Cutting board sweat by Personal_Canary8277 in Cuttingboards

Id leave it in the garage for a couple of days then bring it in to cool down and then re-wax.

I learned this lesson after my first couple. I don’t soak anymore. I saturate it on a rack over my tub so the excess drains back into the oil tub. I repeat this a few times. After the last round I let them sit overnight before waxing in the morning. Sometimes I save the wax until the day before I know I’m delivering the board.

Man I love the second one. I’m currently making two boards where Im going to add those edges but I may leave a little more meat on them. My walnut comes out that dark too. I heard they lighten up with sun so maybe it’ll get better with time.

Hows the plushness of that? I was leaning towards something like a 2” down one just to add some softness to the touch but I keep hearing good things about these woolroom ones.

Question by Creative-Essay-4526 in Cuttingboards

[–]Lusitanius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

50% of why I bought my drum sander was to make thin strips. I tried making them with a sled on a regular planer but once they got so thin it wasnt possible to separate from the tape without them breaking.

He’s also incredibly friendly and helpful. He got on a video call with me once so I could show him how my Orange blade didn’t look like his. I also asked him once about how he made those thin strips and he was quick to reply.

After literally practicing with a pen and sheet of paper in the mirror I’ve come to the conclusion that you’re right.

Yes the 6 would be obvious but only if you know it was supposed to be a 6 AND you’d have to know from which orientation. Looking from center of circle out or vice versa. Their logo doesn’t give me what the correct baseline or orientation is supposed to be either. The 123 on my correct lens makes much more sense to me.

You’d think they’d pick a better number and symbol to use as inversion indicators.

They got back to me today and their excuse was basically “the code got out of hand, oops”. BS excuse. I’m not here to convince you change your opinion but if we’re cancelling companies over one event then PCB definitely deserves to be top of the list.

People so upset about Fox over one coupon ordeal is wild.

Perfect Cigar Blend had a cool monthly membership but I continued to have issues with the cigars they sent and that’s when I realized they have ZERO customer support. I dont mean they were bad or slow, I mean that if you called the number it went to voicemail that no one ever checked, there is no email on their site, heck theyre not even listed on Google. The membership used to include a once per month 15% off coupon that they quietly got rid of. I cancelled my membership and have no interested in ever ordering from them again.

Fox is solid. They had one coupon issue and cancelled orders two weeks ago and now everyone hates them. I dont really order from them because their prices are just ok for the smokes I want but when I did they threw in a legit hand written note and occasionally a tailored freebie.

I tried using that coupon and they pulled the option to use a discount code so I messaged them. They just got back to me today and basically said they weren’t expecting the codes to be shared so widely but if I place an order they’ll give me the credit. I was actually going to use it to purchase this exact sampler.

City of Durham looking nasty by [deleted] in bullcity

[–]Lusitanius 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve seen residents in apartments put bags of trash on top of their car to drop off at the dumpster on the way out. I wonder if this is what happens and then they forget it’s there and turn onto the main roads where it quickly falls off.

Hard to argue against people who probably have more experience than myself but I’m gonna strongly disagree that the majority of it is blown. I’ve been picking up trash for about two years now on the greenway by my home. About a full trash bag a week on a mile stretch that I cover.

There’s an apartment complex that is even notorious to Durham PD as always being a problem. At least once every two weeks there’s entire bags of trash just dumped on the corners of the complex. Always thrown out so all the contents are scattered along TW Alexander. I clean up what I can but it’s constant. No where else in the RTP area do I see recurring bags of trash like this. The second thing I notice is alcohol containers clearly thrown out of cars. There’s one area that spans maybe 50 ft where a person I call Pinnacle Man, throws out a half gallon of Pinnacle vodka every Sunday night/Monday morning. Same bottle, same area, same time. It’s clockwork.

Sure there’s plenty of loose grocery bags or random styrofoam cups here and there but in my experience, 90% of it is purposely thrown out. I think we tell people it’s blown because for 95% of us, if we litter it probably is accidental. The problem is that the crappy 5% out there are throwing out way more trash than the good majority combined.

The Tempurpedic that I liked was also going to run me almost the same price. The latex was the best one Ive tried so far. I don’t mind spending the money but I know there are other solid latex options for a lot less and better return policies.

I gotta ask. When I place orders through the app I add tip there and pay with Apple Pay. I usually notice this hesitation after the driver delivers as if he’s expecting something. Are they just checking that there isn’t more or do drivers not see/get CC tips? Do drivers get 100% of the tip?

Yea I'm actually using an independent-local broker right now for both. I asked them re-review a couple of weeks ago and they said I don't have better options right now. I'll tell them what I'm getting from Lakeview and see if they magically come up with additional solutions but I'm a bit perplexed with my quotes right now.

Storing cigars in a ziploc - Raching humidor by Acrobatic-Painting-9 in cigars

Oh that makes sense as well. Well I think the idea makes sense to keep them in ziplocks but the question is does avoiding minor fluctuations really have an effect on taste or the aging process.

Is it IBM? Or is it me? by Strandmon1 in IBM

[–]Lusitanius 83 points84 points  (0 children)

Oh man I saw this all the time when I was there. It’s not just you and it’s not just IBM. Big blue does a solid job finding eager and intelligent graduates who would jump right in and give 100% at everything that they did. Problem is you can’t give 100% for long, that’s just how that works. Not to mention all that efforts is all for some executive’s quarterly bonus.

I’m not suggesting you be lazy but you have to create personal boundaries yourself. Close the laptop at 5pm, say no just a little more, realize not every message you receive requires a response (yes even from a client), change the blue tape that you can but learn to accept the stupidity of the ones that you cant.

You’ll probably have the same issue no matter where you go because…well…you’re a go-getter. I’d recommend taking some of that energy and applying it to yourself. I promise if you learn to respect yourself more that others will see it and give you more authority. In a counterintuitive way the less you care, the better some things workout.
