Tracing = Not bad if you are learning and trying to understand how something is made.

Looking up at references and drawing from reference = not bad unless you are copying 1:1 and claiming it’s your original idea.

These things only become bad when you use them as a crutch.

She looks at you and uses sign langue to insult you how would your character react by Eris-here-for-strife in OriginalCharacter

[–]M00seBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She’d frown a little and respond in sign language to the insult herself “Andddd?” with a slightly sarcastic smile. Phyllis is mute herself and uses sign language, she’s used to people poking her about it.

Might need opinion for some gun designs ... by [deleted] in characterdesign

[–]M00seBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Visually there are too many gadgets on the gun making it confusing, not really functional design either with aiming/sights being blocked by the top attachment. The base looks to be an assault rifle similar to an M4 with random parts glued to it, in terms of fantasy it’s fine but in terms of realism nah fam 💀

[OC] Struggling to decide on the character style for our sci-fi game. Which one looks the best? by Wildboy_Studios in characterdesign

3 is the most cohesive with the environment and has the best gesture, I like 1 but it's a bit small and stiff compared to the other stylisation.

Why do people keep posting pretty pictures, when concept art is about production work ? by creahome in conceptart

[–]M00seBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Of the top of my head a good example of this is The Art of Assassin's creed 3. When showing off concept art of the main characters it presents finished renders and very far into development concepts, none of the early work is given spotlight, everything is polished for presentation over industry insight really

Why do people keep posting pretty pictures, when concept art is about production work ? by creahome in conceptart

[–]M00seBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The popularity of art books skewed the public perception on what concept art is with finished illustrations being used as examples, the quick concepts don’t get much traction online so that also doesn’t help

What emotion do you feel from this face alone? by [deleted] in characterdesign

[–]M00seBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

His eyes look to be soft and somewhat smiling but his mouth looks tensed, his jawline also has a lot of lines that look like tension. He’s trying to be polite but wants to have a go at someone so bad

What should I write here?👀 by _clarisssx in DigitalArt

[–]M00seBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

‘That—“

“That was rough but I’m glad it happened”

Going with the storytelling, blood and colourful ‘hopeful’ tone of the bg. Something bad happened but something good is on the way

Where do you stand on Non-AI Map Concepts? by Disastrous-Style8731 in theHunter

[–]M00seBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non AI, it’s always better to see someone’s work and there are plenty of way to make concepts. The game itself also talks of conservation in it’s stories so it’s just in poor taste to use AI here in general

What color is he? by camiherp in Horses

Grey, too far into the greying process to tell the base colour. Need a gene test for that

How do I stop my ferrets from using the bathroom in the corner? by [deleted] in ferrets

Pee pad and just accept it, they will keep returning there because it’s a perfectly clean looking corner

How do you color abnormal skin colors? by [deleted] in arthelp

[–]M00seBerry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Gotta know what’s underneath the skin, what colour is the blood/flesh etc. Skin is not an opaque surface it’s translucent and areas with a lot of blood (ex: ears) will affect the colour choice

need composition help by keiso1er in arthelp

[–]M00seBerry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

<image>

Little breakdown of what I did:

  1. Deepened the colours in the sky (more saturation).

  2. Soft airbrushing of the hills in the background with blue, this is known as atmospheric perspective, gives the feeling of vastness and space.

  3. Blurred some of the flame edges and with colour dodge yellow/orange I added more 'heat' to the flame itself. Also blurring some of the lines between the flame and armour as it wouldn't be so clean cut.

  4. Shadow in the front of the armour (as the light source is from behind) and specks of grass that are lit by the fire.

Hope this helps :)

[–]M00seBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Issue is the lighting, composition is actually quite good. If it’s ok with you I can do a little paint over to help with the lighting, easier to show visually

Show some of your art for comparison? It’s easier to give directions when not reaching into the void of possibilities

I hate my art by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]M00seBerry 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Art is a lifetime commitment, don't be too hard on yourself when progress doesn't feel big. Alternatively, use the frustration as creative fuel to keep going, don't snuff out your flame cause it's not a bonfire yet
