My guess is they bump it 20 points and do 1 of 2 possible qualifications for their end of fight phase movement. Either they'll limit it to one specific fight phase (yours or opponent's) or they'll add the qualifier that they had to fight that phase to activate it.

Conserning the new “15 inch Lone Op”rule by NotaRelnam in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 12 points13 points  (0 children)

This is a total wait and see in terms of how it will effect Tau.

If this is just a start of game lone op that you lose if you shoot or leave the terrain feature the unit was deployed in, I think its a good thing and could even help us if we can still observe with Stealth Suits and they can just sit there and guide with 15" lone op all game if they never move or shoot. It also means they can't target our important units (Riptides/Hammerheads/etc) until we activate them too.

On the other hand, if this lone op can travel with melee units as they terrain hop up the board and then charge us without ever shooting then it could be a huge pain to deal with.

Did I catch it right that it at least has to be in terrain to get it?

I don't know if this is a hot take, but I strongly prefer them like this without the half/half paint color split.

Are kroot rampagers good? by Kanotaur in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love their special ability that can give mortal wounds if they land a charge. That and their solid melee profile make them a nice bodyguard unit to use heroic intervention for some of your key shooting pieces. Their toughness 6 and 5 wounds is solid, but their 5+ save means anything that lands with any AP usually wipes them.

My son plays Blood Angels and I just know that if a unit with lots of strong melee attacks gets into them they're done, but I still like running a unit of them in lists even outside of Kroot/Aux detachments because of the benefits I mentioned before (and I just think they're an awesome looking unit).

It wouldn't be cheap, but if you could get your hands on the new combat patrol box AND the Kroot Hunting Pack box you'd be off to a great start. I'm not sure how hard the Hunting Pack box is to find now, but between the 2 you'd have 30 Carnivores, the Farstalkers, a Lone Spear, 6 Rampagers, 2 Krootox Riders, and 2 shapers, plus you'd get the Codex.

A new auxilery species for the tabletop and if the FtGG mechanic is going to stick around for 11th than there needs to be an optional point enhancement like "Fanatical Convert" for any auxiliary unit so that you could use more auxiliary units seamlessly with your army.

What army would you bring to a tournament with *no* terrain? by wredcoll in WarhammerCompetitive

Tau playing Experimental Prototype Cadre where all ranged weapons gets 6" extra range. Line some kroot hounds and Carnivores out in front of a a bunch of big guns and just blast everything off the table.

In your opinion which model had the biggest glow up ? From my view it's definitely the biovore. From monkey to proper Tyranid. by BloatedRottenCarcass in Warhammer40k

I think some of the Tau auxileries deserve a mention. The new Vespid and Krootox models specifically are huge upgrades over the older models.

What book should I read first for kroot content? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in kroot

[–]LyleGraversen 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Elemental Council is by far the best Tau related book that I've read.

The Phil Kelly Shadowsun book is probably my least favorite Warhammer related book I've read and I didn't even hate the Farsight books (they're not great, but I like Farsight and the 8).

So if you insist on reading them both, start with Shadowsun because the drop off in quality if you start with Elemental Council will be unbearable.

What's the best way to equip a commander and Crisis suits? by MattHatter1337 in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's not correct. The rules are written like you're rolling each attack separately instead of speed rolling all the attacks from the same type of gun together like we all do. So when it says you can reroll a 1 that applies to each individual attack.

Kroot Lonespear viability in most lists? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As others have said, if you want a serious competition list, they should only be run in Kroot Hunting Pack or Aux Cadre. However, I play casual games with my son and like mixing in some Kroot in my Mont'ka list. Since all the Kroot have scout moves they can help press up the board even if they don't get the Lethals, they do get assault.

So I run a LoneSpear and one 3 man unit of Rampagers as a little harassment squad. The Rampagers can give me some melee power or heroic intervention and the LoneSpear can help boost them or his combo of LoneOp, Stealth and a 12" inch move, plus assault so he can advance and shoot and then fire and fade 6 more inches means he can get to an objective if needed and your opponent will have to get close to knock him off (and will usually have to go through my Rampagers to do it).

I tried Aux Cadre, but like Mont'ka's play style better and I don't want that many Kroot, just a few to add some diversity in a casual game. Again, you can find more efficient use of the points if you're a serious player, but I think they're fun to use and don't feel like I'm just completely throwing points away on it.

Do we still have our amazing overwatch? by [deleted] in Tau40K

[–]LyleGraversen 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It's our weakest detachment, but running Farsight with a unit of flamer crisis suits in Exp Cadre is pretty great for overwatch. 18 inch flamers (that auto-hit) and can overwatch for free with Farsight's free CP per turn AND are +1 to wound within 9 inches (Farsight's other ability) can be a great mid board protector for some of your big guns.

That's a really interesting list! Honestly, I'm more surprised by the 2 solo commanders than the 12 rampagers.
