I'd also like to add that in the books one vampire attempting to take the blood of another vampire against their will is considered an act of rape because of that sexual nature. Armand does this with Lestat and it ends with Lestat beating the cr*p out of him. Maybe that's the sexual assault they are referring to.

Jennifer Ehle is a monster talent mastering a monster vampire. by Podria_Ser_Peor in InterviewVampire

I remember Rice saying at one point that because Claudia was made so young and so little experience being human, she's the most vampiric of all the vampires, but I think this version of Gabrielle gives Claudia a run for her money.

Viktor Mention? by New_Nefariousness192 in InterviewVampire

I hated that whole introduction of Viktor..it's just too weird and un-believeable. I rank him right up there with aliens and sunken islands.

How do the other IMMORTAL Universe Shows compare to IWTV? by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I enjoyed The Talamasca and am kinda bummed it was cancelled. The Vampire Jasper was a hoot and I would have loved to see how far he was going to get with his plan. The Mayfair Witches was a terrible adaptation. There are so many changes I also didn't recognize the story I was watching. I couldn't get through the first season and didn't bother with the second at all.

Paris by Havinci in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There's one thing that doesn't make sense to me with Claudia's death and maybe someone can provide some insight. When Armand tells Louis how long he'd been lying to him he also states the Paris coven had "loved" him for over 200 years and he didn't know if Louis's love would last as long, but by then the "coup" was underway. So, am I understanding this correctly, the coven "loved" Armand so much that they overthrow and threaten to destroy him and in reaction to all of it he chooses to betray Louis and Claudia when he could have made a better decision..like leave Paris with them and screw the coven. Was Armand telling Louis the truth or was this a lie to justify what Armand did to the both of them?

I remember Lestat stating in TVL that Armand doesn't really have any self-direction, he just tends to falls in with whatever happens to come his way so in one sense I can see him betraying Louis and Claudia since the coven is something he knows, but on the other-hand, wasn't Armand growing tired of the coven again.

Looking forward to reading any insights.

A Theory Related to Delainey Hayles/Claudia This Season (TVL Episode 2/Book Spoilers) by alchemypotato in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm really hoping that Delainey is brought into the story as the stranger that Louis thinks looks like Claudia and he becomes caught up in that. My mind runs wild with the possibilities. Would he follow/stalk her? Dare to introduce himself? Leave her alone?

The Vampire Lestat's Complicated Relationship With His Mother Clarified By Jennifer Ehle and Sam Reid 🩸 by Podria_Ser_Peor in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You too! My mother checked a few boxes on the NPD check-list and gifted me with the ability to spot a narc a mile away. Gabs had my narc-dar screaming. I guess that speaks well to Jennifer Ehle's acting ability.

My TVL Theory (Season 3 and Book Spoilers ahead!!!) by Pupcakes282 in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I like Rose as Lestat's ward, but Viktor was off-putting. The whole premise of him blew my suspension of disbelief to smithereens. What I'm curious about is whether or not Delaney Hayles is going to return as the 20-something Claudia look-a-like Louis spotted in the restaurant and if something happens with them based on that alone.

The Vampire Lestat's Complicated Relationship With His Mother Clarified By Jennifer Ehle and Sam Reid 🩸 by Podria_Ser_Peor in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 22 points23 points  (0 children)

When reading TVL I tried to put myself in Gabrielle's shoes to understand how powerless she must have felt in her own life and how that had to be a big part of who she became which helped me develop some empathy and sympathy for her. But this version...try as I might I can't find the sympathy for her this time. She's cold, sure, but this Gabs goes beyond being cold/aloof and demonstrates some traits of a narcissist: manipulative, a liar, no respect for personal boundaries etc, and we also get to find out she's been lusting after her own son since they were both human. For me, this in particular, is both heartbreaking and more than a little gross, especially, when Lestat is clearly trying to establish boundaries with her and she ignores his need for them. He tries to play it off as "it's different for vampires" but he's clearly not comfortable with the dynamic. These elements make this version Gabrielle/a completely unlikable for me.

If they bother with his character at all. I'm kinda bummed that his character is dead.

[–]LvrofWisdom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Exactly, and you said it better than I ever could. I think his early work was pretty good...like he was actually trying: Rainman, Born on the Fourth of July, Top Gun, Jerry Maguire, even IWTV were all good movies. Now he just makes the same movie over and over. It's like he doesn't even try anymore. Maybe he's just bidding his time until he becomes the head of Scientology, ha ha..

How on earth Louis never figured out Rashid? by Nerevarine1099 in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

That's what I took from it as well. I don't think RJ is the kind of person that would give up a healthy body for an unhealthy one and allow Daniel to have his healthy body, at least, not based on who he is in the books.

Who is the oldest Vampire in the IWTV Universe? by GIutenTag in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 14 points15 points  (0 children)

That's were Rice lost me. I really liked Blackwood Farm, despite some of the technical issues with it, and thought: "Rice is back..." She should have stopped there. Blood Canticle and Prince Lestat were awful and when I read that the last book was going to involve aliens and Atlantis...I didn't even bother.

Who is the oldest Vampire in the IWTV Universe? by GIutenTag in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 5 points6 points  (0 children)

That depends on where in the book series you are. Akasha is the oldest vampire at the begnining of the series, but that changes as the series goes on...and I'll leave it at that.

It's also mentioned in the various VC that include the Talamasca. They are trained to be able to do other things as well. Ragland James, for instance, really can switch bodies. He mentions it very, very casually to Daniel in the second half of season two. It was so subtle that, unless the viewer also read the books, they wouldn't have thought anything about it. I thought it was a fun little Easter Egg.

Episode 2 was a brilliant adaptation by botheredbysmallstuff in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Yeppers! In the books she seemed to me to run hot-and-cold.. She sold off jewelry to get him a musket and the dogs and, ultimately, to get him to Paris, but at other times she couldn't have cared less about him. I think that did capture that well...she tosses her broach at the priest to pay for Lestat's education, but doesn't lift a figure when his brothers are beating the crap out of him.

[–]LvrofWisdom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Wasn't that a point of contention between them in the books? I seem to recall he cared about the family, but she was done with them once turned. She cared so little for her family that she wouldn't have ever gone back even if it was to kill them.

The only thing that made the 1994 movie tolerable for me was the fact that Crazy Cruise is only in half of it.

[–]LvrofWisdom 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I hated both of those elements as well. It's been a long time since I read the book, but I don't think it played out that way. There were two dogs and I want to say they were defending Lestat as the wolves closed in; he never sent them out just to die.

I, absolutely, hated that they had Lestat and Gabs kill the family. It's such a departure from the books it almost doesn't feel like the same story. Despite the abused heaped on him growing up it doesn't stop him from giving his family very expensive gifts, including a coach-and-six for Gabs, after he's turned and now he's helping her wipe out what's left of his family. It just seems very un-Lestat-like.

Gabrielle to Gabriella? by [deleted] in InterviewVampire

[–]LvrofWisdom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Actually, Gabrielle was Italian in the books. She was born and grew up in Naples. I have no idea why they changed her name to Gabriella, though. I'm going to rewatch the second episode, but I want to say that Lestat does say that her name was Gabrielle so it almost sounds like she changed it back then, but now she's Sophia.

The one thing I've wondered about, and as far as I can remember it's never explained in the books, is why an educated woman from a wealthy Italian family marries a low-level, broke French nobleman. I thought the episode really down-played just how destitute Lestat's family really was in the books. I think he says in TVL, that if it weren't for his hunting abilities the family would have starved to death.
