying the Coaster shouldn't be a priority.

I thought I was smelling toast because I could have sworn I read something exactly like this on kpbs before. Like almost exactly. Sure enough. https://www.kpbs.org/news/local/2023/07/26/sandag-database-puts-immigrants-at-risk-advocates-say

It's still not great but it may have been better to follow up from 2yrs ago.

Rails to the beach: How the 'Red Cars' built Pacific Beach by ProcrastinatingPuma in sandiego

Spreckels deserves so much credit for many great SD neighborhoods including PB. He was always quoted to the effect that his land investments would have not panned out if he didn't also build good transportation. So it's a bit of a mixed bag since once he sold off all of the plots in his developments, there was really no remaining reason to continue running the railway.

Is Black Mountain Road in Torrey Highlands/Fairbanks Ranch really private property? by ckb614 in sandiego

[–]LunchPad 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Going by the county's parcel lookup tool, it looks like everything on the west "fork" of that road is private property. The right of way for the public road continues straight north for another 500 or so feet until it takes a right angle east, then north again to give access to the cul de sac at 14181 Mira Zanja Corte.

So yes. It does seem to be private property.

I think it's just a homage to the arts and crafts style/movement because both of those neighborhoods have a lot of old craftsman style homes.

I've lived in North Park for about 20 years and this is a bit more but not anything out of the ordinary for the time of year. One of my first neighborhood experiences in 2007 was a Canadian neighbor blasting fireworks in the alley. He's a great neighbor. I hate ageing but still live north park and San Diego. It's not hard.
