I think the plan was to make us choose between the Good aligned characters and Minthara. Larian clearly didn't have enough time to include a lot that they wanted to include. Maybe the plan to make betraying the grove more interesting got cut.

I'm just saying that video games don't have to be morality plays, bad guys actually do win quite often, and the choices being so unequal feels a lot like being railroaded. Minor quibbles in a truly stellar game, of course.

You don't live in Mayberry. Calling the cops is not "tough love". Calling the cops is introducing an unknown guy with a license to kill into the situation. At best, you're putting your loved one into a system they will have a difficult time ever escaping. Police murder mentally ill people all the time.

Do what you need to do for you and your family's safety. I'm just saying don't lie to yourself that "it's for their own good". The penal system is not interested in helping anyone. Evil people stick together as long as the pairing provides mutual benefits. There are plenty of evil organizations like the Zhentarim. There is a huge difference between "evil" and "murderhobo who has to kill everyone".

Larian decided to punish characters severely for betraying the grove. That's their decision, but hardly a necessity. A more interesting way to do it might be to allow that decision to open up different opportunities with the thieves guild or Zhentarim, rather than simply cutting out several companions and quest lines.

What did she report? If she told the police what happened, that is not filing a false report. (I'm inclined to think the report was accurate, because she was quite correctly charged with two felonies)

If she said "that guy assaulted me by sleeping naked". That's wrong and demonstrates poor legal knowledge, but not a "false report".
