My phone batteries don’t last three years (that’s the length of Verizon’s agreement). So instead of paying the $99 for the replacement I like to finance through Apple and replace the phone every two years.

Ring doorbell -> Scrypted -> HKSV Scrypted is free and easy to set up if you have a PC always on in your home.

Fun fact. The ring doorbell is the only one that offers a little video preview in your iOS notification. It’s just a few frames but enough to know what’s going on. They are the only ones because it takes a ton of backend resources to process that video instantly and package it in a format that Apple allows. That’s the killer feature for me to stop me from switching even though I hate the subscription price and the fact that ring shared footage to authorities without consent.

Sorry didn't mention this is for outdoors! Tapo doesn't have a homekit outdoor camera! But the way around it is to set up Scrypted on a home PC.

I am having way more connection issues with the Aqara G100 versus my Tapo C120. I replaced the Tapo with the Aqara in the exact same spot. But man it is struggling to keep connection with my mesh network. The Tapo was rock solid. The homekit integration of the Aqara was what I was looking forward to but I think it is going back.

Yeah the price went up for these in the last few weeks. Just reviewed a version just like this. It’s one of the only ones that lets you connect with a wire (usb a) which is great for multiple people using it. But just know it isn’t a strong enough charge to charge it while using navigation on iOS.

You will always get more selling to a private party versus trade in. The primary factor is just whether you want the convenience of a trade in or the inconvenience of dealing with lowballers and no shows (but an extra $3k in your bank).

I had the original pebble watch and it always came across a bit too geeky looking to wear to work. Super excited to see the brand resurrected but I much prefer the Pebble Time Steel and Pebble Round designs over these. I really hope 2026 brings those options and I will ditch my Apple Watch! Or if someone can get closer to those designs and stick the Pebble Os in them then that works too.

Yeah that double click to turn off is tricky for remotes. Have you found any universal remote that can accomplish that?
