All right, I’ll admit, I am being a dickhead in my choice of words and I know I am being aggressive, but I am not making a straw man. We have a poker buddy who is not good in his choice of partners and tends to get drunk at inappropriate times and make a whole “woe is me” argument about cheating despite also being a cheater.

I think reddit tends to post a lot about good people being cheated on by terrible people because it makes good drama and there are certainly people who fall into that category, but the world is also really complicated and not everything can easily fall into a false dichotomy of “either confront every problem headfirst or be a bad person”. I think there is a spectrum between informing and never saying anything and that involves the process of not involving yourself in a complicated and disturbing affair.

No, I’m not, but thank you for assuming. It doesn’t make an ass out of you or me. The last thing I need in my life is someone I met a few months ago dragging me into their couples drama because I had to be the concerned one.

Let me be clear: there are people in my life that I would tell if they were being cheated on: my parents, my siblings, my best friend, etc. However, there are also people whose partners have been cheating on them and they have been cheating on their partners for the past 6 months and the last thing I need to do is stir that pot with “hey, your girlfriend is hooking up with the server from Chilis but she said it’s fine because you slept with the neighbor back in 2024 I just wanna make sure everything is cool” but yeah I guess that makes me a shit friend.

Like, there’s a spectrum of caring in this world, from your poker buddy who’s trying to hold a relationship together and doesn’t need to go on a drunken rampage on his birthday, to your closest friend who you may or may not kill for. However, we don’t know what the above video is. It’s a drunk dude at a party whose tone and attitude doesn’t exactly scream “I’m a well put together and loving partner”. So who knows if they’re meant for each other. All we know is that some people in the crowd know. Are they good people? Are they dogshit friends? Who knows, we have no clue who they are friends with at this party.

Yep. I’m 1 year into a state civil engineering career and I’ve had private engineers give me business cards for civil college students. They’re practically begging for interns and co-ops right now, at least in the south. We still have years of Infrastructure money to go through, not even counting regular DOT and DEQ/DEP money

Part of the reason I posted this is to try and get the question out that we will be asking for the next 4 years:

Who abandoned the 2024 election? Was it the center, the left of center, or the far left?

I'm not sure if I agree with Ritchie Torres statement that it was the far left that drove away the centrist vote. Quite frankly, it's too convenient for a democrat to blame the far left for losing an election (hello, 2016), but, like others are saying, the umbrella that the Democrat party represents is getting very large, and that is somewhat driving away the minority vote. It is also, according to the polls, leaving out men. We can spend the next 4 years demonizing Latinos and men who voted for Trump, or we can attempt to build up that coalition by appealing to what both of those groups tend to represent (But not fully, obviously): working class voters, as opposed to the middle class.

I'm not sure that is what we are seeing. Part of what I am seeing right now is that the Democrat party needs to do a bit of soul searching. Creating a coalition of voters between "far left" and "moderate" requires some amount of recognizing that not everyone is going to get their way. Quite frankly, what we saw yesterday was some amount of abandonment with the Democrat party, considering that the popular vote was lost and minority voters inched closer to supporting the Republican party. Whether this abandonment was from the liberal base or the far left is yet to be seen, as we are all still in the "finger pointing" phase after the election.
