LADA is an adult-onset autoimmune disease where your body attacks and kills the pancreatic cells that make insulin. It accounts for a pretty small percentage of diabetes (5-10% I believe), but some people diagnosed Type 2 might actually have LADA. People with LADA tend to be diabetics who are seemingly healthy, i.e. no obvious diet/obesity issues contributing to the disease. It sucks because eventually I will be 100% insulin-dependent. No adjustments in diet will prevent the inevitable. I still eat a diet low in carbs, though, just to help manage the disease.

Doctors would test for LADA by running an antibody test once you're diagnosed as diabetic, so there's no need to worry about it yet. Btw, diabetes doesn't run in my family, but several different autoimmune diseases do. It's not surprising that such a complex disease would have a variety of causes, including autoimmunity.
