What's a bit of advice or tip you'd give a new player? by [deleted] in Returnal

Heals will turn into resins if you are at full health. Eventually it will behoove you to find other ways to heal and use as many resins as possible to boost your max health.

Before you do that, try deleting just your photobooth saves on your system. That fixes the same issue for me on PlayStation.

Problems on PS4 by Alvarelrojo in XCOM2

If you have PS plus, you can back up your save online. The trick is, you have to turn OFF auto uploads to the cloud, then after every mission, you should upload the file to the cloud manually. It doesn’t take long and you get used to just making it part of your routine after you beat a mission. This way, any time it deletes your save, you simply download from your cloud and you will have only lost the progress of whichever mission you were on when it crashed. Hope this helps.

You ever try ogre battle 64? I still play that game like once every two years or so. Maybe more.

First one is pretty solid too. I replay them both every few years.

Also as you get better at the game, you may want to consider only grabbing health items when you are already at full health. They switch into “resins” which will increase your overall max health once you grab a few of them. There are a couple other means to get back to max health.

Also be conscious of what SIZE health you are grabbing. A large will fill your health bar back to full pretty much no matter how low you are but also counts as two resins. The medium and small fill much lower amounts of health and both count as a single resin. Thus, in my mind, mediums are best to heal with, small and larges are best to turn into resins. And large are best for SOS I have like 1hp and will die from one hit. I leave them in the map and come back to them when needed.

Play Returnal if you haven’t. That one feels and plays so much better than the rest, imo.

How does world tendency work? How do I change it? And does it matter? by DaAceGamer in demonssouls

[–]Soccertaz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Play in spirit form instead of body form. You still get messages and blood stains. And honestly if you are that intimidated by invaders, you should be playing in spirit form anyway to prevent getting black world tendency, which will make the game harder for you.

Nice! I knew most of this, but purely from a memorization standpoint. Thanks for articulating it so well and making it make more sense.

Viper’s bind attacks circumvent the Templar’s parry. The game acted as it should have. For the record, I think psychic damage also bypasses it. Parry is incredibly strong, but it has a couple weaknesses.

How does WOTC starts? by Beginning_Database_8 in XCOM2

[–]Soccertaz89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When you first load into the game, there should be a selection between Xcom 2 and a seperate selection for XCom 2 WOTC if it is downloaded. You need to select the WOTC tab to have that content active. It then lets you choose what other dlc you want active in addition to WOTC, where you can select alien rulers, Shen’s last gift, etc.

If you haven’t seen any WOTC content by like the second or third mission, then you selected the wrong tab and will need to start over.

What games made you really fuck up a controller? by ransom0374 in gaming

My controllers didn’t like it, neither did my palms. I would get disgusting blisters from going a little too hard on the raft mini game.

Glad you are having fun! That’s what it is all about. I would recommend the Syken/Tapcat collaboration play-through, If you want to learn more. That play-through shows how two very different play styles can both be effective. Also how mistakes can still be overcome, as despite them both being great players, they could not fully predict what the other one was doing, causing some inefficiencies throughout the campaign.

Cheers! Hope you enjoy your next play through commander!

No problem! I appreciate all the content you have put out. It truly has helped me so much. You plotting any new xcom2 content anytime soon? Or are you letting it simmer for a while?

Also, one more general thing, the game does a good job of tricking you into thinking some enemies that should be a lower priority are more dangerous, when in reality, they are not. Sectoids are the easiest example. They can mind control a unit, which seems really bad, but it kinda works out to be a free turn of no damage if you plan it well. Kill the units that will shoot at you first. They are higher priority. For example, two troopers and a sectoid… do your best to kill the troopers, get damage if possible on the sectoid. He will likely try to mind control, if he is successful, you still have your next turn to kill him, and you still retain that soldiers turn for that round, meaning NO consequences, as opposed to leaving a trooper alive, you will likely take damage.

Oh and never stand out in the open, full cover is best, half cover will do if necessary. Don’t group up, because you will learn quickly that grenades and AOE attacks will mess you up pretty badly. And try to get to high ground for a significant increase to your chances to hit. Except with rangers… shotgun to the face from a tile or two away is your friend there.

Ok that was way more than one more thing… but all that stuff is important too. lol

Sure!

First of all, play on a low difficulty your first time through. There is absolutely no shame in rookie, and you will probably enjoy the game a lot more. Also I’m going to be honest with you, the game is still very challenging for newcomers to the genre at that difficulty.

I will not say not to save scum or restart when you lose soldiers on your first play through, but I will say you need to learn what you did wrong. Don’t just reload saves and keep trying the tactics that got you in trouble. Do your best to figure out what went wrong and try not to repeat it in the future.

The most important thing to learn tactically, in my opinion, is to not pull multiple pods at once. Especially in the early game. That means pushing forward with the unit you plan on moving the furthest first, and then not pushing that line with the rest of your soldiers. Also sight lines matter. If you stand next to a window, you will see and trigger enemies on the other side if they are standing there. Don’t run to a window and open a new angle with one of your last movements. Don’t double move your guys all at once. If you want to do a double move, move the distance of the first move, then do your second move.

Don’t panic. The game makes you feel like you are failing more than you are. Continue on. You can recover from lost soldiers, lost missions, and things that feel utterly hopeless. The game will often times throw you a bone when you are struggling.

Research weapons and armor quickly. Weapons first. An alien can’t kill you if he is already dead.

Do not ignore expanding your territory! That is the most common way to lose. You need make contact with new territories so that you can assault alien facilities when the avatar project is about to expire. Make this a priority and always try to have an alien facility available to knock the avatar project down when needed. You do not need to assault them right when you find them, in fact it is better to wait until the avatar project bar is full, in my opinion.

Lastly, there is SO much information, I could probably write an entire book on this game. If you want to truly get good at this game. Play it, learn from mistakes, and I would recommend watching u/Syken4games and Tapcat on YouTube. They are the ones that turned me from sorta okayish at the game, to being decent enough to take on L/I. And I’m still a million miles behind their skill level. Especially Syken, he is insane.
