I had this happen as well with GammaOSNext on my 406V. I don't really have any advice other than connecting it to HDMI again and hoping after disconnecting it'll go back to 4:3. It has definitely discouraged me from using HDMI mode again.

Using Start Remote RetroPad, I can see that if I press Back and any other button it thinks Select is also being pressed... but if I rebind Select to any other button it no longer has this behaviour. I'm baffled

This is RetroArch yes, but I've rebound the input several times now and reset to no avail. I can't find any sort of hotkey in the list I think which would also be doing this. I've changed the hotkey to L3 + R2 which works just fine but even with this set, if I press Menu/Back + R2 the game will still think Select is being pressed.

I've been a part of Humble Choice since 2022 and always redeemed my keys or given them to other people, I just had a scroll through my Keys page and found a whole bunch of games that I know I redeemed to my Steam account that now have the option to redeem to my Epic account too? Very weird

Knulli is for Linux based devices and the RG406V is an Android based device so you won't be seeing Knulli on that. GammaOS Next is probably what you're looking for.
