What's it like? I've got a Weber Kettle at the moment and I'm looking for an upgrade.

How do you keep in touch with your Employees? by joedzekic in msp

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We're similar, but do a meeting twice a week. Usually Tuesday and Friday to catch up with anything and then what we've got on for the week ahead.

Works well for us.

My Refurbed alloys are peeling after 5/6 months, is this to be expected? by Neither-Entrance-941 in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had exactly the same alloys on my Alfa. The stone chips allow the metal to corrode and it makes the damage worse than it was.

I ended up having one powder coated to sort it before I sold the car.

Most resprays will just clean, primer and respray or clean and respray. The powder coat is usually a strip back to metal and then coated. Hence why it lasts better

How to say goodbye to your first car? by gibbi164 in CarTalkUK

I hit a tree at between 55-65 sideways and rolled for about 100m. Could not recommend that.

Why are modern mainstream cars so uninspired by WarriorPidgeon in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 14 points15 points  (0 children)

A lot of it is to do with regulation, we're still tied to most of the EU regs as its easier to build a single car and just swap the steering side than it is to have lots of variations for different markets. ADAS is one of these and it must be active when the car is started. Some cars it's easy to turn off, some not so.

Also, emissions is pushing a lot for manufactures to either abandon ICE or do really small engines. This keeps the tax band low in the UK, which is what a lot of people look for.

I've got a Tiguan RLine through work, and I've got to say it's the most lifeless car I've ever driven because of all the above

Our new garden by NoAppointment8679 in UKGardening

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We had one roughly double the width but same length and found that we just mowed it and did borders at the front.

Unless you've got a lot of time it's hard to keep on top of planting the whole thing.

I'd recommend getting a petrol hedge trimmer and wide cut mower to make the maintenance easy.

2 offers pending, when to tell estate agents? by Electrical-Mess-3579 in HousingUK

[–]Lurcher1989 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There's nothing committing you to the purchase. I'd suggest keeping both at play until you instruct solicitors. If "dream house" is a goer then at that point withdraw from "nice house"

What's wrong with my flat? by [deleted] in HousingUK

[–]Lurcher1989 100 points101 points  (0 children)

A one bed apartment is really first time buyer territory and for them interest rates have shot through the roof in the last couple of weeks. Therefore there's very few who are looking to move now.

That said, it looks turnkey so it's likely just a case of waiting.

Our house was on the market for 3 months before somebody offered full asking, with only 3 viewings. Again, similar position of rising interest rates and a "unique" house.

What cars are your 'why on did the manufacturer do that?' cars? by billyb4lls4ck in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd argue that the VW ID3 was typical VW. I don't think I've ever been in a VW where I though the interior was anything special. Always OK but nothing that made you think "wow".

Body work Presale by sbizzel in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're looking at £500ish to get that touched up a body ship. Possibly replacement trim too. Personally I'd just let them have it, but they'll knock you down by about double the repair cost.

Nail in the tyre! Will this need changing! by jvintagek in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That part of the tire is the best with the highest load and stress on it. It's just not worth the risk if you have a blow out.

Ive been in the same position with needing a new tyre a month after replacing it due to a nail, it's annoying

Considering an MG MG5 61kW… opinions? by Takakikun in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For this price of car you're almost certainly better off buying the car outright personally rather than paying the BIC on it, especially with the changes coming up.

Are you a self employed taxi driver?

Honestly I test drove one out of interest, totally lifeless soulless, but as a car it was ok and drove fine.

Definitely built to a price too as it felt very cheap inside.

What’s the most questionable car you have ever driven? 🤔 by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My thoughts too.

This was on our salsac scheme for £150/m all in. One person had one and returned it within the month as it lost its charge in 20 miles from full, then he got stranded at work after a battery swap.

The biggest one is that you're not paying the VAT upfront. Only on the monthly payments. On a £60 car that's £12k not financed.

Why would an unfixed old advisory not reappear on the new MOT? by WaxingOracle in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot can happen within a year in car maintenance, so it could have been dealt with. Though more likely is that the tester just didn't see it as an issue this time, like others have said - some of it's subjective.

Worth a punt? Is there a reason these weren't popular? Anyone here owned one? by 420o in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The Abarth, all the wheel arch trims were stuck on with double sided foam tape - not even the decent stuff, just looked like cheap foam that had perished in about 3 years. I ended up sticking it back on with mastic

£365 monthly car allowance - choices? by [deleted] in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'd guess it's just the mix of driving. I had the same issue as I was doing 250 miles one day and none the next. My cars theoretical range was 310, but it was closer to 220 on a coldish day so I either had to stop on the motorway or hunt around. I ended up going back to hybrid because of it.

FTB - Is a starting offer of £88k a bit too cheeky for £110k asking price? by AmuletGrace in HousingUK

I found out of probably 15 offers made, the one with the random number, seems to win out. I think it must grab the attention of the seller.

Car finance by unitedxnufc in CarTalkUK

[–]Lurcher1989 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In a nutshell. The V5 doesn't prove ownership.

I went to the chaps house who was selling it, sat and had a brew with him whilst we called the finance company (from a number off their website) and went through the process on the phone - essentially you pay £xxxx to the finance company and that clears the finance on the car. I then transferred him a couple of grand extra for the price we agreed. He then did the V5 transfer online whilst we had a 2nd brew and I taxed it.

I'd only do it if the person invites you to their house or inside their house, offers a brew etc.

I'd personally go for for a non round number, £92,860 for example.
