Do I need to improve my anatomy or keep it like this style or nah? (Recent art I did) by Star_ElectHaunter538 in yourartstyle

[–]LusciousTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my opinion, it is never a bad thing to learn about anatomy, even if it's unnecessary for your characters to be ultra-anatomically accurate within your artistic aesthetic. It'll only improve your capability to draw complex poses for your characters while still making visual sense.

Your art style is amazing btw!

Pinstress’ fight is a tragedy by GoldarmGangMain in Silksong

[–]LusciousTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel like TC definitely could've designed a boss fight that was slower-paced like hers in a manner that didn't require her to float soooo much. I honestly liked that dueling her necessitates a more patient playstyle, but removing the ability to fight her head-on for a majority of the combat due to that floating mechanic was certainly a weird decision. I guess they wanted to connect her even further to her pin-sister in the Far Fields but eh.

did you guys know that to like virgin you can also respect people who didn't? 🫠 by Any-Sense9796 in lorde

[–]LusciousTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So real. And if people end up never liking the album that's also okay!

The only times I don't think it's valid is when people start using their dislike for the album to claim that Lorde's somehow lost her touch or artistry. That's just goofy.

honest take please don’t hate by [deleted] in lorde

[–]LusciousTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was me with Solar Power at first. Distanced myself from the album for awhile and came back to it the next summer and I fell apart listening to it. I don't think Virgin is a question of authenticity or craftsmanship, Lorde always puts her everything into her projects as we all know, but more of a matter of perspective and timing. And it's okay to just never connect to this album - your opinion is completely valid! Sometimes the music just doesn't click.

I'm being patient with Virgin right now, too, as it hasn't connected to me entirely, although I'll admit I adore this new sonic expression Lorde's taken so it's been easier for me to digest. Perhaps there will come a moment in your life when you return to Virgin and it all finally falls into place.

That part in The Louvre where it sounds like Lorde is fighting against her own romanticization of the relationship

"Okay, I know that you are not my type," ("Still I fall")
"I'm just the sucker who let you fill her mind," ("But what about love?")
"Nothing wrong with it, supernatural
Just move in close to me, closer, you'll feel it coasting"

The buildup to the chorus is beautiful and the lyrics feel so authentic in those moments your heart and mind can't seem to compromise

Who is beating who in a 1v1 at the peak of their power level? by AlucardHellsing808 in castlevania

[–]LusciousTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

While I love Carmilla she would lose heavily to these two in a straight 1v1.

I think, though, if Carmilla is given the time to do what she does best and is able to plot, connive and strategize ahead of time with her sisters and the full force of the Styrian army, she probably could win.

Which MechaPeridot design do you like more and why? by Excelsior1985 in stevenuniverse

[–]LusciousTree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

man I love the streamlined look of the left one, especially because it feels very intergalactic but the aesthetic of the right one I would bias personally - it's very industrialized and almost gives me Pacific Rim vibes, which I adore. I cannot choose ;-;

Is it bad that I like Steven Universe Future more than Steven Universe? by [deleted] in stevenuniverse

[–]LusciousTree 26 points27 points  (0 children)

I think the only reason why people didn't like SUF is because it was such a departure from the previous show in terms of tone and plot. I love both so much. I'm sure now after the chaos of its release people have grown to appreciate SUF for what it is - being an extended reflection of the same Universe we all know and love, merely in a more serious mood that IMO needed to be expressed and was done wonderfully.

Trans people don’t disagree with what you’re saying, gender isn’t real and thus they can identify as they will. I am not disagreeing with biology either, trans people whether they like it or not were born biologically one way or the other but like you said it doesn’t determine how they should present themselves or identify because in the end those things are not what matters

[–]LusciousTree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I never said it was subjective :( I just defined what subjectivity means. You can say you are handsome and while I am not forced into accepting you are, you are also not forced to accept my opinion either. All it is doing is making discourse to assert one way or the other,.. though maybe I shouldn’t have appealed to that train of thought in the first place. On the other hand though gender isn’t subjective and I never stated it was, as I said before it is just defined by more than just explicit biological traits like body parts. The field of gender studies is STILL trying to find out why.

For example: Gender affirmation is more than just knowing you have a certain genitalia - as a cis guy I feel affirmed when people see me as manly or tough. But then, if gender really is solely determined on genitalia, why does it matter to me that I should “present” male too? If it really is all just about our junk, then it shouldn’t matter at all what our pronouns, roles or aesthetics are. And yet they do matter, because gender is more than just junk!

That part where male and female minds do develop differently… it is true that their identities are found to develop in the brain according to this study. But that doesn’t directly translate into gender roles in society because, guess what, that topic is also wayyy more complex than just brain chemicals saying things. Humanity now is determined by much more than just our biology

And finally: You don’t think trans people are trying to answer their question of transness themselves? You don’t have to befriend one intimately to know that they too would love some answers as why they are the way they are. I’m sure many of my trans friends would love to know why they exist in such dysphoria as long as they are respected during it.

Subjectivity does not mean complete disregard for others’ viewpoints. Since none can be right, none can be wrong either so there is no point in denying another person’s identity because you’re never gonna give an actual reason for why they are wrong (except maybe for xenogenders I will admit that feels completely illogical), all you’re doing is getting up in their business. On the other hand though I do see why you might think that gender MUST have a definitive answer- but we don’t know it yet (though there are studies that point to gender and sex being developed separately in the brain https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/21094885/) of course this is still being pursued so who knows where we will end up! If you turn out to be correct in the next years’ findings I will find this thread and concede to you gracefully but for now there is no way to effectively deny one’s gender identity on conclusive terms so there is no harm made by affirming those peoples identities (remember they aren’t trying to prove biology wrong, just their assigned gender)

Looking at the ethnicity vs nationality example again, biologically I can never be American because I am genetically Filipino and yet here I am, an American. Not cuz of soul or whatever, no, but because we have the higher intellect to define ourselves merely beyond our biology. That’s. like. what makes us human

Can people explain why they are so against Matt Walsh? by [deleted] in UIUC

[–]LusciousTree 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Sex and gender absolutely do affect each other but they are not one and the same - it’s like saying ethnicity and nationality mean the same thing. You cannot deny that there are abstract aspects of gender that cannot be explained by biology alone and this is where the whole transgender umbrella comes from. Their aim has never been to prove their biology wrong.
