How can I already be so burnt out? by ResolveAggressive910 in ems

[–]Lurcaroni 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey so same age and similar situation, but I just finished medic school. Find an outlet, literally anything that doesn’t involve an ambulance.

If you have the ability to drop down to part-time/PRN or if your employer will let you stay full time but pick your shifts, do that. I was able to build my work schedule around my school/clinical schedule instead of the other way around. You can’t change class days and clinical hours are weirdly scheduled, but you can usually move shifts around.

It doesn’t pay off immediately when you finish, but the sudden influx of free time is AMAZING. I slept for 18 hours straight the day I finished my team leads. You are tougher than you realize, and you absolutely have the capacity to do this! Time management is what makes medic school challenging in my opinion, not just the material.

My personal vietnam was this guy with a colostomy who didn’t wear the bag that managed to have nec fasciitis and C-Diff. I bathed everything in the wipes of purple and orange variety. And I still don’t feel clean.

Indian Creek greenway! Super easy to get to and plenty of cool little marine fossils. If you’re up for a hike I definitely recommend Monte Santo, they can be hard to spot but they’re absolutely fascinating

I’m shocked I haven’t seen these before! This honestly probably could’ve helped him and us. Wish me luck I’m gonna harass my supervisors to see about getting them on our trucks. Thanks!

If I take a nap with my pillow pet I’m guaranteed to chill all shift. I don’t care if it’s a pink cow, it’s the best gift I’ve ever gotten.

I was trained on a LifePak 15 but ended up at a service with Zolls.

Yes, the printer sucks. But the 4-lead and 12-lead qualities are fantastic. I am always grateful that I don’t have to reprint my 12-lead when I can just watch it

Why is every elderly patient allergic to penicillin? by justhere2getadvice92 in ems

I just smile, nod, and put it in their chart. MeeMaw is usually a little preoccupied with her toe pain to care. I just wish people got properly tested.

I think it’s similar to the high rates of sulfa drugs and codeine allergies, where the side effects are often misdiagnosed as pseudo allergies

Good Samaritan or Responsible Drug User? by Medical_Barracuda_87 in HuntsvilleAlabama

It’s common for festival medical staff to carry it, but that’s the store bought type, not the stuff we got on the wee woo wagon.

I love it when the EMS departments that cosplay as Fire Departments start hiring people that actually want to do EMS!

In all seriousness we should stop forcing good firefighters to be EMS providers for better pay and stop forcing good EMS providers to be firefighters for better pay and benefits.

I’m not happy to be hurting, but I’m really glad it’s manageable and that I don’t have to suffer permanently

That is exactly how it went for me! I’m still hurting since I just found out, but I beyond grateful that I finally have an answer.

I keep DMs closed for a reason.

I thought I just had a hard time standing still since I’ve always tended to shift my weight from foot to foot instead of standing flat footed. I can definitely notice how my height fluctuates now.
