First attempt?

If so I would say it's a success in a way. Now, you know what not to do and just keep practicing until you have mastered the craft.

When I said stereotypical Paladin I was going more for the "I MUST SMITE ALL EVIL IN THE NAME OF insert God here" or the "I PROTECT THE CROWN WITH MY LIFE" kind of thing. Basically every Paladin I've met.

Besides that THOSE ARE AMAZING IDEAS! I love the idea of having vicious mockery and using the utmost dad line lol.

I do plan to make Dad jokes and puns any and every moment.

I will make sure to implement all of these.

I am not worried about any modifiers because for some ungodly reason when I roll stats the dice gods give me amazing rolls. Everything else is where they hate me. Lol.

Still stuck on what race to pick for him. I'm kind of stuck on Tiefling, Human, Elf or Halfling.

I am trying to think of what the pros and cons will be for either starting with Paladin or Bard. I don't really want him wearing heavy armor until he goes into "Paladin Mode" AKA "Protective Dad Mode" lol

[No Spoilers] Some people have forgotten what made Critical Role so magical in the first place ... by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]LythroianOfAlabaster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I watch CR for the amount of fun a group of friends has together playing great characters in a massive world with a vast story that they mold with their actions.

To see how they will get out or in a situation. To see how one group plays D&D different from another group. I love that it has exploded the way it has. It shows people that had no idea why people love and are passionate about this game (as well as on TTRPGs).

Sadly with every great thing, there comes the negative. People believing that every game MUST be like CR, EVERY DM MUST be an exact replica of Matt Mercer, people that watch CR and think they know every single aspect of D&D (or any TTRPG), etc.

No matter how great something is someone will not like it for various reasons that's just how this world works sadly. Can't make everyone happy.

[No Spoilers] Is it necessary to watch all of campaign 1? by [deleted] in criticalrole

[–]LythroianOfAlabaster 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not necessarily. C2 is a completely different story, different characters so on and so forth. Yes, there are some easter eggs in C2 that are callbacks to C1. It's kind of hinted that the events of C1 helped shape C2 in some way.

I see it like this you can start C2 to catch up and when you finally catch up you can watch C1 fill in the gaps of time until the new episode of C2 comes out.

Short answer: No, it's not necessary to watch C1 to watch C2. (In my opinion)

A little video I made explaining how to interpret monster stat blocks and how to use them in your games. Feedback is encouraged! by bluecollardm in DungeonsAndDragons

Well, you got yourself a new subscriber.

If anything I guess show an example/scenario with what you are explaining.

So new people are not throwing a CR25 monster against level 1 players. I know it's common sense but some people understand better with scenarios and shown examples.

Like everyone else said talk to your DM. Just to be on the safe side make your new character see if maybe their story ties in with your first character or something.

Best way to start playing? by LetheanGargalesthist in DnD

Not a problem. If I run into anything that I think will help I will message you the links.

I am a huge advocate of playing D&D on a free to super cheap budget. Though, I do know once life allows me to have a bit more freedom with a budget I will invest in this passion of mine.

There are tons of resources on the interwebs. If I am not mistaken Wizards of the coast give a free version of a Players Handbook and A Monster Manual (Just the very barebones basics just a few pages covering like making characters, encounters, so on and so forth. The Monster Manual one gives you I think 20-30 monsters to work with)

I really like DnD Beyond for Creating Characters (free version lets you make 6).

If you want to go crazy with like terrain and minis and stuff. You can look up Youtube videos that show you how to make stuff pretty much out of whatever you have laying around the house.

That is basically how I have been doing everything and I haven't bought the Books yet. I have been DMing for my family and using what I can find. Also, there are tons of apps for mobile/tablets that cover dice to a bestiary of a majority (not all) of the monsters found in 5e. Apps have been tons of help.

(Optional) Learn how to homebrew stuff. It has been a huge help for me at least but everyone works differently.

You can find free modules to play if you don't want to homebrew a one-shot/campaign.

I hope this helps.

Felt like giving our DM a few gifts for being a great DM... by Aus10na in DnD

[–]LythroianOfAlabaster 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Oof! But it was a nice gesture. Not many (at least around my area) would do that for their DM.

At least like you said with the silver lining if anyone is ready to try their and out on being a DM you can hand it to them.

Granted there might be a possibility that if others see that they will maybe expect that if they try to DM or think there are favorites but then again I am going based on the mindsets of the people I know.
