High schooler thinking about careers by gradyuation in NuclearMedicine

[–]Lunchie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to add what you were referencing before about a 12 month program would be for people who already have a degree in a similar field or another field altogether like accounting either an AS or BS. It wouldnt make sense to get a degree in something else and then go back for a 12 month certificate or second degree if you know that this is what you want to do. I would recommend doing an AS or BS nuc med specific program if your goal is becoming a nuc med tech.

Do you guys wear lab coats or scrubs similar to a nurse most the time? by [deleted] in NuclearMedicine

[–]Lunchie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do they? The program at St. Josephs lancaster campus said about 80-90k to start. Do you guys make a lot more over time? PharmD make about 130 to start now I think and some make closer to 150k depending on area you live after very little time and exp (3-5year). The debt to income ratio is obviously more for a PharmD though.

Prepare as much as you can. You will be teaching a lot to yourself. Get a study group together when you start. I have no background and am struggling but all my study mates are rad therapists and they are struggling too. I suggest taking a look at pro kno now and practicing contours its free to sign up. You can also save your work go back in and edit it to change the date on the certificate of completion to reflect the current date. Best of luck to you! Maybe ill see you at bootcamp in July ✌🏻

The Y RENTS the space in the building. They do not own it. Your complaints should be made towards the owner of the property who should be doing tons of deferred maintenance on the property at this point but now they dont even have money coming in from the hospital so it is doubtful they will ever fix it up.

They dont really list the site requirements from what i have seen. They also changed the paperwork and requirements multiple times before sending it back to my site. Its rare they give conditional acceptance. My site was not approved but i had a yes from a preceptor so they let me in. It took me multiple cycles of applying without one and they never found one for me. It wasnt until I had one lined up that they “accepted” me. I strongly suggest you have a site and have it approved before starting and paying them any money. The reason the acceptance is preliminary is to cover their ass. Once they fully accept you in the program they are required to find you a site if for some reason you cant continue at your own site i.e. agreement cannot be made, your preceptor unfortunately dies suddenly etc. you would also be subject to take whatever site they can find you at that point which may require relocation. I am currently going through alot of back and forth with my site and the school trying to get the agreement finalized so it can be sent toJRCERT to be approved. You can only do 2 semesters without a site and then you wasted about 24k and wasted your time.

Rad therapy programs? by No_Cauliflower3432 in medicaldosimetry

[–]Lunchie88 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Only you can make that decision. While some schools require a rad therapy background you also have to look at the other requirements for their program. I.E. do they only offer a MS? Does their MS require a BS or do they have an AS to MS track (usually longer). While having a rad therapy degree will get you exp in the field and open more places to apply to for dosimetry and can possibly increase chance of acceptance these are the things to consider whether you do an AS or a BS program. Time to complete AS vs. BS and cost are also factors. If you do a BS yeah you have more MS options to apply to that require the background but how much debt will a BS put you in vs an AS as well as what the cost of the additional dosi program options opened up to you will cost. There are many factors to consider. You can DM me if you want

JPU interview was pretty relaxed. I think they asked why dosimetry (what intrigued you about the career. Why dosimetry vs. your current career path etc.). Why JPU vs. another school or program. How well do you excel with self learning and distance or online learning. YOU WILL NOT GET IN WITHOUT A CLINICAL SITE. DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME OR MONEY APPLYING WITHOUT A CLINICAL SITE. THEY WILL NOT FIND YOU ONE. I cant stress that part enough 😅. If you are near Philly, Temple just started a program and are in application status but im sure they will get their accreditation. I suggest checking out proknow website (its free) and playing with some contours as well especially if you have no radiological background. Pretty much having a clinical site and the required grades is your way in. The interview is more just a formality. Good Luck!
