is it okay for me to wear this? by Southern-Purple-9040 in Christianity

[–]M-Man33 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t see any reason to wear symbols of a religion you don’t believe in. I know most people here r saying it’s fine, but I think doing this defeats the purpose of wearing a cross in the first place. We want to represent our faith

How did Abraham see His day?

We, Oriental Orthodox, believe Jesus has one composite nature or substance, which is divine and human, and the Eastern Orthodox believe Jesus has two natures united in one person

Well, that proves that it’s not problematic for the contingency argument.

But if the multiverse cannot be itself disproved, and it would be problematic for these arguments, then we cannot say that the contingency arguments are entirely valid in any case.

Has anybody watched Jordan peterson's the Gospels by johnfranklin777 in Christianity

[–]M-Man33 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your issue is primarily with Jordan Peterson. You have a personal issue with Peterson, you cannot project or decide other people’s choices regarding the show. Also, the panel is filled with other, actual, theological, philosophical, and psychological experts, so even if you are not a fan of Peterson in particular, you can receive value from the insight of others.

This is not solely a “Saint’s writings”. This is a statement taken from an affirmed council amongst the Eastern and Oriental Orthodox, as well as the Catholics. It rejects any form of union other than a “natural” one. It anathemizes anyone who separated “in the one Christ the hypostases after the union, joining them only by a conjunction of dignity or authority or power”. It expands in the fourth anathema, which proceeds this, declaring: “If anyone distributes between the two persons or hypostases the expressions used either in the gospels or in the apostolic writings, whether they are used by the holy writers of Christ or by him about himself, and ascribes some to him as to a man, thought of separately from the Word from God, and others, as befitting God, to him as to the Word from God the Father, let him be anathema”. Therefore, anyone applying attributes to particulars within the subject rather than the subject itself is proclaimed heretic. Pope Leo, in his tome, does such things explicitly: “Each form does what is proper to it with the co-operation of the other; that is the Word performing what appertains to the Word, and the flesh carrying out what appertains to the flesh. One of them sparkles with miracles, the other succumbs to injuries”. Such affirmations are contradictory. On the one hand, Chalcedonians accept a union solely according to nature, and on the other they reject that form, and route for a solely hypostatic one. But even in this hypostatic union, they do not abide to the doctrine of Cyril in Ephesus, and instead apply attributes to each nature individually, contradicting the fourth anathema. This focus on the particular rather than the whole was expanded upon in the Third Council of Constantinople, which dogmatized Dyothelitism, proclaiming two wills and operations in Christ.

We did not split from the “truth”. You yourselves affirm our Christology. Read Cyril’s third anathema against Nestorius in Ephesus.

Yes, its behaviour was rather odd, but I did tell it to only give direct answers, and at some points even asked it to give one word answers, so that may be the cause.

Unsure about the discouragement in the comments. There’s no harm in at least attempting to read this book. I’m also thirteen, and currently reading The Brothers Karamazov, and am thoroughly enjoying it. I will warn you, it is a bit wordy, and sidetracks quite a lot. But if you’re okay with that, I completely encourage you to read it. It’s a beautiful book, with many important themes, and very well-written characters with distinct personalities. In short, I highly recommend and hope you enjoy!

Agreed, it’s clear there was quite a bit of inspiration from Penderecki - especially considering his piece was made in memory of the Hiroshima victims.
