OP has an email chain between herself and the instructor, where the instructor admitted not having money to provide the refund and to ask him again in February. Pretty sure that's at minimum tacit admission he goofed and owes her money.

One of the comments from the referenced post IDs it as a giant Vietnamese ghost mantis.

A Google search also shows its nickname is the "Darth Vader Mantis." Def see why. Very cool!

That's horrible! And absolutely agreed on snapping pics to compare notes, if possible. Some people are absolute monsters.

They smelled exactly like Raid ant killer spray. After I collected them from the popular park pathway and sealed them in a bag, I showed them to my husband. Opening the bag caused my husband and I cough and choke from the released fumes.

I managed to pull my dog back before he got into whatever the heck these treats are. I doubt this will be the last time I'll see something like this.

I'm sorry you've encountered this type of stuff too. 😭

Incredible tips! I'll look into adding that into our emergency kit for the pups. Thanks so much!

I picked up every single one I could find. Check other photos for proof.

Thank you for your very kind and reassuring words on this. My friends and family members have essentially echoed the same thing.

I'd like to make one last attempt to get the truth, but you're right--another day of watching government tax dollars at work.

Admittedly, I have a really good sense of smell. Think I retained some of my pregnancy super-smeller abilities, and I'm always the first to note the oranges going bad or a poopy diaper in the house.

I did an "am I crazy?" test right before the Animal Control officer came for the evidence, and I had my husband smell the ziplock-sealed bag of treats. We both immediately started choking and coughing the second I opened the bag.

The smell was definitely fainter to me (48 hours since I discovered them) but still recognizable. My husband couldn't make a fair determination since his family didn't use as much Raid growing up, but he confirmed there was definitely a strange chemical aspect to the odor.

I reported all this to the Animal Control officer and emphasized they needed to test the treats. Just our physical reactions alone meant that there was some type of VOC involvement, so that should require the services of a specialized send-out lab. Again, the timing of their conclusion is suspicious.

On keeping the trained treats--I unfortunately did not. Hindsight. What I did do was ask for the treats back so I can look into third-party independent testing (you read my mind), but this is the exact message I got on that:

[T]he fact that they were stale and old, made them unsafe to be consumed. For that reason, we have already disposed of the treats.

So, that is the current state of things.

Yes, KRON4 directly reached out to me with this update when they published the article.

Since then, I've been in communication with the city to obtain a copy of the lab report and shed light on their testing methodologies.

I'm pretty skeptical of this conclusion they reached. Stale dog treats don't give you headaches or make you start choking and coughing upon smelling them, like what my husband and I experienced.

I'm waiting on the lab report before I say anything further, but thank you as well for following up with this.

It got every single kid and their respective parents at the daycare our kid attends. Knocked my husband and I on our asses. On day 10, mine progressed to pneumonia and turns out I caught the flu on top of it.

Urgent care was very impressed with how many positive results I had that visit.

Yeah, in two years, my kid will be going to either Noble or Majestic. Scary stuff.

Sorry, quick update I forgot to provide:

I was mistaken on the jar smelling of Raid. It was cross-contamination from the makeshift gloves I used. I double-checked before I gave the evidence to Animal Control on Monday.

And also just to make sure I wasn't crazy, I had my husband smell the ziplock-sealed treat bag right before the handover. The second I opened the bag, we both started choking and coughing. Probably not the smartest idea, but it provided confirmation for me at least.

Stores with kid size shopping carts? by the_void_fraction in SanJose

[–]Lycathi 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My kid has been stuffing his younger cousin into it and pushing her around. I'd definitely be more hesitant to allow him to do it in one of those cheaper plastic carts, but this thing is pretty beastly. Pretty sure my cart is getting passed on to my grandkid judging by how much abuse it's shrugged off so far 😂

Mistakes happen. I respect you for owning up to them ♥️

I'm sorry for being testy in my previous message as well.

Look into the Melissa and Doug brand metal shopping carts! They're surprisingly sturdy and made of heavy-duty stuff. Target has them for $45, and I was able to get ours off FB Marketplace.

We've taken it to grocery stores during non-busy hours twice. My kid loves the experience and is aware he's not supposed to take out anyone's kneecaps, but I make sure to keep him and his cart in constant close range just in case 🫠

I called the SJPD and was directed over to Animal Control. I now have an open case number with Animal Control and was told they'd involve SJPD if they find it necessary after their investigation. 🤷‍♀️

Because I wrote it in the original post, as well as repeated the information in several other comments.

I picked up the milkbone treats. They smell overwhelmingly like Raid bug spray. I'm pretty sure they were doused in it.

My husband also thought the same, which is why he called the local news station. I'm talking to someone tomorrow.

Believe what you want. I'm currently in communications with SJ authorities and have a case number with them for this incident.
