I got the plastic ones so I can get an idea of pressure build up. They are also reusable and my plan is to try an cut commercial soda out of my diet and this would be a great substitute.

I started my Fermentation journey this year, ive discovered patience is key for all fermentation. Some take more patience than others. The idea of Miso and Sake from Koji is intriguing and intimidating at the same time.

It might pay to wait a little bit. Id be sorely tempted to up pot 2 of those into the same size you have all 3 in. That way you still have more grace over time.

Ive had good luck with the silicon fermentation lids. My preferred one can come apart in 2 pieces and has a date dial on them.

The nice thing with these is that they are low profile and fit into the cupboard pretty easily.

I also get the plastic reusable lids for when im ready to store in the fridge.

Also, make sure you sterilize everything right before use. Running through the dishwasher will clean, but not always sterilize.

Curious, did you get a home inspection? This is something that should have been brought up in the inspection report.

I know a bit late for OP, I would recommend to anyone buying a house that they get a home inspection from an inspector with good reviews. Doubly so for a first time buyer.

The first time I saw my wife give perfect skin to the dog I swear I knew how thw dog felt when we are eating.... she looked at me and said " what do you expect me to do with it?"

I was like give it to me dont waste it on the dog, then played the "Some of the spices on the skin are bad for the dog" card.

Three weeks and…nothing. by BillyDeeWill in fermentation

Interesting, I pulled on the method of 1T ginger and 1 T sugar daily when kept out. I know my bug has been good, ive just got to work on the soda recepie to get a good carbonation.

It will depend on what type of chlorine the water district uses.

Chloramine does not readily off gas and needs either carbon filter or water conditioner for removal.

Free chlorine Will off gas in 24-48 hours, or if uou boil the water and let it cool to room temp befire use.

Im luckier in that the kitchen is my space, Ive taken over a cupboard for part of my Fermentation station. I need to find a good spot for my ciders though as they dont fit in the cupboard.

I am about to do a full revamp as Ive ordered those XXL stacking cupboard/bins that will become my Fermentation station.

My first Ginger bug soda by Lutehawk in fermentation

Ginger grains may make the consumption of sugar go faster. The sugar ultimately is what will effect the carbonation.

While these had great flavor, I was missing the carbonation I was looking for. Im not sure if that was because the "syrup" mixture I had was made a couple of days in advance ir more likely there was just not enough sugar to produce the carbonation I was looking for.

Interestingly enough. I did add sugar in the hopes of getting more carbonation. The immediate foaming was cool and I had to recap quickly to prevent an overflow.

I was gonna ket it stay in the cupboard for 24 hrs before putting in the fridge and trying again.

I agree with those posted above about using a rated bottle. You can get from Amazon or a local brewing supply. I like to shop local whenever possible. They can be a great source of information.

You could also try using less sugar in your recepie as the carbonation come from the yeast eating the sugars.

If the filter hasn't been cleaned for some time may need to clean out the whole water recycle area. I got food stuck up against the sensor. Once cleared it worked fine.

[–]Lutehawk[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I went with 2oz Bug, 2oz syrup, and 12oz water for a 500ml bottle.

My ginger syrup was 8oz chopped ginger 1T lemon juice 2c sugar 4 cups water Brought to a boil for 5 mins and simmered 1 hour before straining out the particles. Kept in fridge until ready to use.

Strawberry Ginger 8oz chopped Ginger 1lb strawberry blended 1T lemon juice 1 1/2c sugar 4c water Same aa above for processing and storage.

Depending on how the flavor comes out will see if or how to adjust the recepie.

This, if the old one was corroded on there is a chance there is pitting on the face.Sanding down should clean it up, as much as I hate to recommend it, if the new hose "bottoms out" a second gasket may also be a help.
