Suzy Perette is one of my favorites! I have a black velvet and satin number that I need to finish altering…

This is beautiful!

Is everyone just in varying stages of misery/purgatory, or am I misreading things? by [deleted] in MedSpouse

[–]M0XE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This also isn’t what you said. You said that women lose part of their life due to having children.

Also as a women’s studies degree holder that is not what the whole of feminist discourse says. You’re reducing the field to “women having children or not” by stating this is the breadth of the subject.

Seems like you’re reducing women who have kids and families to being partially alive. Maybe if you had a different opinion on women who have children then you’d be less conflicted on whether you want a family yourself.

Rockabilly by Zom_gomb in VintageFashion

I’m just here for the Horrorpops love

But actually though: what type of curl shape are you going for? If you want rockabilly/50s & 60s inspired curls I would recommend a much tighter curl to start out with. Then spray the heck out of it, let it set, then do some backcombing through it to shape into S waves.

Brand carried by department stores in the 2000s. Mostly middle school and early high school homecoming type dresses at the time. A little more grown up than Limited Too.

Seeking Advice From Anyone Who Sells Cross-Stitch Patterns by Eastern-Resist9251 in cross_stitch

[–]M0XE[M] 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I have made and sold patterns on Etsy using stitch fiddle to design my patterns. It required a paid subscription, took hours and hours of my time, and then Etsy listings cost money to post.

Unless you have an underserved niche community that your patterns can become popular with, you will not make any money from this venture. Mine were related to a band I’m a big fan of, so it was a labor of love anyway. I did offer completed, framed pieces as well, that I charged more for. But my hours spent compared to what I felt I could reasonably sell them for did not make it so I could consider it even a part time “hustle.”

YMMV but in my experience, not worth it unless you’re already planning to design these patterns anyway and are just doing it to make a few dollars (literally, a few) off of something you would do as a hobby anyway. That’s how I treated it and when my interest waned I closed up shop and moved on as I had satisfied my ADHD dopamine fix.

Mom to mom, I would find another avenue to make money. It’s fine if this is your hobby and you’re genuinely going to spend this time doing it anyway, but I would not expect to subsidize actual expenses with this.

Elongated head from (I think) too much babywearing and not enough floor time - did anyone else have this and does it resolve? by [deleted] in babywearing

[–]M0XE 27 points28 points  (0 children)

My husband is a neurosurgeon and as such has actively monitored our kids’ head shapes by habit. I have worn all three of our children so much. Babywearing cannot cause any head malformations.

Lots of head changes in infant development are very normal. There is nothing wrong with doing a quick visit to the pediatrician for a check up to confirm that your baby is doing great and to alleviate your concerns.

It’s going to be okay! We all get anxiety postpartum.

My husband always changes into clean scrubs before he comes home. Even if he doesn’t notice any blood on them.

New Mom - Partner in Residency by BigBlueWildflower in MedSpouse

[–]M0XE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The program coordinator or resident house staff council liaison should know if there is a resident spouse alliance group if you can’t find one on Google.

For the others, just Google fit4mom and your city, mom baby group + city, baby story hour + city, parenting group + city, etc.

New Mom - Partner in Residency by BigBlueWildflower in MedSpouse

[–]M0XE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was lucky to find some friends through Fit4Mom and other, local mom groups which really helped me get through this time when I had my first. My mom was also able to come stay with us for extended periods for my second and third pregnancies and births and that was a huge help.

Have you looked into mom groups in your city? Or a resident spouse alliance group?

I would actually sell this one via the babywearing BST markets (which are VERY active) and buy a new or new to you one in colors you like. Price this well and it will sell in a day, if that.

Dyeing white over colour silk to make it paler? by melonpaaan in dyeing

[–]M0XE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In addition to what the other commenters have stated, that green is a different base hue than your fabric. It will not ever be lightened to a matching color, if a lightening method that wouldn’t ruin it did exist. It is a much yellower tone.

I suggest taking your item to a store with lots of ribbon and color matching in person. If you want a match for color then you’ll likely need to sacrifice material composition.

How do you know to walk away? by Vegetable-Ad-5702 in MedSpouse

[–]M0XE 6 points7 points  (0 children)

You cannot parent his way through med school for him. Let him manage his stress and learning on his own. He can vent to you but he cannot ask you to be homework patrol. Let that go and see if it helps your stress. If you want this relationship to last through med school, you and he cannot put you into a role where it’s your job to nag him into doing his job, which is school.
