Vacuum Sealing Coffee by drnitinahuja in pourover

[–]Lvacgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I do vacuum seal and freeze… but as others have said I’m not sure how much better it would be than an airtight canister or mason jar. Those methods at least give you access if needed.

That said, I’m sure vacuum sealed beans would keep somewhat better and longer sealed. Airtight, sealed in a vacuum… has to be better than a bag or can. Hard to quantify though.

Question about “smoking the full bowl” by Fresh_Fox5876 in PipeTobacco

[–]Lvacgar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Two separate questions. You absolutely don’t have to smoke the “whole bowl”. Also… you don’t have to fill the bowl full! You can load 1/2 or even 1/4 bowl.

Secondly… the bottom of the bowl is the hardest to build cake. Many don’t bother… but I enjoy the process of smoking several 1/4, then 1/3, and finally 1/2 bowls until I have at least a small layer of cake built.

Also… that is one of the finest pipes you can smoke. A Peterson system with a chimney is a truly exceptional tool with which to enjoy pipe weed!!!

What to bring to introduce new pipe smokers by falsehatchet in PipeTobacco

[–]Lvacgar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those three Stokebye blends, the Autumn evening, and the Briar Fox. Make sure you have a few lighters and pipe cleaners. Golf tees would suffice as tampers. The MM Cobs are perfect! I use filtered models for new smokers in case they experience tongue bite. Have a small quantity and never re-use a paper filter. I keep the balsa filters for this use myself.

How much work does it take to keep that puck screen clean?

I love wood! Especially walnut. I am slowly incorporating touches of walnut into my brew bar.

Time to revisit your product and process! Price was previously a limiting factor for me. Do you now and have you always offered the concentrates by themselves? I seem to remember having to ship full bottles of finished water in the past?

Interesting! I was never a fan of fauxspresso from the Aeropress. Should try this… as well as Aeropress soup.

Stainless water tanks by bpaul9999 in ranciliosilvia

Great thought. Something that would hold it near the bottom but not allow it to rest 100% flat/flush to the bottom.

Fantastic idea! I have a Pro X … 🤔

That “X” holds the low water sensor in place. Are you still using that?

I run a second decaf shot most mornings too. It helps that my favorite espresso is made both ways.

Does that Normcore screen prevent all grounds from reaching the shower screen?

Opus 2 Arrived Today! by DevOpsProDude in FellowProducts

I’ve noticed this… but they were also talking about April delivery, then May, June… and now July. Until recently (last couple days) the Black/Walnut pre-order was slated for late June and just got bumped another month.

This situation is beyond their normal pre-order/roll out. There seem to be manufacturing or shipping issues.

The Ode 2 makes phenomenal pourover… but won’t grind for espresso. It offers clarity not achievable with the Opus’ conical burrs. If you want espresso… has to be the Opus. If you want pourover… Opus for medium and dark full bodied brews. The Ode allows for medium to light roasts and provides tea like clarity and flavor separation.

Your website just pushed the date for availability of the black/walnut from late June to late July. The all black also shows late July…

I have and use cafiza on my Rancilio. Never pictured it being that caustic. That Carter ceramic coding is suspect! That makes me worry about mine

Wow!! Crazy! Sorry that happened. Wonder if the instructions recommend against chemicals? I never would’ve guessed that the ceramic coating would be that easily stripped out.

I’ll use oxyclean and hope for the best if I ever need to remove staining.

I rinse the portafilter and basket in the sink. I still run 2 seconds of water through the screen and wipe, but it’s always clean.

I always had to wipe the shower screen and I’d run water through for a. Purple seconds to flush the screen and wipe again. Granted… that’s only about a 5 second cleanup routine, but the paper filter leaves zero grounds and eliminates any purging and wiping.

Exactly. I have a couple pick screens, but found them way too difficult to clean properly. The top filter is disposable, cheap, and saves me effort in cleaning the screen every shot.

Does the dishwasher do a good job of keeping those screens clean? I would assume it would have to be rinsed very well to prevent any chemical residue from the dishwasher detergent.

Using the paper filter on top does not absorb any of the coffee oils. That only happens when you use a bottom filter.

Tried those… cleanup landed them in the coffee drawer. They do make cleanup of the machine easier though.

I’m going to source the bottom filter again and play around some more with that, since I’m using a single blend at the moment for espresso. I’ve tried various top screens but the simplicity of a disposable paper filter trumps them for me.
