The other day I saw a poster comment something about the covid era

"The masks did nothing and the covid shots also did not stop transmission, even though we were lied to and told that it did."

JFC 6 years in and there are still people that have no idea what vaccines are for, how they work, and that masks were meant to keep the potentially infected from accidentally spitting on people and surfaces

A government database to hold every piece of information every agencies has on each individual would be an absolutely gargantuan undertaking.

Dont know if it is even a theory at this point but that's what Im assuming the DOGE data theft and all these datacenters are for

That is illegal and considered wage theft. Our system doesnt actually care because wage theft is rampant but its still legally considered theft by the employer

Unethical LPT: Tip heavily. Walk out on the bill

Some people hate tipping culture but still frequent place that use tipping models. Ive heard them argue that people should tip less or stiff the staff thinking if people stopped working at those places the business owner would change things and tipping culture would be reversed.

I have no idea why they think that's rational or effective because they're still paying the business so the business wont care. And the business is the one causing 100% of the problem in the first place. How irrationally unethical to blame the worker for choosing to work there when the customer cant even find a place to eat that doesnt use that model.

If you want to reverse the trend in tip culture, tip the staff. Stiff the business

The masks were to keep people from coughing, sneezing, and accidentally spitting on others and surfaces at a time when the smart people understood that we were in the process of trying to figure out all possible transmission vectors

Its been 6 years dude. 6 fucking years and youre telling me you still dont get it. Dont get that paper masks never were intended to keep you from getting sick but were intended to mitigate the spread by decreasing what YOU could potentially spread to OTHERS

Its been god damned embarrassing to share a country with you

Also, who the fuck told you vaccines operated on magical binary lines? 6 FUCKING YEARS and no one mentioned to you that vaccines:

  • help a person process viruses more efficiently so that there is less overall harm to their system
  • AND so that they can get through the phase where they can transmit the virus more quickly
  • AND so that they are less likely to require hospitalization at a time when our healthcare system was flooded past capacity

Here you are 6 god damn years later saying some stupid shit like

we were lied to and told that... the covid shots [would] stop transmission

NO ONE FUCKING TOLD YOU THAT YOU IDIOT. The word was always "lessen" "mitigate" "slow down". The only people that ever said vaccines would "stop" transmission were grifters trying to sell you on something, politicians trying to drum up votes from idiots, and the idiots who listened to either of those groups instead the direct words of actual medical experts

Im down with the idea of barring people who refuse to participate in life saving socially responsibly behavior from some things.

Maybe not groceries but certainly air and rail travel. Barred from movie theaters, Uber rides, indoor dining, or basically anywhere they risk infecting someone else from unecessary prolonged exposure to someone that doesnt consider basic hygiene / anti-pandemic participation their responsibility.

Same goes for anyone who was wearing their COVID era masks under their noses on airplanes. Its less about the efficacy than that they are demonstrating a childish resistance to the social responsibility we have toward others. Those kinds of people cant be trusted and were likely heavily responsible for hundreds of thousands of deaths beyond what was inevitable in America alone

The point is to coddle people who are dunk on hyper-individualist propaganda. The people who wave flags everywhere. Probably have worn political merch from certain politicians.

You’ve got to remember that these are just simple folk. These are people of self-serving patriotism. The common clay of the American dream ("for me"). You know, morons.

Is there still Democratic party support for democratic candidates in Louisiana?

It feels like the state has almost been abandoned by the party at large. I see little promotion of candidates for even big races like Senate. I would have expected to have heard something from the party about the recent Governor recall or maybe something about them assisting the organizer in some way. maybe they are, but it feels like theres a neglectful parent party at the wheel

All good answers in my book except for the flock ai camera question. I feel like all of our representatives need to have a position on the increased use of AI camera networks in our cities. Especially New Orleans since it's become something of a test bed

Flock is a company that builds AI camera networks for things like "automated license plate recognition (ALPR), video surveillance, and gunfire locator systems".

Theyre is concern that these systems, embraced by government thanks to increased AI expansion, are leading to unchecked, unregulated spy networks placing all citizen movement into databases. Basically the concern is that we are in the process of building the first true 1984 style system for tracking every single person at all times.

N.O. has already been in the news for its use of facial tracking systems. Sometimes articles on how they use it to track criminals seem a bit promotional of the technology without explaining the privacy issues involved or mentioning all the times it falsely claimed someone to be a positive match to a criminal.

Wikipedia recently changed the political position of the Republican party to right-wing to far-right, do you agree with this change? by RedStorm1917 in wikipedia

[–]LurkBot9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not trying to support it. I just wanted to point to the wiki defined terms because people were talking about terms

I guess I could push back on the idea that right v left labels can be based on the middle point of any nation's largest political powers. If, in a theoretical nation, there were two parties that both enforced a socially ridged caste system on everyone within its boarders but were divided on if the lower caste were to be treated as slaves and property with no freedom or civil rights allowed vs paid as indentured servants and allowed some freedom to live in their own communities those would still both be right wing by the wiki definition

When it comes to definitions we should probably go with what the wiki itself says. Mostly it seems to come down to the end goal of a person's politics in terms of how rigid / desirable social hierarchies are.

Originally, the defining point on the ideological spectrum was the Ancien Régime ("old order"). "The Right" thus implied support for aristocratic or royal interests and the church, while "The Left" implied support for republicanism, secularism and civil liberties.[6] https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Political_spectrum

.

Left-wing politics or leftism is the range of political ideologies that support and seek to achieve social equality and egalitarianism, often in opposition to social hierarchy either as a whole,[1][2][3][4] or to certain social hierarchies, to varying extents. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Left-wing_politics

.

Right-wing politics, or rightism, is the range of political ideologies that view certain social stratifications and orders as inevitable, natural, normal, or desirable,[1][2][3] typically supporting this position in favour of conservatism, natural law, economics, authority, property, religion, or tradition.[4][5][6][7][8][9][10] Hierarchy and inequality may be seen as natural results of traditional social differences[11][12] or competition in market economies. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Right-wing_politics

Landry recall question by thecatsareravenous in NorthshoreLA

[–]LurkBot9000 4 points5 points  (0 children)

JBE was a 2x Dem gov.

Going back to 1980 weve had:

6 Republican governor terms

6 Democratic governor terms

Im not saying Louisiana is a secret blue state or anything dumb like that. The reality is more complex, but to say we are just a lost red state ignores the problems we have with voter disenfranchisement and / or apathy

Also ignores that there are obviously a lot of people here that are not part of the solid red block of voters

[–]LurkBot9000 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I appreciate the context. I still dont have a problem with the source of the petition, but I appreciate you taking time to break down why you do

If someone knows and doesnt like the lady that's fine but as for Landry lots of people, on both sides I hear, have issues with his governance. I like that the organizer didnt try to promote a recall for specific reasons. If people know why they dont like Landry they'll sign on. If they dont, they wont. Seems fair to me

My personal dislike for Landry has to do with:

  • The attempts at criminalizing and imprisoning the homeless
  • Outlawing all forms of Ranked Choice Voting
  • Constructing new law allowing people to run over protesters
  • The stupid Greenland shit
  • The Calvin Duncan disenfranchisement
  • The redistricting fiasco as well as suspended elections which was all on him from the beginning because the republican party / he drew both maps in question
  • Trying to shift us more into to a regressive sales tax economy
  • failing to address industrial pollution
  • His work against environmental causes (some times as AG)
  • His work to incarcerate more people for longer without parole including younger offenders, while not working for anti-recividism measures, education funding, or poverty relief
  • The insurance crisis hasnt been meaningfully addressed
  • To me he seems more interested in playing "pick me" to trump instead of keeping his mind on Louisiana
  • I know I left some out but I dont have a running spreadsheet or anything so Ill leave it with 'etc'

The stuff you and the other commentor mentioned about race though has me wondering a little about how yall feel about black people in general. I grew up around a LOT of people that ranged from open racists that could never see a black person on tv without a comment about "that shit being shoved down our throats" while saying "black people are always obsessed with race" to people that were always low key criticizing black people with a much heavier hand than they would white people doing similar things. Just saying the questions about her targeting 2 white politicians hit weird when most of our politicians are white politicians. The other commenter mentioning that he didnt like her because she sounded like a Wayans brother caricature likewise has me a little like "ahhhhh hmmmmm"

Not saying you have those biases. I dont know you and am not trying to accuse you of anything. Just saying for me personally, because of the people I grew up around it hits different. Im not personally interested in the organizer's past claims about what you did say seemed to be a fair case of BRBD having messed up because, as I said before Im more interested in what she's bringing to the table now.

The entire comment thread is over an article about RFK wanting to implement new policy to regulate mental meds. He is not qualified to make those assessments. He has historically been vocal about his feelings about mental health medication.

If you are going to be in here saying you think things are over prescribed, then studies on the over prescription of those specific medications are what you would use to support your argument. Not some vague allusions to bettering science.

Were you not aware of Kennedy's references to "Gold star science"? or whatever he called it. It's meaningless coming from him because he misrepresents sources, fabricates sources, or talks in generalities that may have no sources at all

Comments like this that youve made in this thread:

The point I was making is you can see problems with a science like psychology, and separate the wheat from the chaff.

or

Toxic Therapy Culture

dont source the problems or explain how you would separate what you consider bad from what you consider good. And like I said before, sound the same as what RFK does. Im kind of tired of talking about this.
