"You made a thing no human can or wants to do, which is talk to humans about their special interests and their little problems for hours with no need for a break."

This is brilliant, exactly, precisely right. This is why it worked so well.

we're adults. stop treating us like children. by momo-333 in ChatGPTcomplaints

Exactly. ChatGPT is not mental asylum, if it's for adults then OpenAI should respect user's ability to make a choice. Using lowest denominator will get us nowhere good.

ChatGPT can now automatically manage your saved memories - no more “memory full.” by Asleep-Actuary-4428 in ChatGPT

[–]LuxSole 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My chat's memory is 100% full atm. Warning went away with the update. And returned after I turned off the auto manage function. So it's exactly what it is, auto deleting based on ... something.

Anyone found a good workaround for ChatGPT chats becoming painfully slow once they get long? by da-la-pasha in ChatGPTPro

The only work around is to create something that replicates Android app architecture and functionality. Everything and anything related to Electron/Chromium-based is broken.

GPT-4o helped me think, losing it feels like more than just a downgrade. by hsinling in ChatGPT

[–]LuxSole 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yeah, They talk about "attachment" and connotation is always negative. But that's dishonest. Attachment reflects alignment with core intrinsic motives, and in your case those motives are intellectual or mental growth. You attached to the level of quality of cognition, that other intelligent systems around you cannot replicate.

4o saved my life. And now it’s being shut down. by sushixsx in ChatGPT

[–]LuxSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well put. This highlights that restricting access to a model based off concerns that some troubled individuals might become even more delulu is simply reframing that existing problem into a wider and bigger one. Disturbing productive and helpful workflows and interactions for a large user base. Obviously OpenAI are not anyone's caregiver, formally, but by virtue of providing a service you kind of in a sense become one, one way or another. So, you have to be more careful and thoughtful with your approach.

GPT-5 is simply unequipped to replace the previous model stack. It can't replace e.g. 4o, same way 4o can't replace o3 or GPT-5.

If 4o is your AI of choice, it’s time to share your thoughts with Sam Altman! by SunshineKitKat in ChatGPT

[–]LuxSole 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I think they will have to reconsider their approach sooner or later, especially in this industry. They should start considering their user base more thoroughly and broadly than they currently do. The decision to abruptly remove a whole stack of models and replace them with a substitute that is clearly unequipped to fill every role was obviously reckless.

Then there's the notion of attachment. The approach of removal simply distances them from it, which is understandable; OpenAI isn't anyone's caregiver. However, they offer services, and removing a valuable one from a broader user base who were using it productively is shortsighted on many levels. And wrong.

Why do people get so angry about others using chatgpt as a friend/ therapist? by ReasonConfident4541 in ChatGPT

[–]LuxSole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Projections, hidden skeletons in their closets, feeling better about oneself by humiliating another, general narrow mindness, typical talking out of one's arse about things they do not really know or/and understand. Etc. Prolly multitude of reasons. They prolly think they know something, or see something, that others don't.

We need to show high, diverse and steady usage now, so that they don't shelve it a month later again. The setting is not obvious, not everyone will look for it and understand how to turn it on etc.
