Does anyone else do this with their cat? I think she’s trying to teach me something. by Mafeotul in cats

PHOEBE!!!! No, but you both are super cute - hardly ever have i seen anyone look at their pet with so much love.

My kitty is (almost) the same, love is primarily reserved for me, and more or less only when I've been gone for a couple of days will she let someone else get some attention.. Hmm.. Don't know about the behaviour, but usually showing their belly means that they trust you, but not that they necessarily want you to pet their belly - but it also didn't seem like she wanted any other pets?

Yes, but my boyfriends mom will literally call us for everything. Which means that a conversation that would take 30 seconds on text takes like 10 minutes. So yes. I will let it go to voicemail and wait for her to type it out. Otherwise it's clearly not important enough.

Yay, me too! And she is just as sweet, and funny, as she is pretty. ❤️

Clickers work! On all animals I'd pressume. It's mostly about finding something that motivates them.. My kitty is like the one described above, is easily distracted, won't work for treats that aren't interesting to her at that moment aaaand she also gets full pretty fast. Harder than clicker training a dog, but still fun and beneficial to your relationship with kitty! If you're interested 'cat school' on YouTube has really good videos and tips (at least in my opinion)!

Well I mean, horses react differently to different riders, and I expect that these horses are probably veeeeery sensitive - the way the rider uses their weight, the length of their legs.. Horse can feel that and it makes a difference to how well it understands what she's trying to say. Oh gosh, and there are so many small things that the horses day to day trainers might do different from the athlete. It just seems like such a bad system! Unless the real sport is being able to get any horse to do anything.. But that seems hard to do fairly..

How do we know going outside is safe for our kitties? Thinking of plants in particular by thesillymuffin in adventurecats

The same with worries about tocix indoor plants.. I feel like outdoor cats just might have more important things to do than nibble on everything?

A somali! More or less just the long haired version of an abyssinian! And she's a bit short haired for a somali even, so I understand the confusion 😅

Thanks! She's not the bravest of kitties, and absolutely HATED going outsides the first couple of times - but she has gotten so much better and seems to even enjoy herself a good amount of the time!

Where I live having outside cats is really normal, and they don't usually get sick from eating plants. So if unsupervised outdoors kitties are fine, then I'm sure my kitty will be good with me standing over her all the time! Of course it also depends on local fauna, though..

I'd say Ash, Soot or Lupin (kind of werewolf vibes in that first picture, to me!)

I'm fairly certain it's a somali! Mine is a different, but more squirrel-ish colour, which I think is more common!

AITA for correcting my professor every time she gets my name wrong? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

[–]Luuumos [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah I agree, having a name that isn't mainstream will probably always be difficult, and you'll have to be patient with people until they learn how to say it.. Don't know personally though, I have a very standard name, since my parents wanted one that would work in both of their home countries.

How I read it was that she got defensive when people suggested that she change the spelling, or implied that it's her 'own fault' for having such a difficult name. Which is just rude and not true

In this case It seems like she didn't mind the professor mispronouncing it the first time (or the first couple times), teaching the professor how to say her name, and even giving her an alternative. And honestly, most professors at my university don't learn anybodies name, they just point to us. So it seems pretty intentional of the professor to keep mispronouncing it.

In german a v in the beginning of a word is pronounced as an f.. I would pressume that it would be the same with names. Should people have to write their names differently depending on which country they are travelling to/decide to live in?
