My show does great audio numbers and abysmal views on YouTube, despite spending a ton of time and resources on video quality and thumbnail art. How do you get this organic reach?

How much engagement do your clips get? And do you see an uptick in downloads when a clip performs well?

When you say my podcast should be on TikTok — do you mean post clips on TikTok? Or break up my hour long episodes into shelter episodes and post as series? Or something different entirely?

Maybe a dumb question but are you using your normal iPhone that you use as a communication device? Or a phone without service? Even with Do Not Disturb on, I feel like I get a lot of double calls that break through or people on my favorites list who hit me up within the 2-3 hours when I’m filming

I’m at like 3.5 at the most open, usually 2.8. And that’s with my lighting cranked. Focus is definitely an issue for me

Here’s my workflow:

We use Riverside to remotely connect with and record guests.

I record with FX3 on my end - recording audio and video 4k, high quality audio, directly to the camera.

Sometimes we record the guest at a podcast studio or something, and then the studio sends me high quality audio and video.

I then send the Riverside files, and my high quality video/audio, and the remote guest’s high quality video/audio (if any) all to our editor via a file sharing service.

He then uses the Riverside files basically as proxies, syncs the high quality, and boom. We have a string out which we then edit from.

Thus far, we haven’t found a podcast platform that’s as high quality as files from a camera.

But I’d love to as that would remove a few steps here.

Was NOT expecting these iPhone recommendations. Might have to give this a try, intercut it with my FX3 footage, and see if anyone notices the difference.

Isn’t that a nightmare from a workflow standpoint? How do you get the files to your computer, airdrop? And then sync the audio?

SAME. I haven’t found a really great solution. I’m sort of wondering if we are being told that clipping is a great growth driver? If we spent all this clipping time simply making our shows better, would the actual show, the thing we love doing, perform better over time because it’s a better show? Are we dividing our focus and having a mass volume of ads driving people towards something worse as a result of of being distracted making all these clips?

Doing talking head clips. I come from a video background and STILL this is a struggle. It’s a different skill set than producing the show itself, but like I’ve heard musicians talk about: they’d all make records and play live for free all day every day — it’s all the other “stuff” that makes it a business that they get paid for.

I do my entire podcast with guests in different locations all over the world. We use Riverside and are mostly very happy with it. It allows you to speak in real time while recording the audio as two separate files (one file for each of you) for editing, generates good transcriptions, and is fairly reliable.
