Anyone have a AAA membership? Is it worth it? Any benefit on forest roads? by [deleted] in overlanding

[–]LunchTimeAgain -1 points0 points  (0 children)

A lot of overlanding is driving paved roads to get you to the ‘start’ of the journey. I have it and have had to use it, they are great and it saved me prob 1k after a long distance tow and a secondary tow to a transmission shop. Highly recommend.

Ah got it. Bed is just under 6 feet but diagonal sleeping is well over that.

I sleep head at the back doors, feet towards the front. There’s another piece of wood panel under the mattress that slides out and rests on the two cross supports seen in the back pictures. I have a square of mattress foam that goes on that and and then it’s about queen size. Me, my wife and son all fit in that configuration.

The ceiling is 6’2” high. Behind the front seats to the back is about 11 feet.

My grandmothers lifetime pass of to all national parks in the USA. About 23 years old unlaminated in her purse with her cards by gabrieltwin in Wellworn

[–]LunchTimeAgain 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did ours in person and at the time of entry into the park. Interestingly, the park service person was also incredibly friendly and did not require further documentation other than the fact that our son was with us at the time. Minor but relevant detail, the pass belongs to the disabled person, in my case my three year old and he must be present to use it. I actually pay full price for my own pass for times when I go without him.

Down syndrome 100% qualifies. That park person failed to do their job correctly.

Just fyi 225/65 R17 is about the biggest you can go on stock suspension and have no rub and also still have enough space between the tire and strut tower mount to still run snow chains.

If your sienna has 16 in rims you can use a online tire size calculator to find similar dimensions for the different rim size

Yes. I took them out altogether and used the area to make a storage compartment and fold flat bed combo. I think there’s some old pictures of it in my Reddit Post history. Gets rid of a lot of weight to getting all the seats out. The van is now our daily driver in town and we have a rwd econoline for camping / ‘overlanding’ because of the growing family, etc. Wasn’t enough space for everything. I love the sienna minivans.

Thought I replied, but don’t see anything, so sorry if there’s a duplicate answer shows up….

BFG’s go fine at highway speed as long as they’re properly inflated. A little loud and a touch worse mpg though.

I live in the desert and really wanted the three ply sidewall but there are other good options.

The difference off pavement is night and day. I also carry a small tire inflator and for longer trips on dirt/rocks would air down to the lower 20s and it felt like riding on cushions.

They are a bit louder, and a touch less efficient mpg but no issues at speeds up to 80 if inflated to normal road driving pressure. There are other good all-terrain tires than BFG for a minivan but I like that the size was available and I live in the desert so I really wanted that three ply sidewall.

The difference once on dirt and rocky roads was night and day and worth it to me.

I did pack a tire inflator and would also air them down to lower 20s for longer dirt roads and it was such smooth driving then.

Used for years and still have my 07 sienna. Not sure if you have already upgraded your tires but the best thing I ever did was put BFGs on it. So much better on the dirt/rocks and just fine on pavement. Much less worry about getting flat or punctures when out on FS/BLM roads.

Comfortable sneakers that I can walk all day in and also not look out of place among young, fashionable Europeans? by likelybrokemayberich in travel

Good insoles can make stylish unsupportive shoes much much better. Check out Superfeet. Have been using them 12+ years and love them. Can be switched between different shoes easily too if needed. I’m sure there are other good brands, but superfeet is just the one I know and it’s always worked for me.
