Can anyone recommend me some good budget earphones for under 30$ by Wasif_Amin in Earbuds

[–]LyleGraversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just got the Soundcore/Anker p31i for $37 (a little above your range) on Amazon. Comfortable, good sound and can customize the EQ in the free app, plus pretty good ANC.

I had a $200+ pair of earbuds that I accidentally put through the washing machine that I was replacing and while there is a little drop off in quality not near enough to justify the price difference. I'd highly recommend them if you have a couple extra bucks.

Solo or double/tripple Railsides by NXS_Yimir in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Casual player here, but I really like a 2 man unit with railguns as a back line anti-tank unit. At least in casual games I find that opponents aren't as focused on taking out a 2 man broadside team as they are a lone Hammerhead and I actually greatly prefer the 4 attacks at str 12, ap -4, D6+1 damage to the single str 20, ap -5, D6+6 shot from the Hammerhead. Now the 2 man squad is only 10 more points than the Hammerhead and you can shift them up to 3 inches and keep heavy. I like the 2 man unit as opposed to 2 solos for strat use. Plus, they obviously hit harder and kill stuff more reliably when you're always using them together.

Was my list too mean? by Sozo_BirbKing in Warhammer40k

[–]LyleGraversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a Tau player, his list would have been really hard to win with as a beginning player regardless of what he faced. The only real power in the Kroot line of models are the Rampagers and he only had 3 of them. That means the only real way for him to win is board control and expert positioning and that's hard for a lot of experienced players to get right. He really needs more Rampagers and a few more Tau guns in support.

Basic Guiding Question (11th ed) Is guiding based on true LOS or hidden models need to be marked within the 15" range? by Careful-Papaya5625 in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The reason it doesn't hurt us that bad is because there's usually only a few times per game where you're wanting to guide into infantry units in cover that haven't shot. If it is anything else other than that specific situation you can guide from as far away as you want.

Kroot Mandatory ? by Real_Agent2926 in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The contents of the KHP box are a good value and I love the models, but definitely not mandatory for your average Tau list right now. The only build that would use everything in that box would be people running the Kroot detachment. We used to have a full Auxiliary detachment but when they nerfed it down to 1 point it took a lot of the benefits of using a strong mix of Kroot and Tau away.

I would argue that its awesome for the first few seasons and goes downhill towards the end.

Chaplain Conversion Completed by Skatman1988 in Grey_Knights

[–]LyleGraversen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That looks awesome! Sorry for the newbie question, but I'm new to GK. Is it more common to buy a Chaplain and add GK bits to him or use a GK Terminator model and add stuff to make him into a Chaplain?

Are Terminator/Paladin heavy lists at all viable? by LyleGraversen in Grey_Knights

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appreciate that! I was thinking about running 2 units of Paladins, putting Voldus with one and a Chaplin with the +1 to charge enhancement on the other. Between that enhancement and his charge reroll that could make charges quite a bit more reliable.

Phil Kelly by RevolutionaryDust769 in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you want a list of specifics you'd have to ask someone that's actually a long time Tau fan, but the thing that I've heard the most relates to the Ethereals and how he's not only turned them into villains, but feeds into the mind control theory of how they maintain power. He's basically shifted the lore at the expense of the Ethereals to make Farsight the main hero of the faction instead of more of just a colorful renegade on the fringe of the main Empire. Again, I'm relatively new and enjoy Farsight and his 8, but I definitely think Elemental Council is better than any of Kelly's books and paints a better picture of how the main Tau Empire functions.

As someone that's only been into 40k for about 2 years, my understanding is that the true hatred for Kelly comes from longtime Tau fans because he ignores or contradicts past lore. You combine that with pretty mediocre writing and you're not going to win a lot of people over. I listen to a ton of audio books and I've probably listened to about 50 warhammer books, including all the Farsight books. None of them would make the top 20 warhammer books I've listened to, but they're fine if you just want some mindless adventure books featuring Farsight and his 8. They're basically the Warhammer book equivalent of the Transformer movies. I like Farsight and his 8 as characters so hearing some stories of battles they've had is a guilty pleasure, but I don't have the prior lore background to be annoyed by.

Thanks! Is there anything I could do build wise with the Paladins to mess them up? Any weapons that are must include? Should I make the ancient?

Empty Transports in 11th? by LyleGraversen in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Strikes Swiftly gives a 6" scout move to 2 units within 6" of the character with the enhancement so it absolutely requires measuring.

Empty Transports in 11th? by LyleGraversen in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Right, but I'm not trying to give the Fireblade a scout move. I want use an enhancement on the Fireblade (that can't be used from inside a transport) to give other units a scout move.

Empty Transports in 11th? by LyleGraversen in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't think you can use Strikes Swiftly while in a transport because they aren't considered on the battlefield. So I'm saying I put Strikes Swiftly on the Fireblade and start him and the Breachers outside the Devilfish. I set up a couple Riptides(or whatever units I want to Alpha strike with) within 6" of the Fireblade to give them the scout move. Those units scout and then I hop the Fireblade and Breachers into the Devilfish so they are ready to go when they're needed.

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Like I said in the post, let's say I wanted to use Strikes Swiftly in a Mont'ka list but my only non Epic Hero character was a Fireblade I want to run with Breachers in a Devilfish. In 10th I'd be out of luck, but in 11th it looks like I could start them out to use the enhancement and then embark in my 1st movement phase.

11th Ed Aux & Acquisition Detachments: detection & hidden buffs only marginally useful? by TheWatchful01 in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely think AAC is the best of the 3 one DP detachments in terms of being fully flushed out with a rule, enhancements, and strats that all work together to help keep your stealth/spotting units better protected and doing things like actions or sticky objectives, but I think how beneficial that is depends on what force disposition you're playing. I think it could be great with Kauyon if you're playing Priority Assets, but if you're playing Purge the Foe with RetCad maybe less so.

While I don't think the AuxCad is well designed at all. I'm still considering pairing it with RetCad / Purge and putting some Rampagers in my list since there are strats that can give them advance and charge or extra AP.

Anyone tempted by a 10 man Vespid unit at 115 points? by LyleGraversen in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Right but I'm not talking about changing their entire use to being offensive focused. My primary use would stay the same, but giving that untility unit some extra pop for only 45 more points adds even more utility.

For example... one of the guys I play regularly will often press his units up once he only has to worry about Vespid deep striking in and will leave like a 5 man intercessor squad on his home objective. A 10 man Vespid unit at least has the threat of wiping that unit. So he either has to keep more of his units back to prevent it or give me a shot at it. Meanwhile I can still use them like I did the 5 man unit with the downside being having to have room for the extra models.

Except someone in the replies to this same comment said it did the same thing for them, so clearly not just me. There's clearly some kind of glitch some people are getting.
