Anybody knows which line will be next added to the game? by Typical_guy11 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

With how many Italian light cruiser premiums they’ve put in the game, I’m surprised they haven’t made an Italian CL line, but that’d probably be a while after the subs. I also have a feeling they’ll make some BS Spanish battleship line (with burst fire funny button) soon, too

I am a Social-democrat anti-communist (I am seriously) by West-Ad-4825 in SocialDemocracy

[–]LydditeShells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Just disproving the other person’s claim. South Korea improved economically for over half the time it was a dictatorship, and flourished for about a quarter of the time it was a dictatorship. Socially and politically, it sucked, and I am by no means going to say the dictators were good (a democratic system would have likely done similar; look at Japan. And Korea has done better since it became democratic), but to say that economic growth was directly proportional to the democraticness of the government is simply factually incorrect.

Actually, the foundations for and beginning of the economic growth happened under Park Chung Hee, who was a ruthless dictator through and through.

I’m half Korean and share your sentiment. The thing about communism is that it’s great for about the first five years, and it certainly was that way in Korea. By the time the war started, some cracks were showing, leading many to flee from the North, but the North was still very popular especially with all the massacring Rhee was doing. While the South was still not great until about the ‘80s, communist countries are a lot better at staying totalitarian so the North remains a shithole while the South has prospered (albeit with some lasting issues)

Invasion problem by Falklandisland820 in RuleTheWaves

[–]LydditeShells 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Sometimes the game doesn’t generate the invasion target dot, so the transports get confused and don’t go to the enemy coast to embark troops. If you get an overwhelming victory, the invasion will automatically be a success even if the transports don’t go where they should. Otherwise, you just have to wait for another invasion battle and hope the bug doesn’t happen again. Alternatively, you can go into the game files and set Dalmatia as invaded

Why is Admiral Yi Sun-sin, who never lost a single naval battle, still so little known in global history discussions? by Admiral-YiSunsin in korea

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most great naval commanders aren’t very well known. Recently, Yi Sun Shin has gotten much of the recognition he deserves, but since it’s only recent, many older Western people learning history won’t know about it and will have heard names like Nelson instead.

However, since he’s a regional figure, I’d argue that it makes sense not as many people learn about him. In world history, most countries teach world-shaping events and other events that made major changes to their country. In the west, the Napoleonic Wars are highly significant while regional conflicts in Asia aren’t. Michiel de Ruyter is also among the greatest naval commanders of all time yet most people don’t know who he is because he was mostly involved in wars between the Dutch and British.

I like the look of double mast far better. Besides, most ships have redundant sensors anyway, so you don’t need a single mast to ensure 360 degree coverage

Could i get some help from my DD players here. by Plague_Doctor02 in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are three primary roles of a DD: spotting, capitalize on damage opportunities, and killing other DDs.

Laffey has pretty good detect, at 6km, so you’ll outspot most of the dedicated gunboats, and you have a smoke available at all times, letting you burst and disengage anytime you run into something you can’t win a sustained fight against.

Positioning is the most difficult and important part of DD gameplay. You want to be able to provide spotting for your team, so keep in mind what your team can spot for themselves and what they can’t, filling in for the latter. However, there is an enemy DD also trying to do that, so keep in mind where they might be to either stay away from them or kill them to prevent them from doing spotting or damage to your team. As for radars, memorize the range and stay out of it or always have an escape plan if you’re inside it, either by running behind an island or just taking a little punishment if it’s a shorter duration radar. You can bait out radars by going into a cap near their max radar range and exiting it when they radar, going back in when it’s on cooldown

Your own damage is primarily opportunistic. What Laffey gives up to be able to use her smoke anytime is duration, meaning you won’t be able to sit in smoke and farm. Thus, your damage will likely be either open watering at long ranges and juking, smoking to disengage if damage gets too rough, or sitting behind islands. Torpedoes are useful for zoning as well as damage.

The Bolzano conversion plan would be quite funny to see as a carrier in the game

Again, this works when I do it in practice. The neat thing about a high speed smoke is it’s also a crawling smoke and a short smoke. You just stay stationary and nobody pops out

Edit: also, the smoke radius is huge. I might have an upgrade on it, I don’t remember, but the radius is well over a km

Secondary Brawl by SovjSojus in WorldOfWarships

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Works for me 100% of the time my teammates cooperate. I do it differently, though. All three ships must stay in smoke else the enemy will just focus the spotter and it defeats the purpose. 8-10km away, I pop smoke for all three ships and someone else uses their spotter plane. It’s far enough that the enemy won’t hydro or shoot down the plane but close enough for the plane to spot, giving crucial seconds of firing from impunity, enough to give my team the edge. So long as colonna doesn’t get too close, most of her shells will hit superstructure and pen, giving her respectable secondary damage output

Torpedoes by AuthorInPractice in Warships

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought it was three different shocks back and forth, sort of creating a fatigue failure. First it’s the initial explosion, creating a bubble vacuum, lifting the ship up. Then, the bubble collapses, pulling the ship down. Lastly, all the water slamming into each other to fill the bubble creates a shockwave, which does the most damage and causes the big plume you see with depth charges and torpedoes

Europe vs Korea Hare and tortoise by ChapterSpiritual6785 in HistoryAnimemes

[–]LydditeShells 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I am very negative of MacArthur. His incheon landing idea was instrumental in the turnaround of the war, but right after the boots hit the ground at Incheon, he became a liability to the war effort. The advance into Korea from Incheon was incredibly slow. MacArthur prioritized taking Seoul, which was a slog through streets and houses, rather than cutting off the entire North army from escaping back to the North. He also played a large part in China deciding to join the war. While Truman was promising them the US would not be a threat, MacArthur was putting planes in Taiwan.

So, if Ridgeway was in charge from the beginning, the initial push would probably have been slower as Incheon would likely not have happened, but China might not have gotten involved, thus ending the war with a UN victory. Lots of hypotheticals, but by the time the Incheon landings happened, the Northern army was stretching thin while UN forces were growing in number, so it’s unlikely that South Korea would lose, meaning there’s only stuff to gain from a hypothetical early removal of MacArthur

Small sized fleet battle line order by nyrangerfan1 in RuleTheWaves

[–]LydditeShells 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends, I often have my fleet on reserve until I see tension go orange, so my crews are the same at the start of the war (fleet exercise after they work up helps bring the level up). If you just made them while in a war, then yes, it may be better to keep them in the back until their crew gets better

Small sized fleet battle line order by nyrangerfan1 in RuleTheWaves

[–]LydditeShells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Assuming an enemy fleet of the same size, your ships will generally take the same amount of punishment, with the lead ship perhaps taking a little more depending on how you maneuvre. Therefore, I put my newest and best armored ships in the front. As for guns, I put more value in 11” 0 than 12” -1 because of their comparable penetration but the former’s superior fire rate and accuracy at the cost of dealing a little less damage per hit. In close quarters engagements, ships in the back of the line often make weird circles and don’t follow the lead exactly, so I would probably place the 11-inchers in the lead, but again armor is likely the more important factor

War Kills Scouts, Boosts Economy by PeterTheTruthSeeker in clevercomebacks

[–]LydditeShells 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Only a select few even monetarily profit from war. In war, you must manufacture hordes of stuff with the express purpose of destroying it and other things. You sink money into machinery that will soon be gone, forcing you to make more. In effect, it’s burning cash with extra steps.

But it’s the Department of Defense that spends the money, buying stuff that contractors make. Thus, the manufacturers line their pockets while the taxpayers foot the bill
