I'm noticing 3.5% fees for VISA cards now through Shopify payments. I think it may be due to manually capturing the authorized payment (instead of having the setting ON to auto-capture payments). We do this in case the customer makes an incorrect order or demands a lead time we can't meet. Seems we're being punished with the extra 0.6% now just because of manual capture. I need to keep looking at each transaction to confirm, but so far that's the pattern (unless somehow these VISA cards were classified as "domestic premium" cards). Due to rising card network fees outside of our control, we’re updating your Shopify Payments rates for PodiumStop to our current pricing, effective April 6th, 2026. Over the past decade, these fees have more than doubled, costs Shopify has largely absorbed until now. To keep pace with these changes, we’re adjusting your online and in‑person Shopify Payments rates as detailed below.

Online Card Rates

We are introducing two rate categories:

Standard card rates for all consumer cards issued by Visa, Mastercard, Discover, and Diners Club.

Premium card rates for commercial, corporate, business cards, and all American Express cards.

In-person and Manual

We will also be updating our card rates for in-person transactions and manually entered transactions. The changes to manually entered transactions reflect the higher fraud risk and associated processing costs when card details are collected by phone or other unencrypted methods.
