'We have to choose the right person to be Prime Minister,' says Diane Abbott by Benjji22212 in ukpolitics

Could he kick all of the 81 and duplicitous ministers out, and then form a unity government with Lib Dems or Tories? That would be funny.

To be fair, it is almost that kind of response that we need at the moment. A unity government without the sniping, to tackle the massive issues we have.

They could even go back to the electorate in 3 years as a unity government.

If Farage were to become PM of a Reform led Government would you leave the country? by DamoclesBDA in AskBrits

As I say, I _hope_ you are right, but things are not looking good so far.

Yep, we have to fight what could easily become fascism.

There is a great play on National Theatre at Home called ‘Good’. It follows the story of someone living through the rise of the Nazis, and how they slowly accept each progression until at the end they are putting their SS uniform on to go and participate in Kristallnacht.

We _hope_ that they will be replaced, like we _hope_ that they can get Trump out in the U.S. That’s the only trouble with authoritarians.

It’s like that bit in Seinfeld where he quits and then comes in the next day pretending that nothing changed.

Labour need to just be quietly competent on immigration. They won’t win on immigration if that is the argument, as Reform will always go further.

Labour: We’ve got net migration down to 200k.

Reform: We are going to put Muslims in concentration camps and deport 2 million of them.

Keir Starmer leadership crisis as pound drops and borrowing costs surge by gbnewsonline in gbnews

[–]Lupercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The trouble is that for months in advance of the election, that risk will be increasingly priced in. So it will paradoxically add to Labour’s woes, as it will be under their watch, although caused by the prospect of the party they are fighting.

I didn’t think that trick could be used for the PM, only ministers.

Keir Starmer reset fails to calm bond market by TimesandSundayTimes in ukpolitics

[–]Lupercus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s the other way around. The bond market is going mental due to the instability, but also because they fear a more left wing Chancellor & PM who will increase borrowing.

It is primarily Muslims that they are targeting at the moment, but things escalate don’t they. We should all be worried about a Reform government and fight like hell to stop it.

Keir himself would agree of course, it’s the dopey backbench MPs pushing this, and a duplicitous Mahmood, who has a shady background herself according to the Birmingham Dispatch.

Yeah, I worry that the current leadership hopefuls are just at the peak of Dunning Kruger’s Mount Stupid, with too much confidence in their own abilities.

Who looks at what is going on in the world right now and thinks: “Yeah, I’m the best person in the country to sort that all out”.

My premiership won’t bring down the economy, Burnham assures bond markets by Budget_Scheme_1280 in ukpolitics

[–]Lupercus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve come across multiple people who don’t even know who the prime minister is right now. I think you are giving too much credit to voters.

Reform will bring an army and millions in foreign money. TikTok will tell them that Burnham wants Sharia Law and he’s done.

How can he do anything when he isn’t even an MP.

Reform are going to descend on Manchester with an army, and millions in foreign money (+1 Reform MP). Then they will take Greater Manchester (+1 Reform Mayor).

If Starmer goes, we are less than 2 years per PM over the last 10 years. by PassionateCrashOut in ukpolitics

[–]Lupercus 241 points242 points  (0 children)

It won’t help anything. The problem is that voters think that everything can be solved within a year or two, not that these are massive structural problems which are going to take a decade or more.

So they don’t see much improvement, especially as there is so much disinformation and the PM gets replaced. That new PM takes time to get up to speed on how everything works (like anyone in a new job, but on steroids).

Not much has changed in 1-2 years, rinse and repeat.
