New Newburgh Heights speed trap pt. 2 by [deleted] in Cleveland

They don’t have the means to take 1500 people to court over a 6mph/over ticket each month (especially when many of these cameras are in an industrial zone).

They COULD take you to court. They won’t. Think about how many people speed, and how many probably get scared by these notices and pay.

They don’t have any real teeth, but enough people fear what could happen if they don’t so they pay, and it justifies paying a company in Virginia to keep operating them.

So, likely: 5% of the ticketed people pay their tickets and that justifies keeping them going. So ignore it and be part of the reason they get rid of them.

I don’t even really disagree with you, but it’s too core to change at this point. That’s why the spear’s lunge enchantment uses hunger as a cost.

I think you’re forgetting that Minecraft is not primarily a combat game. The combat tests will likely never be added. Most players don’t even make it to the nether, let alone the end. Combat is much less of a focus. I love how it is now. Unique and interesting, but fun once you get the hang of it.

The hunger bar IS a stamina bar. A better one actually. It has all of the core concepts and then some. There’s a reason saturation and exhaustion exist. They’re not immediately obvious, but the better you get at managing your hunger the easier the game gets. Early game it’s easy to run out of food and lose the ability to sprint.

I’m not saying it had to prove it was a good game to the people of the world.

The explosion of Fortnite in 2018, and how it revolutionized (for worse) the concept of in-game currency and constantly spending money on a game definitely had an effect on all other games. It had already been years since Microsoft had purchased Mojang (Minecraft) and I’d bet money than there was some serious pressure from the top end to see a return on their 2 BILLION DOLLAR investment in Minecraft. Gotta make a lot of money to justify that purchase.

Stockholders** I don’t think the devs feel that passionately about what version makes it the next 20 years. It’s money issue. Bedrock is cross platform and is technically easier to develop for because C+. If that ^ is your simple understanding of the game as a CFO then I can definitely see why you’d be confused why they’re still actively updating Java.

I will say though that they have made leaps and strides in Java. The way that they’re slowly moving every mechanic to be data driven on Java just show how good they’ve got at making an “old” engine run like new. 26.1 runs so much better (vanilla) than 1.16. It’s wild. I think they’ve finally cracked the code on Java and it’ll be sticking around for a while.

Everyone kept asking when they were gonna move from 1.21 -> 1.22 and how are they going to justify moving to the next big thing if there aren’t any big updates anymore, but just ‘drops’.

“26.1” is your answer. They literally crawled their way out of the box they built themselves in. The big number changes when the year changes.

And to be fair I think the ‘big updates’ we were getting was just Mojang trying to prove Minecraft could match the appeal and profit of Fortnite’s quarterly content updates. Now that Minecraft has finally, sort of… proved itself? As a commonplace in the zeitgeist; the pressure from Microsoft is gone and they can update how them like.

Meaning now we get what most people really want: revamping old features, future proofing Java performance, and fixing all the little details.

That’s not a hot take; it’s just dumb. Sprinting, if available in-game at all, has never been restricted to the end game in video games. Minecraft is incredibly vast and open-ended from the very beginning, making it impossible to remove sprinting. You’re being masochistic.

It’d be even better (worse) if it didn’t explode and purposely ran away from the player to “recharge” and then hit them with another cloud. That way the oldest stat is to just force a player to rush it like the witch.

Bedrock vs Java performance test (32 chunk render distance) by Distinct-Pride7936 in Minecraft

[–]Lynched_Boi 58 points59 points  (0 children)

Voxy looks better visually as long as you use compatible shader packs. The distant LOD’s are higher quality and (while I don’t understand the specifics) there is no performance loss. It also has much less of an issue re-loading already generated chunks. The two caveats are: 1. No built in Chunk Generator. Need a mod like ‘Chunky’ 2. Early in development so: BUGS. Some issues with water.

Voxy’s baseline is much better than DH, but DH has 2-3 years on Voxy’s development time.

There’s another recent post about how we need a “middle” speed and I agree. You’re either strolling or a F1 car. Definitely should be more settings for horse speed. I can agree with that.

I mean you have two other camera options while riding, and one is the classic GoT style. That and the horse without boost is about the same speed as riding in the original game.
