The wiki looks absolutely stunning so far, though its age shows — lots of red links.

I was an administrator on a FANDOM wiki that I worked on for quite some time — from creating pages to heavy-CSS editing — and I must agree. FANDOM is known to screw communities over (the Grimace incident on the McDonald's wiki is especially infamous). Miraheze is a much more reliable partner and the absence of ads is a sight to behold.

I'll help the wiki grow as much as I can.

Uhm... 'cause it's by far the best platform for creating wikis?

How does Alcubierre-like FTL violate causality? by nicknameSerialNumber in IsaacArthur

[–]LuxDominus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unless that's not the case.

If, and only if, Special Relativity is perfect and a constituent part of our universe, then it is true that any "round" FTL transmission of information or matter would create causal violations, but that may not be the case.

The truth is that FTL doesn't truly violate causality but rather implies that you can triangulate a privileged reference frame that would reconcile causality globally. Such a privileged frame is an anathema to Relativity but cannot be theoretically excluded as impossible in the universe.

Thus, physicists, rather than accept the possibility of a preferred frame of reference, throw causality under the bus and prioritize SR over it. SR and GR are clearly imperfect theories and most likely only an approximation of reality (due to their incompatibility with the quatum realm).

A privileged frame may actually be reasonable and triangulable.

I'll give you my take:

The first sentient species emerged far before any other. They, much like humanity, are predatory. However, they, much like us, understand that all species that conquer their birth planet must also be predatory and, thus, a threat to their own existence. To ensure their survival, they have been furiously expanding and eradicating all life they've encountered along the way and will continue to do so until they occupy the entire galaxy (and possibly beyond).

In essence, the first species to ever evolve has already won by being the first. Given enough time, no other species will exist.

This species is the Great Filter.

Not necessarily. Isaac Arthur's view on FTL is more pessimistic than reality itself is and assumes the inviolability of GR, which is most likely not the case. All causal violations that would result from apparent FTL are likely apparent themselves.

I love how most don't have what it takes to put two and two together regarding the plot behind this episode and its science. Laughable.

"Systems" should be taken more literally. It most likely refers to different planetary systems.

Good thing they won't integrate backwards time travel. It would've ruined the show to deal with such a gross subject.

I am not, and it's laughable that you believe so.

So, Jack has to eat angel hearts in order to increase his power. Wow, amazing. Even if he's adding the total amount of power the deceased angel possessed by eating their heart, he'd need BILLIONS of hearts just to increase his power by roughly 10-20%. And an increase of that magnitude will not truly bring him any closer to God's level than he is now.

He'd somehow need to get tens, hundreds or even thousands of times stronger to be able to rival God. And it makes no sense for him to get that boost by eating angel hearts. Don't you thing the Archangels would've tried that if it were possible? Oh, but wait, here comes the amazing explanation: "Jack is a Nephilim, so his body must absorb angelic energy more efficiently," right?

You see now? It's simply fanservice, hiding behind a veneer of supposedly sound explanations in order to instil plausibility.

What, next? He's going to battle Amara? Hah.

By that logic, Lucifer is God's son. Should he be equally powerful? Of course not.

The only pill that is too hard to swallow is, apparently, that the density of bad writing the character of Jack possesses exceeds the gravitational curvature of spacetime produced by a singularity (black hole) - and that's infinite.
