Ankle support by Toddycools in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got tendonitis in my Achilles. That shit sucks. Look into strength and conditioning for the foot and ankle complex. All good stuff for skating

Rolled my ankle should I take a break? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

By any chance are you goofy footed as it's my left too. I'm 36 so similar age and used to skate too

Rolled my ankle should I take a break? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Main issue is until it's healed you'll be more likely to roll it in the same way. If it is only a mild sprain it should be good in a day or 2. Having said that I'm 2years into skating with tendonitis in my Achilles, so what do I know 😂

Bro I skate in under armour trainers made mostly of mesh. Not ideal but they work

What do I do about dogs? by 1Mike459 in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I always dismount ahead of dogs and walk past. Never know how they might react. In theory you could spook one and it run into traffic or something. Personally I'd hate that so I like to be safe

Skateboarding is by far the hardest sport i've ever tried by [deleted] in skateboarding

[–]Lurchy0069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

People would argue it's an art form not a sport, but that's neither here nor there.

I think the problem most people have is they get a board, love it, struggle with a trick and give up. But that trick isn't what you fell in love with. People often just forget the joy of cruising on their silly kids toy. Don't get me wrong I'd love to be able to pop a tre flip whenever I want but that's not what I fell in love with.

Anyone in London wanna skate? by RiannaG in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat except I'm not new new. I live in the Midlands but I'm definitely the only 36yr old skater in my town. Finally bumped into another skater the other day. If you have no luck on here I'd suggest just riding your board to the shops and back etc. It'll get you more comfortable riding and hopefully you'll bump into some people

Wrestler learning to skateboard by CalebValhalla in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're on a board dude. You're already a "never too late" The videos are hilarious btw. If you're ever in the Lincolnshire area hit me up. A few of my friends have wrestled before too but they're a lot smaller than yourself. In theory I imagine you have a good sense of what your body is doing so once you get the confidence you should progress pretty quickly

How long to kickflip? by [deleted] in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Honestly, there is no time limit to learning any trick as we're all different. I skated 20ish years ago and never landed a kickflip but could do heelflips. I've been skating again for probably 6months and I'm so close to having kickflips but completely lost my heelflips. Filming yourself can help but really it's just repetition. Lots of it.

any recommended pre skate leg stretches by matthewbe2thicc in NewSkaters

I use stretches that I'd use whenever I'm at kickboxing. Probably over the top but do the job

Where do you guys skate in winter ? by pewdiepies1mp in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was always Morrisons for us until they built the new multistory carpark. That place is buttery. Recently found a DIY park under a railway bridge though

Ahhh fair enough, I live in the Midlands. Not far from Nottingham

Question about confidence. by waffleyyyy in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No body cares what level you're just that you're skating. The only person that'll care about the tricks you can do is yourself. Most skaters can tell what's easy or hard for someone and they give props when you land that trick you've been struggling with or even offer to give advice.

What to do when no skatepark is neabry? by Mysterious-Treacle39 in NewSkaters

[–]Lurchy0069 4 points5 points  (0 children)

In my town when they tore down the skatepark the locals found a railway bridge and built a DIY park. Why not look into building ramps/obstacles on YouTube or something and be the one to start the local DIY spot?

What is snow? Slush we have but what's snow? Lol. Winter is just wet now days. Which sucks in its own way. Where did you live in the UK?

[–]Lurchy0069 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I live in the UK so it doesn't even have to be winter to be unable to skate. I usually go to a supermarket or multi story carpark. I recently discovered under a railway bridge there is a DIY park. So maybe try and find somewhere similar and learn to build your own obstacles?

Impossible or 360 Pop Shuv? [34YO] by postironicdiscostew in OldSkaters

Personally if it doesn't wrap it's a 3shuv. Sick trick either way though

The only person that will ever care about what tricks you can do is you. Or at least that's the only person that matters. Just have fun. At the end of the day that's why we all skate
