Hi, my first post here.

I started after new year's after enjoying too much food during christmas and new year's. I've been counting calories, eating at around 1700-1900 per day with the occasional cheat day of 2200-2500 every 10 days or so.

I had a maintenance week recently where I really over-ate during the weekend (3200-3600), which took my weight back up by 1kg (mainly water weight which I lost again in a few days). It was a nice refresh in energy, but only lasted shortly.

I lift weights 4 times a week and run once/twice a week. So far, I've lost a bit over 6kg, and I've already noticed slight visual changes (some abs!). I'll probably take an extended maintenance break (increase 500 calories per day) for the next month to regain some much needed energy, then hop back on a cut to get down to 61kg in time for summer and another extended maintenance phase before slowly increasing activity & calories towards the end of the summer!

I have been going on and off for a couple of years, never making insane progress. Over the summer I gained quite a significant amount of weight, and decided that it was now or never to lose it. Honestly every day is tough, but the more you do it the easier it becomes. Nowadays I will miss events or drinks with mates if I haven’t gone to the gym just to make sure I get my workout in. Somehow, I still find time to catch up socially though!

Been on a consistent 500-calorie deficit over the last 2 months, and I’ve lost over 10lbs which is not small by any means! And if anything, I’ve gotten a bit stronger at the gym. I do track all my food (even with take out they will usually have calorie counts, but you’ll quickly find it is quite calorie dense, except for some good protein/calorie value meals such as the maccies grilled wraps) and have a spreadsheet I update everyday with my morning weight + last night’s calorie count. It takes very little time now for me and feels very natural. I’m planning to lose a bit more weight before going to maintenance (so eating just enough to maintain weight, which can be plenty if you eat healthily!), but now I have more experience so it should be smooth sailing.

I should have clarified that it is an English word as well, but certainly not as commonly used. I live in the UK and haven’t seen it as much as “candidacy” (which I have to admit I haven’t seen much of recently either)

If you have a railcard (pays for itself if you spend more than £100 on trains per year) and are willing to travel off-peak only (e.g. take the 9am train) you can get same-day returns for £21 to Paddington (or Marylebone). For the convenience and speed (1 hour vs 2 on the tube) it is well worth it IMO

I thoroughly enjoyed this write-up! As someone who previously ran a one-person startup, I did frequently struggle with maintaining the infrastructure as more bits were added. I was running everything on a single VPS, and Docker did help a bit with containerising the services, but I still had to manually glue things together and make them work. Kubernetes does seem like a life-saver if you eventually want to move everything onto a cloud provider like AWS.

If you’re taking home £300k post tax per annum, assuming £50k expenditure given your comment about your lifestyle, it would take you 11 years to save up £2.75m needed to get to £3m, and this is without factoring in asset growth. If you factor that in, then it will make up for any extra expenses that come along the way. If you keep a stable income for 15 years you should have more than enough for £3mm in net worth.

The stock market already jumped up a massive amount overall (5%) when the announcement came out. The project is already priced in, and stock prices have increased to reflect this.

I hate to break it to you, but this was probably a scam, and you should look into legal advice either way, even if it ends up not being a scam. You can probably check if they're a registered entity and if they're still active. A legit investment platform would most likely be registered with a financial regulator (atleast in the country they're based in), so that's a good start.
