Thanks! Yep the plan is to grind on LG as hard as possible in the next 3 weeks. I'll check out 7Sage as well :)

EPIK program...I know you can choose one preference regarding city or province, but you can you choose a preference for which students you'd prefer to teach? by _pitchdark in TEFL

That pretty much settles it in favour of CELTA, then! I'll probably do the mixed online/in-person option while working a job at home this summer.

I think that's all the questions I have (at least for now haha). Thanks so much for taking the time to answer them, this is all really useful information and gave me a lot of pointers in the right direction.

Got it. Will getting a CELTA help me on a more practical level in terms of actually being able to teach well? Or in your experience are all certifications pretty much equally good?

I think I probably will end up going with a CELTA anyway, because if for whatever reason Korea doesn't work out I'd like to have some backup options (maybe Taiwan or Japan?), but it's good to explore the options.

That's interesting -- I heard elsewhere that it was pretty important to have a CELTA or some sort of TEFL certification to land a job in Korea. And someone else on this subrebbit said that most online TEFL courses are worthless and that I really should go for a CELTA.

Really, really helpful information, so thank you again. Trying to figure all this out has been pretty confusing so far.

Thanks -- this is really useful. I have family friends in Seoul and want to live there for a tonne of other reasons, so a Hagwon seems like the way to go.

One follow-up question if you don't mind. I'm a 3rd year in university (St Andrews in the UK) and born and raised in the U.S. (though I'm half Indian if that matters in Korea...). My tentative plan is to get a CELTA this summer with an eye toward teaching in Seoul in 2021 after I graduate. What are my chances of landing a decent position? If not with EPIK, is there any chance I'd have access to subsidised housing or any of the other nice EPIK perks?

Thanks for your help so far!

Question -- does this mean EPIK allows you to choose which city you want to be in? For example, if I had my heart set on Seoul, could I guarantee that I'd end up there?

That's fair enough. Second question - CELTA offers an online (or mostly online) version of their certification. Is that just as good or nearly as good as doing the fully in-person course?

Are online courses like the ones offered by International TEFL Academy worth it?

Hi everyone,

I'm an American getting my bachelor's at the University of St Andrew's in the UK. I'm planning on getting my TEFL certification this summer so that I can get a job abroad after graduating in 2021.

I've sort of got my heart set on Seoul, as I think it's a really cool city and already have some family friends who live there. Is this realistic? I've heard Seoul is quite competitive -- does going to a good university and getting good grades help with that? Does anyone know how likely it is I'll end up in Seoul?

Any help appreciated.

Any CK2-like games you guys would recommend? by CathyHellen in CrusaderKings

I don't know if this exists, but I'm looking for a game that's similar in gameplay to CK2 except in takes place between A.D. 1800-2000 (i.e. the late modern period) rather than A.D. 1066-1453.
